User:Vikram Q1W2 - block extended
I extended the block on User:Vikram Q1W2 for continued harassment on User talk:Fylindfotberserk, and block evasion using multiple IPs. You may want to keep an eye on this one too. -- Alexf(talk) 12:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexf, good call and will do. Thanks for the note. Glen (talk) 12:50, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexf, just saw the logs. I'd have indeffed him you were very restrained. Will definitely keep an eye out - thankful the filter caught it. Thanks again. Glen (talk) 12:58, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alexf Thank you. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:10, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Those IP trolls seem to be back from. See Special:Contributions/2409:4063:2193:640B:C425:386A:143:7890. Seems to be hounding me [1] and removed perfectly OK sourced content with self-identification [2]. Seems a range block is necessary again. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:12, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, rangeblocked two weeks and also protected your user subpages yesterday. Let me know if any other problems. Like whackamole at this point! Glen (talk) 16:18, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Holy fuark man! I didn't know this no-life of a troll Indian version of SJW kinda guy/girl/whatever was doing that to my test pages, that too created 10 years back Facepalm. Thanks very much. Kindly indef protect these 1, 2 since these are my test pages. Unbeknownst to these things going on in my back, yesterday I removed these links from my user page to make way for the Barstars and other recognition LOL!. It believes that since I've put genetic data 10 years ago in some article, I belong to that group. That some low IQ caste-mongering thinking that is. I've added genetic data in a few other caste articles too, that got removed now as per changes in policy. I've also added/updated DNA data in Turkish, Han Chinese, Burusho and Swedish people articles too. This seems to be our guy from 10 years ago. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:22, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, don't worry got your back. Protected. Might pay to think about your talk page indefinitely too as they apparently have nothing else to do! Ironic as they are back here every day claiming others have no life. See anything else just sing out email open if urgent. Glen (talk) 18:00, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Typical of this "generation-with-smartphones" having nothing better to do than vandalize and troll Wikipedia. What more they can do, TikTok and PUBG got banned in India . Thanks for taking care of those articles... Most people who come to my talk page are regulars and if some IP or new user has some issues to discuss, I'll be doing that in their talk page. You can indef protect that too. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:16, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

- Fylindfotberserk, I've protected the page. Looks like a rangeblock will cause quite a lot of collateral damage per Special:Contributions/2409:4063:2193:640b:c425:386a:143:7890/33 so may just have to keep playing whackamole. Just let me know. Glen (talk) 03:03, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Asia Pacific Greens Federation Secretary
I really don't understand how you can possible interpret WP:ROLE as not applying to this name. "Bob at Asia Pacific Greens Federation" would be acceptable, as would "Bob the Secretary at Asia Pacific Greens Federation", but not "Asia Pacific Greens Federation Secretary". The user claims to be the Secretary General of the Asia Pacific Greens Federation. We can assume that there is only one such position at a time, and that it is not a shared account, but we cannot assume that the account will remain with the same person, as is required. I don't see how we could ever apply WP:ROLE to a role account that was used by a single person at a time using your interpretation. If Donald Trump verified his identity and created an account named "President of the US" would you allow that? Meters (talk) 18:51, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry. Just saw your followup on the board. Never mind. Meters (talk) 18:53, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Meters, all good it was my bad. It's WP:ISU that applies and it even specifically uses the Secretary example. I do try to be cautious when blocking and in this case was too much so. Nice catch and sorry for (my) confusion. Glen (talk) 18:58, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- No probs. Didn't take us long to figure it out. Meters (talk) 20:30, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Racist sock previously blocked by yourself
184.170.72.248 is trolling again following the expiration of his block. Given that this individual was blocked for two years on his original IP, perhaps you would be willing to extend the sanction further. Thanks. Dory Funk (talk) 23:27, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

