User:R's EfD deleted?

[edit]

Yes, it was deleted. And after talking with some other editors, I came to the conclusion that the concept was great, but it was abused. My version is different in that there are listed rules and warnings, which cut the funneh to a point, but still, it should yield equally amusing debates. I'll also be monitoring the page daily. If anything is posted outside of policy, it will be removed and the editor will be appropriately warned and, if warranted, blocked. I don't foresee many issues. However, should it get out of hand as it did on User:R's page, I'd be willing to delete it all myself.

Please post any questions you may have about it here or my talk page. Also feel free to tweak it. Although, I may tweak your tweak. ;) It's all in good fun, that's what everyone must remember. It's a break from the "work" to share some humor, have a good laugh, and maybe get to know some more editors in the community. LaraLove 07:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too stuck-up

[edit]

This is a humor page, isn't it? Therefore there shouldn't be any actual guidelines. I think R's version was better. This one's...boring. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 01:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We are trying to prevent MYSPACE and Personal attacks from arising like it happened with R's EFD. Marlith T/C 01:50, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't intend to Myspace. It's just that I'm a Wiki-Gnome and I like to discuss my changes before I make them, that's all. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 03:19, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I removed you from the list. If you want to participate, good times, if not, then that's fine too. R's may have been better, but your buddy got it deleted, so you're stuck with this now. LaraLove 08:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please unclose mine

What is the best day to nominate Jimbo Wales?

[edit]

He's not here so I guess it's okay to nominate him. I'm just wondering if there's any day better than March 32nd to do it? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:27, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Darn! I was thinking of doing that. ;P I can't think of anything wrong with the idea right now...but the vandalism mightwill spike. If it gets too bad, we might need this page semi-ed. —La Pianista (TC) 04:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There have already been two attempted EFDs of Jimbo, both of which I've rejected. He's now added to the opt out list, please do not nominate him. Thanks. GlassCobra 04:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, no Jimbo, but do you know of anyone "high ranking," such as an arb, foundation member, legal advisor, etc. who would be willing to be nominated for deletion on April 1? This would be a fun way to do "April Fools" without disrupting the encyclopedia itself. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Casliber is a new Arbcom member and he's curently up. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 07:56, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm currently up for deletion, and I was already deleted once last year (when the page was in R's userspace). That makes me either a good sport, or very unpopular among this group of users. :) Newyorkbrad (talk) 02:02, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is awfully confusing. Who restored Brad? Enigmamsg 02:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested addition

[edit]

Suggested addition:

Do not nominate anyone unless you are reasonably sure they will accept the nomination. If you are nominating someone you do not know well, please avoid embarrassing yourself and ask them if they will accept the nomination before nominating them.

davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:24, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. This has been added to the "Criteria for editor deletion" section. GlassCobra 15:57, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Where is EFDRV? Sam Blab 22:24, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When this page was in R's userspace, I was deleted, took the deletion to DRV, and got myself undeleted. Of course, I was the closing administrator on my own DRV, which would probably be a COI anywhere else in the project, but hey, EFD is special. :) Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, where :P I intend to try and reverse my deletion. Sam Blab 23:17, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think I just opened a new thread on the EFD page. EFD, whatever its other attributes, has the virtue of being non-bureaucratic (as well as non-binding). Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:22, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are looking at it :). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:22, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New EFD template

[edit]

GlassCobra, feel free to move this to a subset of this page. User:Davidwr/Templates/Editor for deletion.

It looks like this:

GlassCobra is currently on death watch. You may comment on his or her right to live at Wikipedia:EFD#GlassCobra.

It uses {{BASEPAGENAME}} so it looks good on any user's talk page or sub-page.

Frankly, I like commons:File:Death.jpg better but the file is obscured by en:File:Death.jpg. I'm taking steps to remedy that. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 23:18, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meh. I'm not in love with it. You can keep it for yourself if you like, but I don't think I'll move it to my userspace. Thanks though. GlassCobra 01:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's the minimum delay between nominations?

[edit]

I see a nomination has been removed because the editor was nominated last October. Assuming the new nomination is with the permission of the nominee, what's the minimum time between nominations? If it's not set yet, I'd recommend make it somewhere between 1 month and a year. 3.141... months sounds like a good round number but it makes me hungry, 2.718... months seems more natural. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:18, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

42......minutes. SimonKSK 01:44, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was being serious. I know, that's sacrilege in these here parts. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:29, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
WARNING: SERIOUS COMMENT I think six months is a good waiting time. I personally would love getting re-deleted, but I don't mind the wait. END SERIOUS COMMENT I'd like to come back from the dead. ;P —La Pianista (TC) 04:55, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editors may not be nominated more than once, period. This is for two reasons: to keep an influx of new editors coming in and make things fresh and interesting, and to discourage excessive clique-ishness and Myspacing. No one should be spending so much time around here that they should be nominated more than once. This is also why there is no EFDRV (aside from the fact that it's rather stupid). I know that this is fun, guys, but the encyclopedia comes first. GlassCobra 01:52, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

April Fool's, redux

[edit]

As a followup to the Jimbo thread above, why not nominate User:Larry Sanger on April 1? That would be pretty funny, especially if you can tie in the co-founder thing in the nomination. GlassCobra 02:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not humorous to me. Not one bit. It's mean. I know you will say this-Nominate me. No. I hate this kind of thing. My friend is there. That friend is Mono, and he is my mentor. It's amusing. Wikipedia is actually filled with little hidden amusing things to allow people to take a little break from the serious stuff around here, and occasionally to make and "meet" new friends. One day I hope to be up for deletion... but not today... or Saturday... maybe next Tuesday (gotta check my schedule) or a year from now. ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 03:52, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
o_O. Maybe you could adopt him if he gets deleted? x_x Joke joke joke, nothing serious here. Netalarmtalk 04:23, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know next to nothing that he does. Why is this page so mean? IanCome talk to me! 10:08, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's not. The editors involved are just having fun with each other, and anyone can opt out. Look at the deletion reviews... some are the silliest stuff I've seen. Shipping editors to australia, Strong Remove from Jimbo's Underpants, steal his commas, Distract with shiny object, facepalm, etc... all in good fun, and only those willing to be a part of it are up for deletion or voting on deletions. So... nothing mean spirited about it. Heck, read some of the self-nominations. ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 21:01, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah? Do you really think that I like the deletion reviews? Think first before you act. IanCome talk to me! 21:18, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, but the people involved are fine with it. They don't find it mean-spirited, and seeing as they're the ones being "nominated" for "deletion" that's kind of important. And for those who don't want to be nominated, they can opt out of the process. People will not be listed here unless they're fine with being listed. Hello, my name is and I represent the lolipop guild of editors opposed to the deletion of other editors guild. I am supremely offended at this page. It is poorly thoughtless and bad things.
