Did you know?

Did you know that you can use the visual editor on a mobile device?

Every article has a pencil icon at the top. Tap on the pencil icon to start editing.

Edit Cards

Toolbar with menu opened

This is what the new Edit Cards for editing links in the mobile visual editor look like. You can try the prototype here: 📲 Try Edit Cards.

Welcome back to the Editing newsletter.

Since the last newsletter, the team has released two new features for the mobile visual editor and has started developing three more. All of this work is part of the team's goal to make editing on mobile web simpler.

Before talking about the team's recent releases, we have a question for you:

Are you willing to try a new way to add and change links?

If you are interested, we would value your input! You can try this new link tool in the mobile visual editor on a separate wiki.

Follow these instructions and share your experience:

📲 Try Edit Cards.

Recent releases

The mobile visual editor is a simpler editing tool, for smartphones and tablets using the mobile site. The Editing team has recently launched two new features to improve the mobile visual editor:

  1. Section editing
    • The purpose is to help contributors focus on their edits.
    • The team studied this with an A/B test. This test showed that contributors who could use section editing were 1% more likely to publish the edits they started than people with only full-page editing.
  2. Loading overlay
    • The purpose is to smooth the transition between reading and editing.

Section editing and the new loading overlay are now available to everyone using the mobile visual editor.

New and active projects

This is a list of our most active projects. Watch these pages to learn about project updates and to share your input on new designs, prototypes and research findings.

  • Edit cards: This is a clearer way to add and edit links, citations, images, templates, etc. in articles. You can try this feature now. Go here to see how: 📲Try Edit Cards.
  • Mobile toolbar refresh: This project will learn if contributors are more successful when the editing tools are easier to recognize.
  • Mobile visual editor availability: This A/B test asks: Are newer contributors more successful if they use the mobile visual editor? We are collaborating with 20 Wikipedias to answer this question.
  • Usability improvements: This project will make the mobile visual editor easier to use.  The goal is to let contributors stay focused on editing and to feel more confident in the editing tools.

Looking ahead

  • Wikimania: Several members of the Editing Team will be attending Wikimania in August 2019. They will lead a session about mobile editing in the Community Growth space. Talk to them about how editing can be improved.
  • Talk Pages: In the coming months, the Editing Team will begin improving talk pages and communication on the wikis.

Learning more

The VisualEditor on mobile is a good place to learn more about the projects we are working on. The team wants to talk with you about anything related to editing. If you have something to say or ask, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

"Non-RS"?

Hello GermanJoe,

I'd like to know more about the reason of this revert of source. What does "Non-RS" mean, please? What is the problem with this source?

Thank you, --Daehan (talk) 14:38, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Daehan:, non-RS meant "not a reliable source". Personal websites, blogs and blog-like sites are generally not considered reliable sources (see also WP:RS for more information). Sorry for the confusion with the abbreviation, it's just easier to type in short summaries when one is making a lot of routine edits. But I'd be glad to help if you have any further questions or want to discuss this source in more detail. GermanJoe (talk) 16:28, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Thanks for making wikipedia a better place. Quick question re recent removal of AI projects I've edited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_intelligence_projects

Can you please expand on what I was required but didn't complete? your comment was: "no additions without sourced article, also WP:EL" I'm new be nice :) Cheers, Bargalon

Bargalon (talk) 07:22, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Bargalon:, and welcome to Wikipedia. Entries in such lists are usually restricted to "notable" topics (in Wikipedia's own sense of the term). A "notable" topic should have been covered by several independent reliable sources in some detail, and already have a stand-alone article on Wikipedia that is based on such independent sources. You'll find more information about the concept of Wikipedia-"notability" at WP:GNG. Also, if you are connected to the added project, please make sure to read WP:COI about editing with a possible conflict of interest.
Please let me know, if you have any further questions - I'd be glad to help (and will post a few basic links on your user talkpage). WP:Teahouse is also a good forum for new editors, if you need any Wikipedia-related advice from other editors. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 07:32, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Editing

How did you know it is incorrect some times it will be correct. If it is correct and you removed it, it will be your mistake. And only you are responsible for that. Mary Poppins111 (talk) 00:45, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Link removal

This is with respect to my edit which you removed at HTTP Live Streaming. I think rather than undoing my change you removed the entire line. The link earlier was incorrect and I was providing the most relevant link I could think of (the company's homepage). I am new, can you please provide a clarifiation or suggest on how to fix it.

