Please make sure to list the articles you have created or improved in the article achievements' section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked. To be able to claim prizes, please also ensure to list your articles on the users by articles page. We would be awarding prizes to different categories of winners:
- Overall winner
- 1st - $500
- 2nd - $200
- 3rd - $100
- Diversity winner - $100
- Gender-gap filler - $100
- Language Winners - up to $100*
We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!
Thank you once again for being part of this global event! --Jamie Tubers (talk) 10:30, 06 November 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
Hello Gobonobo,
- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.
Rank | Username | Num reviews | Log |
---|---|---|---|

9 | Hughesdarren (talk) | 4,520 | Patrol Page Curation |
10 | Utopes (talk) | 3,958 | Patrol Page Curation |
- Reviewer of the Year
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
- NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

apology for excessive use of capitalization
In two replies to you, I should have used italics instead:
- 5:09 "contact as SHIN"
- 6:37 "is not OR since"
As you can see from the section title "knee AND shin" that was something I was using for emphasis but while that might work for titles not directed at anyone (though I guess italics can be used in title sections too I just wasn't sure how that might affect anchoring) it's something probably especially important to avoid when speaking to other users.
I'm going to go back and strikethru them to acknowledge it was wrong and replace them with italics. WakandaQT (talk) 04:52, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Squatting
Hi Gobonobo could I ask you a question about recent edits on Squatting? An editor has popped up who seems to enjoy conflict and they are repeatedly deleting things and questioning sources. Occasionally this might be legitimate behaviour (even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day) but most of the time I don't understand why they don't just fix it themselves instead trying to provoke drama.
They began to stalk my edits back in October so I made an ANI report which ended in the advice for us to edit different pages which seems logical. They heeded it at first, unfortunately they now are not. This has been pointed out to no avail. The problem now is I don't feel this editor can be fruitfully engaged with and the talkpage is becoming littered with posts which veer into incoherence eg Talk:Squatting#Article_assessment or Talk:Squatting#UK_legality. And it's not limited to this page.
Squatting is a page which does need some stewarding but I'm not here to clean up after other people all the time, I'm much more interested to improve the global perspective of the article. I decided to respond today but there comes a point where this behaviour just seems like trolling, per "The basic mindset of a troll is that they are far more interested in how others react to their edits than in the usual concerns of Wikipedians: accuracy, veracity, comprehensiveness, and overall quality" per WP:TROLL. To take a recent edit, they took out a reference verifying where a project was located and when it was evicted. I'm not quite sure how best to progress, I'm happy to disengage and already did so for a month but since they appear to edit by watchlist then they just keep on returning. Any advice appreciated, thanks! Mujinga (talk) 11:34, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Mujinga. Efforts to improve the global perspective on squatting are much appreciated. My sense is that much of the pushback you're seeing there is due to the quality of sources. Finding quality sources for squats is very difficult, as most sources that cover them are self-published or otherwise considered unreliable. One trick for international topics is to remember that sources in other languages are perfectly acceptable. Something like Caferağa might not have been written up in any reliable sources in English, but there may very well be an article out there in Turkish that would suffice. gobonobo + c 21:01, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answer, I agree on the Caferağa example that better Turkish sources might be found, I also think the present situation is covered by WP:SELFSOURCE. I don't think sources can be blamed for the repeated deletion of information about Moldova, as discussed at Talk:Squatting#Moldova. Any feedback there would be welcome. Mujinga (talk) 13:47, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- The debate continues at Talk:Squatting#Kibera_/_Smith and Talk:Squatting#MacSimoin. Anyway, I was wondering do you have any suggestions for WP:SQUAT in 2021? Cheers! Mujinga (talk) 16:10, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

On 20 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hannah J. Patterson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Hannah J. Patterson and other suffragists hauled a replica of the Liberty Bell across Pennsylvania to gain the right to vote? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hannah J. Patterson. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hannah J. Patterson), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Thank you Raggachampiongirl. I enjoyed the Zoom edit-a-thon quite a bit and started an article for Nyeema Morgan. I hope I can contribute to Black Lunch Table events in the future. If anyone needs help with articles, feel free to send them my way. I had hoped someone would start an article for Ta-coumba Aiken. It looks like Laflaneuse has a draft. Maybe next time. gobonobo + c 16:39, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Couple Nyeema Morgan sources
Did a quick search through my library and found these. Hope it's helpful.
NYTimes in 2009, which describes the political value and context of her work.
Star Tribune in 1996 has an article that I could only access through Nexis; send me an email through Wikipedia and I can forward the article to you. It describes a mural she was selected to work on. Not in-depth but could be added to the list of her projects. Would add it myself but I don't really understand the artist area of WP, so will avoid. Urve (talk) 15:55, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you Urve. Spooky, I was just now incorporating that Star Tribune reference. gobonobo + c 16:04, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, excellent. Urve (talk) 16:06, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Your searches are much appreciated. Got the other one included too. I'll be doing an overhaul of the article later today so that it'll be ready for DYK. gobonobo + c 16:39, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, excellent. Urve (talk) 16:06, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Rescuing Aunt Jemima
Why in the world were you finding wayback links for articles that are fairly recent? These didn't need any rescuing. Also, when archive links are added, the access-date parameter should be removed as the archive date supercedes (according to the documentation).
William Allen Simpson (talk) 14:03, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- @William Allen Simpson: Archive links are added to references to prevent WP:LINKROT. Running IABot also allows me to see which sources haven't yet been archived. Even some of the more recent sources will sometimes go offline. We just had a 40-year old paper go completely offline in my city. Regardless, we'll want them there eventually anyway. I've removed the superfluous access dates. gobonobo + c 15:01, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