- AndCoHoldings, Hi there, the issue isn't whether or not you manage the company the issue is simply the name as it stands doesn't meet our username policy (please read WP:PROMONAME). You can change your username to "John at Gay World Events" that wouldn't be an issue, it just has to represent you as an individual not the company itself. I can't actually issue the username change but if you follow the directions on your talk page an renamer will take care of it. Hope this makes sense and let me know if I can help further. User:Go-Tsumaroki/Menu protection
I noticed that you granted protection on this request, with the petitioner's rationale being "highly visible template." I'd previously declined the user's request for protecting there page here. That menu template was recently created, and I don't see how that qualifies as a "highly visible template," and it has no history of vandalism. I was about to warn that user to stop making bogus requests to RFPP, but I wanted to see if I was missing something regarding protection criteria. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:28, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Ohnoitsjamie, ah I just protected it under user request in own user space, I wasn't aware of the history. Should've checked more closely. Glen (talk) 15:56, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Ohnoitsjamie, have amended and notified the user. Thanks for the note. Glen (talk) 16:04, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. On one hand, it doesn't really hurt anything to protect a page like that, but it does potentiall set a slippery precedent ("you protected that edidtors page when he asked, why not mine?"). Cheers, OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:22, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Troll
This no-life troll is hounding Brahmin articles patrolled by me and has recently removed in List of Brahmins. Kindly PP the article. All the content removed by him/her was already there verified by Sitush who is knwoledgable in caste related matters. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:57, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, It's tantamount to harassment. I've rangeblocked but they're jumping across some significant ranges so I expect they'll be back. Just let me know. Glen (talk) 09:05, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Locking the above article for sometime would be od great help. I've edited all caste related things in Wikipedia but this person clearly seems to have problem with Brahmins only. That's why he/she/it is reverting/removing sourced mention of Brahmin from articles. Ironically 99% of the time I myself remove mention of caste in articles if not sourced or falls outside of some policy. To be fair, I rarely add caste in articles, only maintain it if properly sourced. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:14, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, I blocked the range 2 weeks and have put the article on my watchlist. If they come back I'll protect but for now the block should work. I'll keep an eye on it too. Glen (talk) 09:18, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Admins can now see links to diffs of deleted revisions on Special:AbuseLog. This uses the interface of Special:Undelete. [3]
- Editors are automatically added to some user groups. For example editors are added to autoconfirmed users when they have edited enough times and long enough. Abuse filters can hinder users from automatically getting user rights for a period of time. They can also remove rights user have. Wikis can now ask to change how long this period of time is for their wiki in Phabricator. It is currently five days. [4]
Problems
- Last year some abuse filters stopped working because of a new change. If they tried to use variables that were unavailable for that action they would fail. This has now been fixed. [5]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 September. It will be on all wikis from 1 October (calendar).
Future changes
- You can't see the language links to other language versions from the talk page or history page. They are also not shown when you edit an article. This could change. It is not decided if for example the history page should link to another history page or to the article. You can take part in the discussion in Phabricator.
- The link colours could change. This is to make the difference between links and other text more clear. You can read more in Phabricator.
- In your preferences you can choose to get different notifications on the web or by email. You will see
Apps
as one of the alternatives later this week. This is because the Android and iOS Wikipedia apps will use push notifications for those who want them. You can see the preferences on the test wiki. The goal is to have push notifications on Android in October and on iOS in early 2021. [6] - You can soon put pages on your watchlist for a limited time. This could be useful if you want to watch something for a shorter time but don't want it on your watchlist forever. It now works on mediawiki.org and will come to more wikis later. You can read more and see when it will come to other wikis.
- You can see what Wikimedians think are the best new technical tools this year. You can also nominate them.

need help create the page on Sunil Prem Vyas
Hello Glen It has been long time I have been searching information on sunil prem vyas (indian theatre and film celebrity) on wikipedia, as i noticed sunil prem vyas wikipedia was always redirecting to one of his directorial movie- Take It Easy (2015 film). Hence i created the page with correct information, which is now moved. I could really use little guidance and help from you to edit/create it properly, as it is my first informative page on wikipedia. Thank you for your patience.

- Sumati dahuja, my advice is to make sure you clearly establish his notability by linking to reliable sources. Please read WP:N and WP:CITE. The article has been repeatedly recreated and the previous versions weren't well written. Please spend some time building the article so it doesn't get deleted again. Thanks. Glen (talk) 08:00, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Sumati dahuja, I'd also recommend starting here: Help:Your first article Glen (talk) 08:01, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
(@Glen:) Thanks for your precious remarks glen. Will work on the same. Sumati dahuja (talk) 08:41, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

- Thanks for whacking that thing. After my tp got pped, I usually don't report unless it is a clear wp:vand. Glen (talk) 17:53, 3 October 2020 (UTC)LOL. The hilarious thing is that anyone with half a brain can work out who I am (I have always used my real name on Wikipedia) so calling me someone who "sits on their ass and does nothing" is comical at best. Perhaps you should be asking yourself the same question as you jump from IP to IP trying to troll a user week after week month after month. Pot. Kettle. Black. Laughable.

Even Arjayay [7] . This guy is prejudiced against English people (as per posts in my talk) but ironically can't leave the English Wikipedia alone to save its own life. Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- There is a new tool where you can see which home wiki users have in discussions on Meta. This can help show which communities are not part of the discussion on wikis where we make decisions that affect many other wikis.
- You can now thank users for file uploads or for changing the language of a page. [12]
Problems
- There were many errors with the new MediaWiki version last week. The new version was rolled back. Updates that should have happened last week are late. [13]
- Everyone was logged out. This was because a user reported being logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [14]
- Many pages have JavaScript errors. You can read more and now see a list of user scripts with errors.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (calendar).
- Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in
[[Child]]ren
is linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis. [15]
Future changes
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [16]