Hello @Vrmaroli:, the entry had 2 issues: Wikipedia generally does not use external links in the main text of its articles (see WP:EL). Secondly, entries in Wikipedia lists are usually restricted to Wiki-"notable" topics, that is topics which already have a sourced stand-alone article on Wikipedia - that's why I removed the entire entry. Hope this helps a bit to clarify the reasoning, but please feel free to ask if you have further questions (see also the blue links for more details). Please also make sure to read WP:COI, in case you are connected to the added company and would like to suggest further changes related to it. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 12:26, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Time series database - reliable sourcing

You are right, thanks a lot! I found a better reference, please check my contribution.--Jimmy Olano (talk) 16:46, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Jimmy Olano:, thank you for looking for better, more reliable sources. I haven't read the whole source with all details, but it looks better at first glance. GermanJoe (talk) 18:57, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Hey bro!

Can you help me find sources to my wiki: Discworld & Terry Pratchett Wiki. -- 81.131.36.98 (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I couldn't find any reliable sources about this specific Wiki on a quick search. If you want to try writing an article about it, you'll need to look for at least 2-3 published reliable sources that meet the criteria at WP:GNG and WP:RS. If such sources don't exist, it won't be possible to write a Wikipedia article about this Wiki unfortunately. I don't have time to look into the topic more closely, but hope these tips and links help a bit (WP:Teahouse is also a good forum for new editors, if you get stuck and need any advice about Wikipedia editing). GermanJoe (talk) 14:59, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Hey there, I see that you've deleted the addition of dnbamerica dot com to that page (yay!). I'm confused that the spammer was able to add it, since that url was added to the blacklist some time ago. What am I missing? Cheers! —johndburger 19:10, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Argh, never mind, I see it was added after those edits, I thought it had been added long before that. Apologies for my confusion. —johndburger 20:00, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Question on fNIRS section.

Hi GermanJoe,

I see you removed my addition to the fNIRS section on the BCI page. May I ask why you removed my "vague claims" on easy of use and popularity on fNIRS, and why the exact same claims in the EEG section is not a problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DvdPutte (talkcontribs) 11:28, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello @DvdPutte:, such claims without sufficient references are always a problem. But Wikipedia is an imperfect work in progress with many flaws and areas in need of improvement (see also Wikipedia:Other stuff exists). All subjective and exceptional claims need a direct reference to an independent high-quality expert source, explicitly verifying such claims. Please feel free to improve other instances if you notice similar problems (by adding an appropriate source or rephrasing the content where needed). GermanJoe (talk) 11:50, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
Also, please clarify if you have a connection to the authors. In this case, please read WP:COI about editing with a conflict of interest. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 11:56, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Bulleted publications lists

