Dear Mutt, True that _I_ am not a reliable source. But my added note is not an _opinion_ of mine, but an objective matter of fact. Through the viol hyperlink my note included a reference as proof. Please have a look at pictures of 1. The Hofner model 500/1, 2. A violin, and 3. A viol, by visiting their wikipedia articles. Note the apparent differences to a violin: the viol and Hofner have slanted shoulders and no pointed protrusions delimiting the waist, but corners. It is possible that the Hofner bass got its shape from a double bass scaled down, but certainly not from a violin! Of course, around 1960 the viol was known to but a few, hence the misnomer arose, but with the resurrection of renaissance/baroque instruments since then, it should be pointed out. There are at least a dozen mentions of the subject in wp pages on Bach's music. It is gross negligence not to have a page on the Andras Bach book! Go-in (talk) 14:41, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
