Israel bilateral relations

[edit]

Hi, I could use some support in opposing merging Israel-Venezuela relations into (nothingness) Foreign policy of Hugo Chávez. Anything you can add to Israel-Venezuela relations, Israel-New Zealand relations, and Israel-Japan relations would be very appreciated. Respectfully, Republitarian 17:36, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please Vote, as per wiktionary the correct spelling is Wiktionary:anti-Semitic NOT Antisemitic. 70.49.85.238 20:52, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carteret

[edit]

Howdy, I see you've been putting a lot of work into Carteret Yeshiva lately. I did some cleanup work in terms of avoiding advertising sounding language and such. I hope I was helpful.

I was wondering if you could add your opinion to the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Judaism#Yeshiva.27s and the question raised there. I'm trying to get a sense from the community of how to proceed with curriculum section in article about yeshivos. So many of them feel a need to repeat what is found in yeshiva just to flesh out their article rather than finding what is unique about the given yeshiva. Kol Tuv, Joe407 (talk) 22:06, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update Regarding "peacock language": First I would recommend you read WP:PEACOCK. With that in mind, please review your article on Carteret. Here are a few examples that I feel are problematic. After you've read the WP policy guideline, see if you think they should stand.

  1. the once vibrant Carteret Jewish community.
  2. kitchen, offices, and much recreational space
  3. Rabbi Heber delivers a voluntary lecture on Friday nights relating to interesting topics in Halacha (Jewish law),
  4. The two men distinguished themselves in Baltimore’s Kollel Avodas Levi for their outstanding scholarship and broad knowledge of the Talmud and its commentaries.

Additionally, some of the changes I made were to remove statements that were un-encyclopedic or not related to the topic of the article. For example:

  • "In 2007, the Yeshiva participated in the funeral of 103-year old community notable Al Carpenter."
This would be ok if the article was about Mr. Carpenter.
  • "...affectionately known as the “Couch Shiur”."
This is cute but in no way has a place in an encyclopedia article.

In general I will point out that while wikipedia is a wonderful place to give the world an "objective" view of your institution, the best way to do this is by giving sourced facts. By now people know the difference between an article where every statement is sourced and where very little is. Value tends to be assigned to the information accordingly.

On a related note, if I were to be honest I'm not sure I see the Carteret Yeshiva article passing a deletion vote in it's current state. The only source given is a single article in Hamodia and the article does not establish any unique features about the yeshiva distinguishing it from tens of other yeshivas. In contrast, take a look at the article on Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen and its section titles charictaristics. There, while it does not bring sources, the article does explain why the yeshiva(s) are unique and deserve an article in an encyclopedia. At the moment I do not see this in the Carteret article.

Anyway, think about what I wrote and I recommend reading some of the WP policy articles. Joe407 (talk) 01:11, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