Hi GermanJoe: I have no problem with your edit to Clyde Wahrhaftig (thanks!), but because I'm interested in details of documentation, could you point out to me where/if the preference for bullets is documented? E.g., I didn't notice anything in WP:Manual_of_Style/Lists_of_works. Thanks. Finney1234 (talk) 19:57, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Finney1234:, it is briefly mentioned at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lists#Use_an_unordered_list_by_default (and described as "the most common list type" at WP:BULLETLIST). The bullets just add another visible distinction for each list entry, and usually make lists with short texts a bit more structured and accessible. Plain lists are sometimes used in infoboxes though - and probably a few other use cases, I don't remember at the moment :). GermanJoe (talk) 20:44, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi GermanJoe: per note, I think your edit is fine, but FWIW, it is recommended that lists of publications be placed in chronological order, earliest first, so it's not an "unordered" list (WP:Manual_of_Style/Lists_of_works#Bibliographies). That said, it's not a numbered list either, so either bullets or bulletless strikes me as fine (i.e., a matter of personal esthetics not specified by the MOS). Thanks. Finney1234 (talk) 23:07, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Actually, WP:Manual_of_Style/Layout#works explictly states "Contents: A bulleted list, usually ordered chronologically, of the works created by the subject of the article.", so you are absolutely correct. (I wasn't looking for this, I just happened to come across it). Finney1234 (talk) 15:46, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
No problem. Rules or recommendations for various aspects are sometimes scattered among several sections, or even different pages. I often find it difficult to keep track of so many details at once myself. GermanJoe (talk) 15:54, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Backlog Banzai

In the month of September, Wikiproject Military history is running a project-wide edit-a-thon, Backlog Banzai. There are heaps of different areas you can work on, for which you claim points, and at the end of the month all sorts of whiz-bang awards will be handed out. Every player wins a prize! There is even a bit of friendly competition built in for those that like that sort of thing. Sign up now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/September 2019 Backlog Banzai to take part. Hello, I kindly ask you to check this article, it seems that the artist in question is not relevant. Insufficient sources --62.109.27.182 (talk) 16:26, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

If you believe the topic doesn't meet Wikipedia's "notability" requirements, please read WP:PROD / WP:AFD and follow one of these venues to suggest its deletion - any editor is welcome to suggest such steps in good faith. Its certainly a borderline case (imo), but without Italian-language knowledge the sources are difficult to assess and the current stub isn't overly promotional. So I won't pursue this issue myself. AXS GUARD

Hi Joe, I updated the User:Gebruiker tvb page in regard to COI. Is there any way to recover the changes to Comparison_of_firewalls and List_of_router_and_firewall_distributions? 10:38, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Gebruiker tvb:, thank you for following Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Regarding these lists, the basic inclusion criterion for product lists is usually an existing, sourced Wikipedia article that must be based on multiple, independent reliable sources with significant coverage and written in a non-promotional, encyclopedic language. You'll find detailed information about article creation on Wikipedia at WP:Your first article. As an editor with a conflict of interest you can prepare such a draft in draftspace, but it's a difficult task and the draft must meet all basic Wikipedia content guidelines (most importantly good sources and a neutral, non-promotional tone).
I noticed that Jimfbleak provided additional useful tips on your user talkpage which cover all important possible hurdles, but please feel free to ask if you have further specific questions (either a volunteer via talk or at WP:Teahouse, a help forum for new editors). If you'd like to suggest changes for an existing article or list, you are also welcome to post a sourced edit request on the article's associated talkpage. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 12:03, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Comparison of text editors

Hello GernamJoe, Sorry, I'm not familiar with Wikipedia rules. Could you please explain, what do mean by "see huge red message on top"? I would very appreciate if I can get help by someone, who is more familiar with the matter and preferable german speaking. Do you have a hint/contact info for me? Thanks in advance and my apologise for any inconvenience. 2A02:8070:A1BC:C00:A102:8793:1DA7:279E (talk) 22:06, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello, generally all contributions and communication on English Wikipedia are supposed to be in English - to allow easy communication and transparency for all English-language speakers in this project. I don't want to sound discouraging, but if the language is a major problem, you might prefer contributing to our sister project in German. The main page for the German-language Wikipedia is located at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Hauptseite.
But to briefly answer your original question: entries in such lists on English Wikipedia usually should have an article written first. Such articles or drafts must be based on multiple independent, reliable sources. Also, if you have a conflict of interest regarding this topic (for example as employee, developer or paid editor), please make sure to read WP:COI (and disclose this connection at least on the article's talkpage). You can create drafts as the one in Draft:BssEditor (it needs sources though), but such a draft must be reviewed by an uninvolved editor before it can be published. Hope these tips are helpful. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:38, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

