Conflict of interest

Hello, George.tenety. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

• Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
• Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
• Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
• Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edit to Bayonne, New Jersey, as we really appreciate your participation. However, the edit had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept unsourced material or original research. This includes material lacking cited sources, or obtained through personal knowledge or unpublished synthesis of previously published material. Wikipedia requires that all material added to articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here.

Also, please understand that Wikipedia, is an encyclopedia, and not a platform for people to advertise their businesses. Please see WP:NOTADVERT for more on this.

Hi, George. I'd happy to answer your questions.

First, when you start a new section on a talk page, make sure you place it at the bottom of the talk page, and not at the top or in the middle. (Similarly, when leaving a new message in an already-ongoing discussion, leave the message at the bottom of that section). In leaving your message on my talk page, it appear you also removed lots of material that was already on it; I assume this was an error on your part, so don't worry about it; I reverted it.

Make sure also that you sign your messages. You can do this by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of them, which also automatically time stamps them.

As for adding names to the Notable residents sections of city articles, just to clarify before I respond further: Are you George Tenety? Nightscream (talk) 02:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
