RFA 2021 Completed

The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.

The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:

  1. Revision of standard question 1 to Why are you interested in becoming an administrator? Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation.
  2. A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Thanks to all the editors who contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the discussion of how to implement this proposal.
  3. Removal of autopatrol from the administrator's toolkit. Special thanks to Wugapodes and Seddon for their help with implementation.

The following proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration:

  1. An option for people to run for temporary adminship (proposal, discussion, & close)
  2. An optional election process (proposal & discussion and close review & re-close)

Editors who wish to discuss these ideas or other ideas on how to try to address any of the six issues identified during phase 1 for which no proposal gained are encouraged to do so at RFA's talk page or an appropriate village pump.

A final and huge thanks all those who participated in this effort to improve our RFA process over the last 4 months.

This is the final update with no further talk page messages planned.

Even if AWB suggests incorrect edits (possibly because it didn't recognise {{dab}} as an abbreviation of {{disambiguation}}, it is your responsibility not to make those incorrect edits. A disambiguation page should almost always be an orphan (except sometimes for a redirect from a hatnote), and cannot, by definition, be a stub, so should not be tagged as either of these. Module status: Military conflict infobox?

Do you know the current status of Module:Infobox military conflict/sandbox? I see you restored Izno's version from Dec. but there are still unresolved diffs with the primary. Are there changes currently staged or underway in sandbox or can I test some edits there? --N8 23:12, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

User:N8wilson I was testing something unrelated, and decided to leave the sandbox as I found it. You would have to ask Izno if they have plans for what is already there. — Goszei (talk) 00:09, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

N8wilson My version pertains to the discussion at Template talk:Infobox military conflict#I18n. I didn't chase it any further, but someone could probably do so pretty easily. Izno (talk) 03:49, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Clarification of reverts

Hi, I just wanted to clarify my reverts at Green Line Extension and a few other pages. In many government documents, pages are numbered by chapter and page, thus page 1-5 (and 5-1) are valid page numbers. Is there a better way to indicate that in {{rp}} so it doesn't get confused with page ranges? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:25, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

User:Pi.1415926535 My bad, it seems like a false positive that AWB struggles with. I believe that putting {{Not a typo}} around the page number in those cases will prevent semi-automated tools from picking it up. — Goszei (talk) 21:53, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The workaround mentioned here might help. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:12, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you! I've added the {{hyphen}} trick to those articles and will use it from now on. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:27, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, you have recently made edits to articles without providing any edit summary to explain your intentions. This wastes the time of other editors who are checking for vandalism. Please make sure you provide summaries for your edits. Many thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:25, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Oath at the Olympic Games

Hello! Can you add parameters for the Olympic Oath for both athletes and judges those are very important things to add. Mainly because those pledges are used by athletes and judges during the Opening Ceremonies see if you can do that. Yours sincerely, Sondre --88.88.4.178 (talk) 14:48, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Persian village fix

Hi I was looking at old bot requests, and I saw Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive_82#Minor fix in Persian village articles that you posted still seems needed to be done. I thought I'd get User:Galobot to do it. I noticed {{lang-fa}} has a translit parameter, so I was thinking to replace e.g (Persian: سگري, also Romanized as Sagarī) with (Persian: سگري, romanizedSagarī). Thoughts? Galobtter (pingó mió) 03:52, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure that will work, since many of the articles have multiple romanizations given (see Beleh Kabud or Gowhar Chaqa, for example). Thanks for taking interest in this. — Goszei (talk) 03:55, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

Article - Massin Kevin Labidi

Hi Goszei, I'm writing to you regarding your recent changes on article "Massin Kevin Labidi". Can you please let me know what orphan tag is and how to fix it? as per my understanding it's related to links referrals and that is already available on this page. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and thank you for your contribution to this article it's greatly appreciated. Dineee90 (talk) 10:28, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

The orphan tag means that no other article links to that article. Anyone can remove the tag once a link is added (either by finding an article that mentions him and linking it, or adding his name and link to a relevant article). — Goszei (talk) 20:32, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Party infobox template

Why did you change the country-section of the template? The previous version looked much better, and it seems nothing practical was gained by changing it. Now the country-section often looks like what the ideology-section does whenever there are wrapping ideologies present, in other words it looks messy! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 22:43, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

In my opinion, the horizontal list makes the purpose of the last two links more immediately understandable to readers. The links to the "Political parties" and "Elections" articles, which are given without stating the country, are really sub-topics of the first "Politics of [country]" link, and so I feel an hlist better represents this connection compared to having a new line for each (it also reduces the WP:EASTEREGG effect). If you like, I will revert the change and start a talk page discussion to seek consensus. — Goszei (talk) 00:03, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:John Wayne Gacy 1978 mugshot.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:John Wayne Gacy 1978 mugshot.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

On 19 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Fu-Go balloon bomb, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Vladimir Lenin: Lead changes and talk consensus

Hi @Goszei,

I thought you made a number of constructive changes to the lead paragraph on the Lenin's main page including:

>Highlighting his political theories on party, imperialism, state and revolution.

>Key details during his administration such as the "April Theses", war communism, conflict with other pro-independent forces.

>Perception of his legacy among supporters and detractors. I think you made a valid point on the fact that some of Lenin's critics viewed his government as authoritarian (party dictatorship during wartime conditions) and differed in nature from Stalin's regime which is near-universally viewed as totalitarian (personal dictatorship of one individual).

However, all of your changes have been reverted by Midnightblueowl due to the perceived added length to the paragraph and confusion associated with the recent edits. I think it would be worth you adding a talk discussion proposing that we keep the recent lead additions and gain a consensus. WikiUser4020 (talk) 04:29, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

I've been rather busy lately, but I will chime in to build consensus for my changes if a thread is opened. Ping me if it happens. — Goszei (talk) 23:02, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
@Goszei I'm planning on winding down my editing activities over the coming months. I'll open a thread soon and hopefully you can build on that. I'm not sure if an RfC is needed for this type of change ? (What are your thoughts ?) WikiUser4020 (talk) 15:41, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