Artificial intelligence#Government

RE: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Artificial_intelligence&type=revision&diff=917188882&oldid=917188147

Hello. Regarding the diff above I used the phrase 'This is already the case in most countries in the world', that is clearly a mistake on my part. The correct phrase should be 'This is already the case in at least seventy five countries worldwide'. This phrase is directly supported by the ref: [1]

The second ref I added was for information already in the article but without a citation. Instead of lazily adding a citation needed tag, I looked it up and found it already existed on the Wiki elsewhere: Mayor#Artificial_intelligence_mayors but that entry was also slightly inaccurate so I researched and edited it too. If you think the Otaquest ref[2] is not reliable perhaps you prefer this: [3] Note: I delibrately did not use the tabloid(RT and Mirror) citations that existed in the original entry but being a reluctant to delete refs added by someone else I did not remove them either.

Will you accept my edit with the modification discussed above? --94.142.77.80 (talk) 19:15, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for your interest in improving the article. It would be better to discuss article-related questions or suggestions, that may need improvements, on the article's associated talkpage. Regarding reliability, I would recommend to read WP:RS: good sources should be independent (as far as possible), written by acknowledged experts, and have some kind of editorial oversight and reputation for fact-checking (and of course the article content should reflect the source as closely as possible). All editors are welcome to make "bold" good-faith edits usually following the WP:BRD cycle to achieve consensus - you don't need my permission to do so :). Hope these tips are helpful. Best regards. Thanks for the reply, I've resubmitted the edit with modifications discussed above. I asked a question on your talkpage because you reverted my pending edit on a WP:WHITELOCK page and I didn't want to simply resubmit it only for it to be reverted again and thus prevent an WP:EDITWAR --94.142.77.80 (talk) 20:25, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Regarding an image on unlimited scrolling on social media newsfeeds

I see you removed an image I added at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media#Physical_and_mental_health that shows how the brain has to continuously process information. According to your note, I have changed the text in the image to be neutral and reuploaded it. But I see that you have still removed it. Please let me know the reason and how we can go about this.

The most recent version of the image is here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Unlimited_Scrolling_on_Social_Media_Newsfeeds.png

Hello @Avimanyu786:, as recommended on your talkpage, please discuss such article-related issues in a new thread on article talk Talk:Social media. It doesn't make sense to fragment discussions into several 1:1 threads in userspace, and other interested editors may also offer feedback in the more visible article talk. Thank you for your understanding. GermanJoe (talk) 12:21, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
By the way, I did not remove the second re-insertion. That was another editor (see "View history" in the article). GermanJoe (talk) 12:23, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

Y U NO ADMIN?

I'd like to nominate you for adminship. It's pretty clear that you could and would help out at the spam blacklist. You've got over 60,000 edits and a clean block log, and you're active most days in European hours so that helps with time diversity. What do you think? Guy (help!) 21:19, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello @JzG:, thank you for the offer. I'd be glad to help out with admin anti-spam tasks, or other maintenance tasks where I already have some experience like copyvio handling, WP:UAA and WP:AIV. One point though: I haven't done much content work in recent years (I was active in FA-reviewing for several years though, and still do occasional article cleanup and structure fixes). I have briefly thought about an RfA once or twice, but considering the negative view of some users about editors who focus on maintenance tasks I wasn't sure about my net chances. Anyway, I am willing to give it a try - and you are correct of course, some of the admin tools would be really useful for me to contribute in these areas. GermanJoe (talk) 09:36, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
Excellent. Let me do my prep work and share a draft with you. Guy (help!) 17:44, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

