DYK for Anthony Midget
On 23 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Anthony Midget, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Anthony Midget was briefly hired to be an assistant coach at Marshall, but was hired at Penn State before ever coaching a game at Marshall? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anthony Midget. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Phillies vs Orioles game
Hi GP! In the spring training game last Sunday, the Phillies did beat us 5-3. Oh well, it's only spring training. Watching the game now on MSN HD, Comcast Channel 4 or 247 (HD). Also, I declined the article by the IP who requested you review it. Can you please explain to them why? Thanks. JHUbal27•Talk•E-mail 03:41, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

- Ok. Good night. I'm not tired (yet). Actually, that's the wrong game. The Phillies are kicking our butt. 7-0 top of the fourth, wait 10-0 now. I don't know, but sounds like the mercy rule is coming up. JHUbal27•Talk•E-mail 03:51, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Baseball player Good Article criteria
Hey, Go Phightins! I'm trying to get started at WP:BASEBALL and I'm wondering what exactly a baseball player's page should have to become a Good Article? Is there a certain GA I should model any articles I edit off of? Is there a page that lists some kind of criteria? I'm originally from WP:USRD, so I'm guessing the criteria is just a bit different. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. TCN7JM 23:52, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am unaware of any baseball-specific criteria, but generally, most articles have a three paragraph lead, a summation of their childhood and high school baseball careers, a section on their minor league careers, and then about one paragraph for every two or so big league seasons, followed by a personal life section that's a paragraph or two. Some articles have a "player profile" or "scouting report" section. A baseball FA example would be Derek Jeter, a GA example that I wrote would be Jim Thome which I am working to take to FA. Some other baseball GA examples include Albert Pujols and Ivan Rodriguez. I hope this helps. Regards, Go Phightins! 00:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! TCN7JM 00:41, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Adoption
Speaking of adoption, when I want to create the final exam, do I just follow the instructions at User:Go Phightins!/Adopt/Final? Or are you still working on it. I'm confused. How can the page not be created, but the questions are preloaded? Do you have to give me a link to User:Go Phightins!/Adopt/Final before I proceed. I haven't created it yet, I'm just wondering. Also, sorry for overwhelming you with qustions. Just take your time. I have all the time in the world because I'm on spring break. Yay! ~~JHUbal27 13:34, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi!! I have been stalking your pages for quite a while and found that you got two posts open for Adoptees, and if you don't mind, I'd like to budge into that spot. I think I've made you an offer you can't refuse (or will you)??? The Wikimon (talk) 14:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Your AfD vote on Lauren Simonetti
Hello sir - Tonight I noticed that your weak delete vote had been changed to keep at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lauren Simonetti when an editor was adding his own keep vote. I undid that edit to restore your vote. I don't hang out at AfD (except for when I write ill-conceived articles :) ), so I'm not sure of the protocol. I left a note on the user's talk page and I figured you would see the revert on your watchlist. I just wasn't sure whether this was a random thing or if an editor was giving you a hard time specifically. EricEnfermero Howdy! 05:12, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter
We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.
Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr ( Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare ( Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus ( Keilana (submissions) and Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John ( Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.
Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.
