RE: Hands Resist Him[edit]

I removed the link because it was inapropriate in it's placement. Wikipedia articles are not supposed to contain links of mentions of article topics. Technically, all such lists are supposed to be deleted and when they become contentious, they often are summarily deleted. I removed it because it seemed likely that it's inclusion in the first place was an act of self-promotion. If you are, however, not involved with the film in any way, you may want to add in a properly worded statement of fact that the film features the painting and in what capacity. Then, you you can link to the film's web page as a reference for the fact you are asserting. That would be the proper and encyclopedic way to do it. Wikpedia articles are meant to convey, first and foremost, information about their subjects and not a series of links to tangentially related matter. I hope this clears things up. Regarding your thanks - you're most welcome. A good rule of thumb for edits is to try and remember that whenever you can, phrase the information you want included as a statement of fact and use the link you want to include as the citation that backs that fact up. It makes it less likely that a real hard-line editor who comes along will delete it if he/she sees an offsite link to a film and concludes that it had to be put there as self-promotion. I'm not actually a deletionist or a hard-line editor but articles on the paranormal can quickly accumulate lists of mentions in this that or the other thing. As a rational skeptic, I feel paranormal articles deserve space but we have some activist skeptics who would like to see all articles on small but interesting (to some) subjects such as the painting be deleted. When paranormal articles start collecting odd bits of trivia or what is perceived as self-promotion, they use that as an excuse to nominate the article for deletion.

It took me a while to get a handle on the ever-changing preferred methods of citing facts and data and I still don't get it right all the time so don't be discouraged. if you need help inserting references to support facts you'd like included elsewhere, leave me a message on my talk page with the link and what you'd you'd like to say in what article and I'll try and help.LiPollis (talk) 12:39, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm willing to unblock you (your name suggests that you are Calvo himself), but I'd like to request that you not edit articles about yourself or your own movies. The reason for this is that because you have a strong conflict of interest, some of your edits have come across as somewhat promotional in tone. For example, in one of the articles you appear to cherry pick quotes out of a review to make things seem as positive as possible, hence the promotion angle since you obviously benefit from having the reviews appear as positive as possible. I'm going to try to add sourcing and such where I can, but I can't caution you enough about editing articles about yourself- a few of people have done this and received a lot and I repeat a LOT of criticism about editing their own articles. I hope I don't sound overly harsh when I say that, but people have received a lot of backlash about things of that nature. You can still do small edits like tweaking dates and adding images, but offhand adding reviews to your articles should be something that you avoid.
