St Josephs Boys AFC[edit]

Hi Graeme,

I'm trying to add a page on Wikipedia for St Josephs Boys AFC. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Submissions/St_Josephs_Boys_AFC&action=history

The club is already mentioned in several pages on Wikipedia itself, and could be mentioned on 10's of pages if not more.

I tried to resubmit it (see this list) but again in vain.

It comes up with 97 links on www.google.ie with this search: "josephs boys" football -deaf

It is a club with 800 members and is well known in footballing circles in Ireland.

I guess it comes down to what is deemed to be "significant" or not for inclusion in an online encyclopdia, but given the wide range of soccer clubs already on the website, why would this one be declined?

Thanks.

M.

Normally 90 google hits would count as non notable for a current organisation. If you can find secondary or third party sources covering the team, put in the url or newspaper page etc so that we can see that other people are taking notice apart from the team members themselves. Hi Graeme,

Thanks for your prompt response. There are certainly plenty of 3rd party sources covering what the club has done, for example:

http://www.dublinpeople.com/content/view/990/59/ http://www.dublinpeople.com/content/view/377/59/ http://www.dublinpeople.com/content/view/1184/59/ http://www.dlrcoco.ie/sports/news_joeyswin.html http://www.soccerscene.ie/p886.html http://www.braywanderers.ie/How_To_Join_Joeys.724.0.html http://indigo.ie/~bvr/Under15report.htm http://www.ddsl.ie/index.cfm/loc/4-5.htm http://www.independent.ie/sport/mcshane-186991.html http://www.drogheda-independent.ie/sport/other-sports/drogheda-boys-hit-st-joe146s-for-six-771224.html http://www.a2zsoccer.com/index.cfm/loc/3/fuseaction/showsummary/hostorg_id/3076442/season_id/3076512/divn_id/3076532/league_id/3076510/legtyp_id/3076451/agediv_id/3076516

I could find more. I can assure you that the club is well known within footballing circles in Dublin and in Ireland.

By the way, in comparison to other clubs already on Wikipedia, such as Cuala, the club is as big and is equally as known.

Over to you .....

Are any of these reliable sources, at least you seem to have found quite a few. The normal criteria for a sports club is that it is professional, but amateurs could potentially be notable. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:09, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graeme,

Yes, they are reliable sources.

dublinpeople.com is the online version of a newspaper publication dlrcoco.ie is Dun Laoire Rathdown county council and is one of the 4 regional authorities for Dublin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_of_Dun_Laoghaire-Rathdown). braywanderers.ie are a professional football club in the top flight of the league of Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bray_Wanderers) ddsl.ie is the Dublin and District Schoolboys League independent.ie is the webiste of Independent Newspapers, a multi-billion edi company quoted on the irish stock market and part owner (41%) of APN newspapers in Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_News_and_Media) drogheda-independent.ie is a regional newspaper title and part of the Independent media group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drogheda_Independent)

The club is not professional in the sense that the players are youths from the ages of 6 up to 18. Players do register officially and when signed from the club when they join professional clubs, such as Manchester United(eg: Paul McShane), the club nowadays will receive a transfer fee. The club is ran as a company, so files accounts, etc, and is in that sense professionally ran. Company Number 338866 (source: www.cro.ie).

The intention of the wikipedia page is not to advertise the club or anything like that, but to be objective information. I am not involved in running the club.

Thanks,

Hi Graeme: I am trying to create a company overview for Volicon, Inc and have had my entry deleted twice due to ambiguous advertising or promotion. Since I was assuming this could be created since there are hundreds of company overview sites, how can I get this page published?