-- GermanJoe has been an active editor since August 2010, amassing over 60,000 edits, two thirds of them to main space. I know GermanJoe largely fromt he spam-blacklist, where he is a valued contributor who makes regular well-formed reports. GermanJoe is also active in fixing problem edits, for example [28], [29], [30], tagging promotional and other problem articles for deletion and warning spammers [31] and so on. A look through his edits shows much evidence of patience and decency, and this is reflected in a completely clean block log. -- Would that do for a nomination statement or would you like to highlight some other things? Guy (help!) 18:28, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words - looks fine. It would probably be good to proactively mention the content work in early years (but I can do so in the standard questions of course). Editors with a strong focus on this aspect seem to expect a good knowledge about article creation and basic content guidelines (a legitimate concern to a certain point). I believe I have a good grasp on all these principles, even though I am technically not a "content creator" at the moment. Openly addressing this point and mentioning my past FA-reviewing could help to alleviate such concerns from the get go. My most comprehensive content work, aside from improving several FA-reviewed articles, would probably be Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor where I revised the complete referencing and large parts of the content since 2012. -- Or am I too concerned about possible "must be an editor with several featured and good articles" arguments? GermanJoe (talk) 20:10, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/GermanJoe. Any comments before I transclude it? Guy (help!) 20:31, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
    • I think I should accept and answer the base questions first (at least that's how it's described in the guide). I can get these points done now and give you a ping when it's ready for transclusion (should be only an hour or 2 max). GermanJoe (talk) 21:03, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
OK. I can transclude it, or, since it's late o'clock for us, we could wait for the morning and either you or I transclude it. Your call, sir, and good luck! Guy (help!) 21:07, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
I try to finish the preparation today on Europe time and will then transclude it myself, no problem. Thank you for the nomination. GermanJoe (talk) 21:18, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

Editing News #2 – Mobile editing and talk pages – October 2019

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this multilingual newsletter

Inside this newsletter, the Editing team talks about their work on the mobile visual editor, on the new talk pages project, and at Wikimania 2019.

Help

What talk page interactions do you remember? Is it a story about how someone helped you to learn something new? Is it a story about how someone helped you get involved in a group? Something else? Whatever your story is, we want to hear it!

Please tell us a story about how you used a talk page. Please share a link to a memorable discussion, or describe it on the talk page for this project. The team would value your examples. These examples will help everyone develop a shared understanding of what this project should support and encourage.

Talk Pages

The Talk Pages Consultation was a global consultation to define better tools for wiki communication. From February through June 2019, more than 500 volunteers on 20 wikis, across 15 languages and multiple projects, came together with members of the Foundation to create a product direction for a set of discussion tools. The Phase 2 Report of the Talk Page Consultation was published in August. It summarizes the product direction the team has started to work on, which you can read more about here: Talk Page Project project page.

The team needs and wants your help at this early stage. They are starting to develop the first idea. Please add your name to the "Getting involved" section of the project page, if you would like to hear about opportunities to participate.

Mobile visual editor

The Editing team is trying to make it simpler to edit on mobile devices. The team is changing the visual editor on mobile. If you have something to say about editing on a mobile device, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Edit Cards

What happens when you click on a link. The new Edit Card is bigger and has more options for editing links.

Toolbar

The editing toolbar is changing in the mobile visual editor. The old system had two different toolbars. Now, all the buttons are together. Tell the team what you think about the new toolbar.
  • In September, the Editing team updated the mobile visual editor's editing toolbar. Anyone could see these changes in the mobile visual editor.
    • One toolbar: All of the editing tools are located in one toolbar. Previously, the toolbar changed when you clicked on different things.
    • New navigation: The buttons for moving forward and backward in the edit flow have changed.
    • Seamless switching: an improved workflow for switching between the visual and wikitext modes.
  • Feedback: You can try the refreshed toolbar by opening the mobile VisualEditor on a smartphone. Please post your feedback on the Toolbar feedback talk page.