A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Just Saying Hello
Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I've heard from one of your adoptees (they posted on my talk page), and it seems as though you're keeping quite busy! I hope that all is well, and let me know if you need help with any menial or tedious tasks. Happy Easter (regardless of your religion, I hope it's a good day)! --Jackson Peebles (talk) 17:42, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Haven't seen you in a while, Jackson. Yes, my adoption course is going pretty well. My first graduate, Tazerdadog, is helping me out a little bit...as a matter of fact he is running someone through the course with me just peering over the shoulder for JHUbal. I trust you enough that if you wanted to try to run someone through the course, perhaps Tom, with me just peering over your shoulder and commenting if I feel necessary, I think that would work. If you are looking for more menial, non-cognitive function requiring tasks, you could copy-paste tests onto adoptees' pages when they indicate they're ready. Whatever you feel comfortable doing, I am fine with. Both you and Tazer definitely are probably ready to adopt on your own if you wanted to, but I am more than happy to have some assistance. Happy Easter to you as well...I have no qualms about releasing my Christianity (see my userbox on the userpage). Anyway, whatever you want to do is fine by me. Thanks for dropping by! Go Phightins! 19:39, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Go Phightins! One of your future adoptees, The Wikimon has called me a role model on my talk page. I'm shocked! In that case...If I've been doing a good job in the adoption course and graduate...can I...maybe...run him through the course? Do you think I'm ready to adopt under close supervision (I.e. you)? It seems like something I'd be interested in doing. After all, I do need practice in the adopt-a-user program. Please remember, don't judge me by my age. (My favorite little essay.) April Fools Day
For the last few days, I have been contemplating what if anything I was going to do on-wiki as an April Fools joke. I thought about blanking my talk page and my user page and slapping a retired template on for a few hours, I thought about opening up an SPI that implicates just about all of my Wiki-Friends, I thought about nominating some article for deletion, but at the end of the day, none of those would do much good, and I would spend time carrying them out that I could be spending trying to get my first featured article, Jim Thome (which if anyone wants to help, I would greatly appreciate, but anyway, back to this rousing soliloquy). So until next year when hopefully I will come up with something creative, I thought I would instead pose a question to my stalkers of whom I am sure there are at least one or two whom I have not alienated in the last few days (more than I can say about those with whom I interact in real life, but again, that's interrupting my terrific monologue). Here's the question: what is the best April Fools joke/prank that you have ever played on someone you know in real life? I look forward to some humorous responses. It's still Easter here in the states, so Happy Easter to all, but looking forward to tomorrow, good luck on any April Fools jokes you may be planning. Your resident lovable cynic, Go Phightins! 01:47, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- A couple of years ago I successfully convinced my dad that President Bush had been assassinated, otherwise I have a pretty poor history with them. When I was in first grade, I tricked my neighbors by telling them I was moving, about a month later, my parents informed me that we really were. I was incredibly mad at myself because I thought it was my fault due to the April Fools joke. Ryan Vesey 01:50, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- One time, I convinced my neighbor to hand me $5 after I threatened them using a painted Nerf gun, but I had to give it back when they threatened to call the cops. It was definitely a painful spanking I got afterwards. ZappaOMati 02:08, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- When I was a teenager, my mother was driving me to high school. My younger brothers were in the car for some reason, and at this difficult turn (because of vegetation it's hard to see), just as my mother eased into the intersection, my youngest brother and myself at the same time, without any coordination, shouted "Look out" at my mother. No one was coming. She nearly flipped the car. It was April Fool's Day.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:09, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Each floor had a slightly different decor. One April Fools I switched stuff from floor to floor and rearranged the pictures and lamps, etc. and, most important, changed the name on the wall to the Accounting firm up on 6. Nice job
Thanks for contacting Geoff. I suspect our emails to him crossed. FWIW, you have exactly the qualities we need in an admin. Let me know if you ever consider it.
Back in the day, there wasn't a WMF process for dealing with threats of violence and it was left to the community. There were only a small crew of us who would contact law enforcement. It takes courage like yours to keep this place safe.
Here, have the smallest barnstar ever: *

- I have been getting several suggestions lately regarding adminship, maybe I oughta consider it :) I have given it some thought and am looking probably to run in the fall. Anyway, this is the man we're looking for as far as their legal counsel. I think Dirtlawyer1 had a good suggestion that a call between him and Geoff might be a good idea. It looks like its just you and me for awhile (The Cream Rises!). If you need anything, just ask. I'll do the same. ```Buster Seven Talk 13:42, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- I had a feeling it'd eventually end up that way; oh well, consensus becomes really simple really fast! I am out of town this weekend, so I will be unable to post the banner until late Sunday afternoon (eastern time). Go Phightins! 19:21, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the Wikipedia Ambassador Program
Hi Go Phightins!!
Congratulations! Your application to join the Wikipedia Education Program as an Online Ambassador has been accepted. We are honored to welcome you the Ambassador team.
The information below is provided to ensure that your new role as an Online Ambassador is a successful one. There are tasks listed, as well as reading material. Please make sure to complete the actions presented below, as quickly as possible.
The Wikipedia Education Program is a relatively new program that is continuing to experience change and transition. Our goal is to be better than we were yesterday. For this reason, please remember to check the education noticeboard often. If you have any questions, please contact myself or one of your fellow Ambassadors.
- Please complete the following, as soon as possible
- Create your Online Ambassador profile.
