Alec Baldwin
Hi, thanks for your help on Alec Baldwin. However, I noticed you protected the page for a shorter period of time than the previous protection, which expired only hours ago. Would you please consider making the protection longer? (at least a year if not indefinite) Chessend (talk) 09:31, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Chessend: Yes seems like he has a "fan"! I'm usually somewhat weary of long protections but looking at the fact that it only just came off a six month today I've put it back at another six months. I've put it on my watchlist so will monitor it as well. Thanks for your help! Glen 09:39, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Are you sure you want to go with another six months instead of something longer? Chessend (talk) 09:42, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Chessend: Yeah now it's on my watchlist I'll keep an eye on it. We can also block the IP range if it persists as well. Glen 09:44, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new beta version of the Wikimedia Commons app for Android. It has a new zoom function when you look at images. It can also suggest places when you upload geotagged photos. [1]
Problems
- There was a problem with the Commons database on 27 May. Commons could not be edited for eight minutes. Because of this problem the database was moved. This caused another short read-only time on 29 May. [2][3][4]
- The Vector skin had a problem where you couldn't add links to the article in other languages. You couldn't see the section if there were no links to other languages already. It also removed content translation links and links to language settings. This has now been fixed. [5]
Changes later this week
- You can get a notification when someone links to a page you created. You can turn these notifications off for individual pages. You can soon turn them off also in the notifications you get. [6]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 2 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 3 June. It will be on all wikis from 4 June (calendar).

Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant
hello Glen,
Can you please recover my Da Dong wikipedia page? As this is a school project that counts for marks for my courses, it is not for promotion purpose. I tried to edit it for several times that they all got deleted.
Thank you, Natalie Cheng — Preceding unsigned comment added by Natalie Testimony (talk • contribs) 13:30, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Natalie Testimony: Your article is written like a promotion, and therefore meets section G11 of Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. You have recreated that article various times, and also your username is a violation of Wikipedia's username policy as a promotional username that implies shared use, and you will be blocked soon. –User456541 13:42, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- Natalie Testimony, Hi Natalie, as User456541 has said your article has been deleted by three different administrators because it is in breach of Wikipedia's policies on advertising. I don't know what your school project entails but I'd recommend you do not recreate it or you may find yourself blocked as an advertising only account. I'll leave a message on your talk page with some info regarding how to create your first article. Good luck. Glen 13:58, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- Natalie Testimony, additionally what you could do is try to improve the existing Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant article instead of creating a new one. If you compare the version you tried to create to the current one you'll see a big difference in the tone and way it is written. All the best again. Glen 14:04, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Kamil Szeremeta
Hi Glen. Sorry to bother you, but seeing as you helped me yesterday by removing page protection from Michał Cieślak (boxer) (thanks again), I was wondering if you could do it again? Same as before, Kamil Szeremeta is protected due to repeated deletions but now passes WP:NBOX after having held the European Boxing Union title (listed on Title Assessment), and also passes GNG with the media coverage over the past few years. Thanks. – 2.O.Boxing 00:42, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- Squared.Circle.Boxing, sure he meets WP:GNG for sure. Fences and windows just a ping as a courtesy, I don't think this needs to go to DRV as he's receiving substantial coverage with upcoming fight with Gennady Golovkin, but please let me know if any issues. Cheers. Glen 04:47, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Some articles have tables that can be sorted in different ways. For example a list of countries can be sorted alphabetically but you can click on the size column to sort them by size. If you clicked on the column a second time it would sort the countries from the bottom to the top instead. A third click will now take you back to the original sorting. [7]
- Self-closed tags now work as in the HTML5 specifications. This means you should stop using some of them.
<b/>
is an example of a self-closed tag that won't work.area, base, br, col, embed, hr, img, input, keygen, link, meta, param, source, track, wbr
can be self-closed. Pages with tags that should not be self-closed have been listed in a tracking category since 2016. They will be listed in Special:LintErrors/self-closed-tag. This doesn't affect<references />
or<ref />
. [8] - There is a banner called
WikidataPageBanner
. It is for example used by the Wikivoyages, Wikimedia Russia and the Catalan, Basque, Galician and Turkish Wikipedias. It will now been seen by mobile visitors too. Before this it was only seen on desktop. The wikis should update instructions onMediaWiki:Sitenotice
so that editors know to test and style for mobile too. [9][10]
Changes later this week
- You can now edit MassMessage descriptions through the API. This is useful for tools and gadgets. [11]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 June. It will be on all wikis from 11 June (calendar).
Future changes
- A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. It will not work after 13 July. Wikis should use TemplateStyles instead. 118 wikis need to fix this. You can read more and see if your wiki is affected. [12]