Wikimania

The Editing Team attended Wikimania 2019 in Sweden. They led a session on the mobile visual editor and a session on the new talk pages project. They tested two new features in the mobile visual editor with contributors. You can read more about what the team did and learned in the team's report on Wikimania 2019.

Looking ahead

  • Talk Pages Project: The team is thinking about the first set of proposed changes. The team will be working with a few communities to pilot those changes. The best way to stay informed is by adding your username to the list on the project page: Getting involved.
  • Testing the mobile visual editor as the default: The Editing team plans to post results before the end of the calendar year. The best way to stay informed is by adding the project page to your watchlist: VisualEditor as mobile default project page.
  • Measuring the impact of Edit Cards: The Editing team hopes to share results in November. This study asks whether the project helped editors add links and citations. The best way to stay informed is by adding the project page to your watchlist: Edit Cards project page.

Meaningless removal of content

hy Joe, i saw your message and saw that you said my content is irrelevant. Ok, I posted those info. on wikipedia so large no. of people can take benefit of it. And those tips are proven to be benefitial.

Have you tried them? They are genuine tips and i am not creating spam over here. I added citation so people can visit that site and can take benefit of information available there.

I am new here.and don't know how to message people but again saying my content is genuine and you removed it meaninglessly. Madaan sumer (talk) 09:10, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Madaan sumer:, contributions should be based on independent, non-promotional sources from acknowledged experts in reputed publications. A personal blog (with Amazon referral links) is not suitable as reliable source for Wikipedia. I have already linked a few more relevant guidelines on your user talkpage - please check out these links, read the provided information and stop adding such links. You are welcome to add constructive contributions based on independent reliable sources though, if you like. GermanJoe (talk) 09:50, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

How to edit in Chennai pagewhich was protected

How to edit protected page like Chennai. Please help me to edit the protected page. KSPRR (talk) 11:01, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello @KSPRR:, using the talkpage for such protected pages, as you did, is a good way to suggest changes as "edit request". But please note that content on Wikipedia must be verifiable, based on published reliable sources. Content without such sources just based on personal knowledge is generally not suitable for inclusion. If you'd like to suggest further changes or edit unprotected pages yourself, please make sure to skim through the blue-linked guidelines first to avoid getting your suggestions and edits rejected. You'll find a technical guide about "how to" add references at WP:REFB, but if you feel unsure about all these templates you can simply provide a link or some bibliographical details to such a reliable expert source. WP:Teahouse is also a good forum for new editors, if you have any Wikipedia-related questions. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 11:21, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Hey Joe, sorry for adding external links which seem to be spam. I found them very useful but I get the point. What I do not understand is why you removed the link to

Could you elaborate what is wrong here? Mathimanu (talk) 16:48, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Mathimanu:, Wikipedia articles cannot serve as reference (Wikipedia does not consider itself a reliable source). So you should generally not add URLs to Wikipedia articles as reference. However, you can re-use and copypaste reliable sources from within such articles, if you need them for additional topics and have double-checked their reliability for the given content. And if you just want to link to a different Wikipedia article for informational purposes, you should use a Wiki-link somewhere in the text instead (formatted as article name here). Hope this helps, but please feel free to ask anytime if you have further questions (or if I may have misunderstood a point). I'd be glad to help. GermanJoe (talk) 17:08, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
Got it! Thanks a ton! Mathimanu (talk) 18:21, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi

Hi
Hi GermanJoe, I checked the COI and guidelines with regards to posting about the Policybazaar page, which you had edited previously. I am in compliance. Please let me know where I went wrong. Wishallmenon (talk) 07:33, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Hello @Wishallmenon:, the posted information on your user talkpage was primarily for your information "just in case" it might apply. If you don't have a connection to the company (for example as employee or paid editor), that's fine of course. Some of the new information in the article seems a bit promotional though (for example: the company's "claims" about their market share are irrelevant unless an independent publication verifies them) and/or overly detailed (for example the "Investments" section including every single minor step of the funding process), but these are content-related concerns that can be resolved via normal editing. GermanJoe (talk) 09:26, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi @GermanJoe:, sure please feel free to edit that or if you want me to do it I can edit that again. Let me know? Regarding the market share i was just citing what the Forbes article said about the company's "claim" about its market share. I Will check if any other independent publications says the same. I structured the investment sections based on how some other startups had done it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wishallmenon (talkcontribs) 11:23, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

