Speedy deletion of Assist America[edit]

A tag has been placed on Assist America, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Any article about a corporation which spends most of its time discussing the services of that company and how they may acquired would be considered advertising. In any case, a company with an article on Wikipedia is required to meet WP:CORP standards of notability, which the article did not (and thus could have been deleted instead for failing to assert notability; see WP:CSD). You are correct that there are hundreds of Wikipedia articles which do not meet these standards which are not deleted immediately; this is because they slip through the cracks upon creation, and, if they are obscure topics, are rarely turned up by editors searching for problematic articles. The article you linked to I have tagged as advertising to allow a second pair of admin eyes to look at to consider if it would fall under our deletion standards, as someone had done with your article. Flagging of International SOS for advertising[edit]

Particularly given the deletion of your Assist America entry as spam, your tagging of that company's competitor International SOS as advertising requires some further explanation on your part. The International SOS entry has been through several rounds of editing and satisfied checks for NPOV, notability, etc. Please either correct any shortcomings in the article yourself, or outline your specific concerns in the discussion page so that others can address them. FYI conflict of interest guideline[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Assist America, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Tagging Assist America for speedy deletion again[edit]

A tag has been placed on Assist America, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Assist America and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

I've tagged this page for speedy deletion. Please note that it was speedily deleted once before for advertising under criterion G11. I've used the same criterion on this tag because:

(1) No notability is asserted or implied. The mere existence of a company does not assert sufficient notability to warrant an article about it. See WP:N and WP:CORP.
(2) This article serves solely to promote the company. See WP:ADVERT.
(3) The article thus has no apparent encyclopedic value. See WP:NOT.
(4) These comments and my Speedy tag are informed by the observation that the author, User:gb80 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), appears to be a single purpose account who, save for a minor and unrelated edit, exists to forward the business of Assist America and International SOS.

I'd be happy to discuss this with you; if that's to your liking, please leave a note below and I'll see it. Regards, Jim Ward (talk·stalk) 05:35, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