TOTAL CONFUSED WHAT TO DO NOW !! THANKS — Preceding unsigned comment added by WAFEF (talk • contribs) 06:38, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- WAFEF, your attempted contributions are absolutely not acceptable and clearly fall under the classification of promotional. In fact if you look at your filter log you'll see why your edits were blocked as promotional. Additionally your username is a breach of our username policy so I would recommend changing that as well. Finally it would appear your first account (User:Wafef) has already been blocked for promotion so I would tread very carefully with this one. Glen 06:56, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
RedWarn Blocking
Hi! Thanks for filling in the survey - I should clarify that RedWarn has no blocking features at the moment, as I'm not an admin so I can't test these features rigorously enough to release them to other users. I hope, if and when I become an administrator, I can add blocking and other administrative features because they'd be very useful. Thanks again! Ed6767 talk! 10:09, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

- Glen, thank you for trying it out! :) Ed6767 talk! 10:19, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ed6767, here's an interesting one for you. Looks like Redwarn rolled back twice? Maybe I accidentally double clicked the button but seems strange it would rollback my rollback? Glen 04:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Glen, very confusing - but it does look like you double-clicked the button with exact timing just as the first rollback submitted, so the second click passed the "latest revision" check but then when it was finding the next one it glitched out, but from a UX point of view, you shouldn't be able to do that - so I'll see if I can work on a fix as something like that happening is extremely disruptive and very annoying. Thanks for pointing that out! Ed6767 talk! 13:04, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ed6767, I was on mobile so likely I did tap it twice. Only been a one off so not a biggie. Thanks again! Glen 13:08, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

your Reese's Pieces reverts and block
I can't see the revdel'ed content, but based on the target, the size of the edit, and the Thunder Bay, Ontario BayTel ISP this is almost certainly the LTA documented at User:Meters/Reese's hoax. Thanks for catching him so quickly. Almost 120 attempts to add that hoax over 6 months on 10 different articles. Eight page protections and 23 blocks that I know of. Currently evading a one-month block on user:216.211.86.162 Meters (talk) 05:41, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Meters, thanks yeah I put all those Reese's pages on my watchlist so if I'm online I should catch them. I wasn't sure if I should block the IP for longer but figured they'd just hop anyway. I'll ping you if I see anything else and if you see anything feel free to do the same. Thanks Meters. Glen 06:38, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Wikiproject
Hey Glen, i was wondering how someone could become an administrator on a Wikiproject when it seems abandoned. I wanted to maintain one and keep it active again Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:38, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Synoman Barris, hey, nice shiny new username! Not quite following did you have a specific one in mind? Glen 09:39, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Glen, Yeah, I saw a Wikiproject Kenya and it seemed old and unimproved , so I wanted to delete everything , rename it and give it a new style. Is that possible? Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:42, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Glen, or am I still not making sense? Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:45, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Synoman Barris, yes you're making sense but I'm not sure I can help. Usually the only way to become an administrator is to demonstrate yourself as a valued contributor on the specific wiki. Of course different wikis have different criteria in order to become an admin, and some are much easier than others. I'm not familiar with the criteria on the wikis you've cited but best course of action would be to speak to an admin there, and of course spend some time understanding the basic requirements of each. Glen 09:52, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Glen, Thanks, I’ll try that. Have a nice day Glen. Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:54, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Synoman Barris, sorry I've just reread what you wrote and now realise what you mean (I initially thought you were asking to become an administrator on the Kenyan wiki not the en Wikiproject). My bad. It's a good question - I think you could possibly contact the initial founders to see if they were still active, and any other members. If they weren't then I'm sure you could pick it up again. I founded a Wikiproject back in my initial days but it is since inactive and I'd certainly have no issues with anyone rejuvenating it. - Glen, Thanks, that’s certainly what I meant. Cheers Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 12:01, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
All the best! Glen 08:14, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- Glen, Thanks, I’ll try that. Have a nice day Glen. Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:54, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Request for undoing your revision on Sushant's page
The requirement of a page dedicated to the information and study on our beloved Sushant's untimely passing is very necessary. Please undo your revision and recreate the specific page so that more and more people will be aware of the correct information in a neutral sense. It will also help to avoid any misinformation or rumours. Thank you for your attention. Please do not merge Suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput with Sushant Singh Rajput.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Shayaan Raza (talk • contribs)
- Shayaan Raza I appreciate what you're saying and as someone who spends a lot of time in India I emphasise with you. Unfortunately that is not how Wikipedia works. The article is without question undue weight. That being said I will not revert you again however I cannot guarantee others will not do the same. My not reverting you should not be seen as support of your change however. I'm just not prepared to edit war. All the best. Glen 14:13, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind gesture. I also hope not to get into trouble the same as you. The problem is that there are very few reliable Wikipedia editors here in India and most of them are not regular. This causes less activity. My areas of interest in editing are film plots, biographies, etc related to the film industry. Thanks. Shayaan Raza (talk) 13:56, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- There are some new tools to make it easier for newcomers to start editing. They are available on some wikis. These wikis had a problem with the visual editor for a short period of time last week. This was because of a bug in the new tools. It was soon fixed. [17]
- Some user scripts and gadgets stopped working because of a change to CSS selectors.
.vectorTabs
should be replaced with.vector-menu-tabs
to fix this. [18]
Changes later this week
- The developers are working on a new interface to solve edit conflicts on talk pages. This will be released on 24 June. You can give feedback. [19]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 23 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 24 June. It will be on all wikis from 25 June (calendar).
Future changes
- A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. It will not work after 13 July. Wikis should use TemplateStyles instead. 91 wikis still need to fix this. You can read more and see if your wiki is affected. [20]