List of datasets for machine-learning research

I think it is ok to delete the entry, if indeed the rule is that only journal paper are valid references. However, many datasets in that list have been released at conferences. 188.174.75.151 (talk) 14:16, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for your consideration. Wikipedia is a volunteer project with limited editor ressources, so many articles have flaws (most of them actually) - like missing or inaccurate content, missing sources, or in this case inconsistent list inclusions. So, aside from occasional COI concerns, contributions in such areas from topic experts to improve these articles are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to ask me or at WP:Teahouse, if you have any other Wikipedia-related questions. GermanJoe (talk) 14:34, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Belated congratulations

I have been offline for most of the month so I offer belated congratulations on your successful RFA. I am glad I was able to support before my somewhat involuntary (real life matters) hiatus. Donner60 (talk) 22:14, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Donner60, I appreciate your support. Of course real life should have priority. GermanJoe (talk) 22:34, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Genuine critique of your work is not an attack

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Information icon Dear GermanJoe, please do-not misunderstand your work's critique as attack. Please do-not delete your own work's critique from talk pages. As any democratic system, you are answerable for mistakes you make. Please be professional and do-not mislead the audience by deleting critical comments. Please do-not feel irritated when asked to disclose your own affiliations, financial motivations. In your own words -- "In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gg2265 (talkcontribs) 19:29, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello @Gg2265:, per our talkpage guidelines I can delete any message from my own user talkpage (especially when it starts with a snide, unhelpful header). But of course I will gladly answer any genuine, polite question about Wikipedia-related issues.
Regarding your concern about a possible conflict of interest: I am not being paid by anyone for editing here nor have I any other conflict of interest in the topic and the covered companies or products. I hope this answers your question and that you'll be willing to answer the same question in return: do you have a possible conflict of interest with the topic, in particular related to TrainingData.io? If so, your direct editing of the list is inappropriate and you should suggest changes on article talk instead. Thank you for your consideration. GermanJoe (talk) 20:41, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
Dear @GermanJoe:, That explanation is not enough, and I am explaining why? Do-not dodge this question: Why did you not question user:"Manuaero" for conflict of interest, who is clearly Founder & CEO of LabelBox Inc. Your answer to this question cannot be some lame excuse "Wikepedia is full of COIs and I cannot fix them all". The fact that you questioned some editors and not all for COI raises suspicion that you are being paid by those listed on this page. If there is some genuine information (supported by genuine references) that readers of the article deserve to be informed, that information should be allowed irrespective of COI. Do your job being pragmatic and practical. Every individual posting about their organization has a COI, that does not mean they should not be allowed to inform the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gg2265 (talkcontribs) 21:44, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
I did indeed inform Manuaero about our COI guidelines (see User talk:Manuaero) just as I posted on your user talkpage. And their entry was discussed on the article's talkpage and accepted by uninvolved editors - albeit as a borderline case that was close to being deleted (see Talk:List of manual image annotation tools). The Labelbox entry has 1 OK-ish independent source, your entry has none so far. If you find better sources for your edit, you can suggest an addition as edit request on article talk anytime.
But this debate and the personal accusations are getting rather unconstructive. If you want to continue the content-related discussion about your edit, please use Talk:List of manual image annotation tools instead. If you believe that I am being paid by Labelbox or some other company - a ridiculous and unfounded bad-faith allegation -, please feel free to ask an uninvolved administrator for additional advice.