- @Glen and Fylindfotberserk: Seems to be back with a new range Special:Contributions/27.60.97.195. Please block the wider range ASAP before further damage. Also, dynamic IPs from carries/mobile network operators change very fast and have broad ranges available. If this aggravates, blocking Airtel (the vandal's ISP) in Lucknow from might be the only option. Gotitbro (talk) 10:59, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Gotitbro: Seems to be the only solution. This person uses Jio as well. Thanks for your effort. Kindly report it if you find more. Pinging @Bishonen and Zzuuzz:. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:13, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Another one 223.225.115.1, this is probably not going to stop unless hard measures taken. Gotitbro (talk) 11:34, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Gotitbro: This one seems to be from Delhi. A large range from Haryana to UP. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:00, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Gotitbro, whackamole it is then. Keep me posted if you see any more. The ranges we can block are limited by MediaWiki software but will do what we can. Glen (talk) 12:44, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. This vandal's trolling of me has become disruptive to the project in the process as my range of edits is quite large. Since most of the IPs seem to be from Lucknow, a region specific block can be used? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:01, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, this isn't my area of expertise unfortunately (especially with IPv6) but there's enough admins monitoring this page that will help. If you're being harassed I'm happy to block as wider range as I/we can. Definitely harder with mobile networks their ranges are really wide but alert me or AIV as soon as you see it. Glen (talk) 14:07, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yup, totally. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:10, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Another use and throw user came up Special:Contributions/Chandigarh_Diaries. Didn't report it first the time. Created only to troll me it seems. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:20, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, obviously, Fylindfotberserk. I've blocked it. What about the attacks in Hindi — you want them revdel'd? It's perhaps dignifying them too much. Bishonen | tålk 14:27, 6 October 2020 (UTC).
- @Bishonen: Yeah, kindly revdel it. Troll was trying to emulate Bhojpuri flavoured Hindi there. Here it tried Urdu. Their master User:Nikhil Srivastava used to do the same thing. I saw one of his confirmed sock using Punjabi to talk crap about Sitush. Failing miserably. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:43, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- OK, done. Bishonen | tålk 15:25, 6 October 2020 (UTC).
- Bishonen, thanks Bish. Glen (talk) 14:50, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

this one from Delhi now. Same old. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:30, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Another. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:42, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, got 'em. Again sorry you're having to put up with this. Glen (talk) 18:01, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that my country is being badly represented here in Wikipedia thanks to this vandal. Says he/she/it can buy 10,000 sims just to troll me. Look at the desperation and frustration for not being able to play PUBG and TikTok. Seems technically illiterate, possibly doesn't know that one can stay logged in for 365 days. Lol @ them thinking that I was continuously editing for 12 years!. Seriously they'll literally die of shock seeing the number of edits by our top tier editors. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:17, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, I have to admit this person mocking others for the number of edits they have while saying they will continue to buy hundreds of sim cards in their attempts to disrupt WP is the epitome of irony. This person has spent day and night doing this for how many weeks now? Kinda pathetic really. Glen (talk) 18:24, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Almost a month now. Pathetic 100%. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:35, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, I'm heading offline so any disruption overnight report to AIV. No doubt another chapter starts tomorrow! Speak then. Glen (talk) 18:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- This one has gone too far. That troll is cussing Hindu gods and goddesses now. Looks very much politically and religiously motivated now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:40, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, despicable. Really sorry you're being harassed. I'm on mobile now but might be worth taking to WP:ANI to see if we can get some better solution than whackamole. Agree this has gone too far. Glen (talk) 11:11, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

User talk:JP JACOBS INTERNATIONAL PRIVATE LIMITED
Can you also revoke access for this editor to edit their own talk page? They are just adding promotional garbage to it. Thank you.--VVikingTalkEdits 14:29, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- Viewmont Viking, Done. Thanks for heads up. Glen (talk) 17:11, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- Because of the problems with the MediaWiki version two weeks ago last week's updates are also late. [18][19][20]
Changes later this week
- Live previews didn't show the templates used in the preview if you just edited a section. This has now been fixed. You can also test CSS and JavaScript pages even if you have the live preview enabled. Previously this didn't work well. [21][22]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 October. It will be on all wikis from 15 October (calendar).

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 October. It will be on all wikis from 22 October (calendar).
Future changes
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [24]
- In the AbuseFilter extension, the
rmspecials()
function will be updated soon so that it does not remove the "space" character. Wikis are advised to wrap all the uses ofrmspecials()
withrmwhitespace()
wherever necessary to keep filters' behavior unchanged. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [25] - Some gadgets and user-scripts use the HTML div with the ID
#jump-to-nav
. This div will be removed soon. Maintainers should replace these uses with either#siteSub
or#mw-content-text
. A list of affected scripts is at the top of phab:T265373.

Problems
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on October 27 around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [26]
- Last week, links to "diffs" from mobile watchlists and recentchanges were linking to page-revisions instead of diffs. This has now been fixed. [27]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- Since the introduction of the interface administrators user group in 2018, administrators couldn’t view the deleted history of CSS/JS pages. Now they can. [28]
- There was a problem with the Change Tags. The software would apply the "Reverted" tag to any page actions such as page-protection changes if they came directly after a reverted edit. This has now been fixed for new edits. [29]
- The Reply tool will be offered as an opt-in Beta Feature on most Wikipedias in November. Another announcement will be made once the date is finalized. [30]
