You may have noticed that my contributions are limited for the moment at the lists of extreme age mothers.

The subject having indeed interested me after discussions

- with a college girlfriend who was become mother at only 14 years ½,
- then with my step-sister, herself fallen pregnant when she was just turned 18,

I made, in a workbook, an inventory (with, as much as possible, detailed articles and photographies) of :

- not less than 350 mothers under 12 years, whom nearly 60 cases under 10 years,
- over 450 more or less famous 12 or 13 years old mothers, though these, are, I admit, much more frequent,
- almost 100 famous cases, also, of girls under 14, half under 12, having been aborted or lost their precocious pregnancy,
- nearly 50 grandmothers under 30 years, and around 25 great-grandmothers under 52 years,

- and, conversely, more of 170 mothers over 50 years, including 8 really extreme cases beyond 70 years.

Most of my translations is done by "Google Translation" or "Reverso.net", and these aren't always reliable references !...

Translation[edit]

Hi,

I've noticed that you've added a lot of entries to List of youngest birth mothers. However, I've also noticed that:

The English is done by a very low-quality machine translator
The entries from Spanish and Portuguese references have a lot of inaccuracies

I'd like to point you towards the Wikipedia Machine Translation Project, which gives some helpful guidelines on how to use machine translators. Though it deals mainly with translating entire articles, it has some key points:

"An unedited machine translation...is worse than nothing."
"Don't just start translating texts and waiting for people to fix them."

If you find it hard to write in English, you could first write what you want in French, then use your knowledge of English grammar and syntax, along with a dictionary (WordReference.com is a really good one) to translate sentence by sentence. If you're still having a tough time, you could also post the French version on the talk page and ask someone to translate it. An added advantage of writing it first in French is that you can also paste your work into the corresponding article in the French Wikipedia (or make a new article there it there isn't one).

For the second point, I would highly recommend posting the reference on the talk page and asking someone who knows language it's written in to either write an entry based on it or to translate the page for you. I've checked the way Google Translate works on some of the Spanish references, and it's really horrible. I'd be happy to translate Spanish references for you (and Portuguese, since the two are extremely close).

Super-long "List of youngest birth mothers" redux[edit]

Hi,

I notice you keep pasting-over the List of youngest birth mothers article. While it's cool that you're so dedicated to improving the article, pasting over deletes many of the copy edits that I made. It would be a lot simpler for you to just add the extra information in manually.

I'd like to take you through one the the entries sentence-by-sentence to show what changes you made by pasting over and how could have made them instead. Take a look at this "diff". I'm going to focus right now on the entry for the 11-year-old from São Fracisco de Assis.

An 11-year-old girl from São Francisco de Assis, Rio Grande do Sul gave birth to a boy weighing 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) at Santo António Hospital...On July 22, she complained of abdominal pains which didn't yield to her mother's remedies.^{[failed verification]}

An 11-year-old girl from São Francisco de Assis, Rio Grande do Sul, gave birth to a 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) boy, at Santo António Hospital, in July 2011 Ignoring her condition, she complained of abdominal pains which didn't yield to her mother's remedies ; taken to the hospital, she gave birth in the evening.

All right...You re-added a comma (incorrectly) after "Rio Grande do Sul". The sentence was already quite long, but you turned it into a run-on: I'm not sure if you wanted it to be one sentence or two because there's no dividing fullstop. "in July 2012" is unnecessary (as I said, the sentence was already long), especially because we already told the user what date the child was born.

Now, the second sentence is a bit better grammatically, but it's factually inaccurate. However, the citation you used to justify this statement made no mention of herbal remedies; unless you managed to find a new citation, there was no justification in removing the {{failed verification}} tag.

Even if you had just wanted to move that sentence over, you could have done so without pasting over the entire entry.

She had been sexually assaulted by a man who lived close to her school.

Out of shame, she had not revealed that she was sexually assaulted twice: once by three classmates, and the second time by a family close, inmate in permission whose mother lives near her school.

You used the same citation as before; however, almost none of the information you wrote was actually given in the citation. There was no verification that the girl had been sexually assaulted twice. Take a look at this sentence:

...A polícia também trabalhava com a hipótese de que a criança-mãe poderia ter sido vítima dos colegas de sua escola. O delegado não revelou o nome da pessoa talvez para proteger a imagem da menina.

which translates to:

Police also suspected that the young mother had been a victim of her schoolmates [from school]. The deputy has not revealed or named the person, perhaps the protect the young girl's image.

Note that I did not use a machine translator. I used a dictionary.

Also, the biological father was never referred to as a family friend.

She was taken to the hospital and gave birth that evening. DNA test established the 22-year-old man as the father

Teenagers excluded from paternity and left free because of their impunity given their less than 13 years, DNA has confounded, late November following, the individual incarcerated in prison.

I'm sorry, but this is almost unintelligible. However, I do know that citation you used made no mention of teenagers (adolecentes in Portuguese). There is one sentence that mentions a DNA test:

Um exame de DNA no Laboratório de Perícias do Instituto Geral de Perícias em Porto Alegre identificou o pai biológico do bebê, que teve a prisão preventiva decretada.

which says:

A DNA test from the Specialized Laboratory from the General Specialists Institute in Porto Alegra identified the biological father of the baby, who was sentenced to preventative detention.

Again, the man was never referred to as a family friend. Instead, he was identified as um homem numa casa próxima da escola onde estudava ("a man in a house close to the school where she studied").

...

He had benefited a day of leave in previous late November 2010, and, his mother living next to her school, had drawn the daughter of his relatives at his home after class, and raped her, enjoying being alone with her.

The sentence is extremely difficult to understand, and it's also not true, which is why I had deleted it in the first place. The article you cited was the exact same as the article in the previous citation.

I'm not going to do this for every entry, but you get the idea. I've reverted the changes you made and ask that you please add extra information in manually.