Why is describing Pulse as a gay club vandalism? Are you trying to say it wasn't or ungay it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:4D81:1000:C54D:1F8B:14B1:175B (talk) 12:26, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- I don't think it's relevant to repeatedly point it out on the article but the reason I removed my warning as I can see why you feel it's relevant within the article. If you insert again I will not revert but please don't do it again after that if someone else reverts as you'll breach WP:3RR. Glen 12:31, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Can you just g5 the rest of these so I don't have to tag them all? Praxidicae (talk) 12:40, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Gizapink block evasion
Hi, thanks for the recent block you made for 50.101.52.94. However, I suspect that this user could be a block evasion from Gizapink, given his previous editing history. On May 3, I made a bold edit updating the decade-old Ottawa montage, however Gizapink came along and reverted the edit prompting me to discuss on the talk page. After a couple days of discussing on May 15, I noticed that he got blocked for edit warring and personal attacks on COVID-19 pandemic in a dispute over an image, effectively before reaching any consensus on Talk:Ottawa. Then on May 23, Allice Hunter proposed his montage. We both made a conclusion that it should be used in the article and went undisputed for nearly a month, until a few days ago. This IP reverted Allice's montage stating "this wasn't the image discussed on talk" and yada yada yada and made no sense at first, but it occurred to me that the IP could've been referring to the unfinished montage discussion on Talk:Ottawa prior to his block. Because both are fans of making personal attacks and seem to be very concerned over images, I suspect that block evasion is at play here. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 04:59, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- Nkon21, Yes looking at the edit history and the erm, "colorful" use of edit summaries I suspect you're 100% correct. Might be worth opening a sockpuppet investigation (if there isn't one already) as there may be sleeper accounts. I've put the pages on my watchlist and will keep an eye out. deletion of my user page
Hi Glen,
As a publisher for a book on George_Leybourne by Christopher Beeching entitled The Heaviest of Swells and seeing that the information about Leybourne on wikipedia is incorrect. I am trying to set up a page so that I may edit and correct the George Leybourne page with the correct citations and information. Without what you claim as self promotion, how else am I to introduce myself and my credentials to the world without citations and links to what I am doing.
Or does the author himself have to set up a page so he can correct the mistakes on wikipedia?
Regards Douglas Douglas Foote (talk) 16:14, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
- Douglas Foote, Hi Douglas, the reason as to why your user page was deleted is quite clearly outlined on your talk page. It's fine to note who you are ln your user page but linking to your business website and promoting what you do is not an acceptable use of that space. I'd advise you read the Wikipedia:Userpage guidelines. Beside that, editing pages where you have a conflict of interest is also highly discouraged. Please take the time to read out conflict of interest guidelines as well and make the necessary declarations on your user page. I'll post more info to your page now. Thanks. Can you delete the specific revision? He can still be able to link to it defeating the purpose of deleting the page. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:20, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- Howard the Duck, got it. Cheers. Glen 18:28, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
