If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). Article

[edit]

Hi, Geoffmalc! I saw your question at the Articles for Creation help desk and thought I'd come here to discuss.

The basic problem is proving that you are what Wikipedia calls "notable." It doesn't mean important; it means you've been covered at significant length in several reliable sources. Generally, reliable sources are major newspapers outside your own local area, national magazines, books, etc. At significant length means more than just a brief mention or a quote by you; we'd want to see entire articles that are about you or that cover you at length. You also can prove notability by being given some signal honor that is only given to a very small handful of people.

From your question at the help desk, I think that perhaps the people who are advising you to do this don't understand Wikipedia's purpose. Wikipedia is not a repository of family history. It's an encyclopedia. You could write this history up for your family, which I think is a fabulous idea, and I wish my grandparents and great-grandparents had done something like that. But Wikipedia doesn't publish these documents. Facebook and LinkedIn would be the place for those.

I'm happy to answer any questions.
