Hello everybody,
I posted today my first page on Wikipedia, which is, of course, my UserPage. I am going to post, intentionally, a long background preface, to explain were my two subjects of interests, Pop Music history and Zionism history, stem from.
My UserPage is going to be a long project, so please be patient. One last request: Since I'm not a native English speaker, I'll be glad to have your corrections here.

I need a User Guide

[edit]

{{helpme}}I am an Information Systems Designer and a Computer Programmer (or at least I was, until recently). In my work, I used to consult books like User Manuals and User Guides, and in recent years, we have also Online Help.
I am a novice Wikipedia user, and first thing to learn is UserBox Design. With my background, I thought it would be simple, but after I've spent two days learning the subject, I can only ask for help.
I don't understand many things, like:
• Where my UserBox library should reside?
• How can I find a UserBox reflecting my country (Israel) and my flag?:
• How can I import an existing UserBox and customize it according to my needs?
• And more..
I don't say that the help materials do not exist. Everything is written somewhere, but the organization needs improvement. I just want to save a lot of searching time.

Gideonrv, you will find everything about userboxes at WP:UBX. - TwoOars 17:38, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Um, well, it's all there at that page.
  • You can keep your userboxes anywhere, but people usually keep them on their user page.
  • Israel userbox is at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Location/Asia
  • To edit an existing userbox, you WP:SUBST it and then make the necessary changes (eg: add {{subst:userbox}} to the page, save it, then edit the page again)
  • To configure the {message} template, WP:SUBST it and then edit it.

Hope that helps. If you want someone else to help you, place a new helpme template or remove the "tl|" part from the above template. - TwoOars 18:30, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Black Music

[edit]

{{helpme}}I tried to add a link to Black Music on my page, but I found that the Black Music page redirects to Hip Hop, which is wrong. Black Music starts from Slaves songs, through Spirituals, Blues and R & B, and Hip Hop is only the end of a long chain. I can write that page myself, but it will take a long time, and meanwhile I ask how to remove the redirection.

Ask on the Hip-Hop talk page about what they want, in order to avoid confusion on the issue. Miranda 08:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation needed

[edit]

Hi Gideonrv,

I'm Renard from the Hungarian Wikipedia. I've seen Hebrew is your native language and I'd like to ask for your help. On the facade of the funeral parlour in the Jewish cemetery in Pápa, Hungary - which I'm writing an article on - there's an epigraph:

נב. עוד קברם יעזבו, בהניע אליהו לפק. תרנט

Can you please tell me what it means and where it originates from (is it a citation from the Torah for example)? Please write your answer here or on my talk page. Thank you in advance. Renard, 20:57, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

A reply to Renard

[edit]

I couldn't post a reply on your Hungarian page, so I post it here:

It's not modern Hebrew, so I am not sure. It's better to translate each word separately:

נב – I'm not sure. Can be 52 (letters have numerical meaning), or the Latin N.B., or some acronym that I don't recognize.

עוד קברם יעזבו – "They will still leave they grave", for sure.

בהניע אליהו – Can be בהגיע אליהו, that means "When Elijah will come", which is connected to the Jewish resurrection belief.

לפק.- Some unknown acronym. Can be לפקדם, "to meet them".

תרנט - is the year 1899, see 5659 (Hebrew year).