- If that page is not accessible to you, it means you don't have the online volunteer user right yet. Request it here.
- Leave "Publicly list me as Online Ambassador" checked to have your profile appear in the list of active Online Ambassadors.
- Read and review the Wikipedia Ambassadors Principles;
- If you haven't done so, browse the training for Ambassadors.
- Much of the training material is primarily intended for new Campus Ambassadors who are not experienced Wikipedians. But this introductory material is also used in the training for students and instructors, so you may want to go through it to familiarize yourself with what those users will have seen.
- If you see ways to improve the training, please edit it!
- Browse the list of current courses, and add yourself as an Online Ambassador on the course page for any you would like to help with.
- Be sure to introduce yourself to each instructor to let her/him know you've volunteered.
- Sign up for the Wikipedia Ambassador Program announcements email list.
- This is a very low traffic list for major announcements related to the Wikipedia Education Program program.
Support Structure
Online Ambassadors serve as a vital link in the Wikipedia Education Program, assisting new student editors transition into the Wikipedia editing community. They serve in a leadership role alongside the course instructor; local Campus Ambassador(s), who work with the class in person; and the Regional Ambassador, who checks in periodically with the course to make sure everything is going well. Together, the instructor, Campus Ambassador, Regional Ambassador, and Online Ambassador encompass the course "pod".
The pod is the term we use to refer to the group of individuals that work together to help the students in a particular course successfully contribute to Wikipedia. A prototypical pod might look something like this:
- A professor or course instructor who is fairly new to Wikipedia, leading a class of 20–30 students, who have been assigned to make significant contributions to new or existing articles related to the course subject.
- Two Campus Ambassadors, one of whom is an experienced Wikipedian and one of whom is new to the encyclopedia. The Campus Ambassadors are provided with training to learn the basic policies and guidelines of Wikipedia and how to help students contribute effectively.
- Two Online Ambassadors, one of whom is a moderately experienced Wikipedian, while the other is very experienced. Both have knowledge of community policies and guidelines and are available to provide editing guidance, answer questions, and assistance navigating the community. When needed, Online Ambassadors are also available for one-on-one mentorship.
- One Regional Ambassador, a moderately experienced Wikipedian who coordinates assistance and support for universities and courses based on a large geographical region.
Role and Responsibilities
The list of the responsibilities of the Online Ambassador are presented in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). In essence, the role of the Online Ambassador includes:
- Helping students in your class(es) when they ask for it and answer their questions;
- Serve as a liaison between the professor/student and the community;
- In general, keep an eye out for the students and professors and help them navigate the community;
- Helping students get feedback on their work (whether from you or other editors with an interest in or knowledge of the subject area)
- Be a good example for students, modeling good faith communication and editing practices; and
- Communicating regularly with the other members of your pod regarding the progress of the student, along with any issues that come up.
Online Ambassadors can also assist students that are outside of their pod. Generally, Online Ambassadors represent the Ambassador Program and provide assistance for students whenever encountered. While feedback on the style and formatting of student articles is essential, assistance may also be needed to review the articles substance and content. When needed, the Online Ambassador may request the assistance of WikiProjects that focus on technical issues presented in student articles.
Communication Channels
There are three main places for news, updates, and discussion about Wikipedia Ambassadors and the Wikipedia Education Program:
- Wikipedia:Education noticeboard
- The Wikipedia Ambassador Program announcements list. This is a low-traffic email list that is used for significant announcements that are relevant to the whole program. Please sign up as soon as you get a chance.
- Internet Relay Chat (IRC). If you use IRC, please consider adding #wikipedia-en-ambassadors to your channel lineup.
Future communication tools are being developed. Newsletters about the program or messages for Online Ambassadors may occasionally be delivered to your talk page. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Again, welcome to the Ambassador team! We look forward to working with you! The Interior (Talk) 21:19, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you; I have some reading to do :) Go Phightins! 21:36, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Congratulations! I bow in your general direction. If there is any 'grunt' work you need help with, give me a call.```Buster Seven Talk 01:31, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Buster! I figured this is something where my skills can help; I can't write code for bots, I can't do templates, I can't troubleshoot problems with code, but I do have a working knowledge of the policies and how to do the kind of editing that students will want to do, so I may as well contribute somewhere.
