The simpsons hit and run

I have been working on a much better version of The Simpsons Hit and Run for some time now and it almost ready for upload. However someone recently added the titles and purposes of missions in the Plot section. I can't decide if it's a useless piece of trivia and wether I should include it in my newer version. Your thoughts? --Simpsons fan 66 11:23, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Excellent, thanks for your opinion. That will save me the tedious task of ammassing the mission names. I have mainly revamped the text, adding large sections. Once the plot is finished it will be ready for upload. Unfortunately I only own the game on PS2, making the procurement of screenshots next to impossible. Do you own the game on PC? --Simpsons fan 66 23:03, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I have uploaded a test version of The Simpsons Hit and Run here. As you will see I have only really changed the text, adding new sections and expanding the plot. It doesn't have any references or pictures, which I hope to remedy later on. Could you please give it a look and add any suggestions on the page's disscusion page with your signature? I really appreciate your opinion. --Simpsons fan 66 23:30, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Table

Add episode numbers, and a note/description column and it would be perfect. There's a template for that on the talk page somewhere. -- Scorpion0422 16:12, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Just an update, I've finally started formatting the Sideshow Bob character section, and it is in prose form here. -- Scorpion0422 16:52, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I think the big concern right now is the "Role in The Simpsons" section. Would you mind doing that? You did a fantastic job with the section for Troy McClure, so you're better than I am. I'll try and dig up some refs for a Cultural Influence section. As well, I'm not sure where the things like Grammer's emmy win belong. Perhaps there should be a Reception AND Cultural Influence section. -- Scorpion0422 21:57, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I found something you could use for the Hank Azaria page: [1] -- Scorpion0422 18:42, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Your Help?

Since no one responded to my request here, would you like to help, or do you think it is too much work, and we shouldn't bother? Ctjf83 19:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

You may have read the wrong one...i was refering to the one where on the couch gags, and the chalkboard gags it has the production codes, but they aren't actually linked to the episodes. It would be nice to be able to click on the code, and link it to the episode. Whats your thoughts? Ctjf83 23:27, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Well would you like to take the time to help me change it all? Ctjf83 18:37, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good...but, like you said previously, it would be alot better with episode titles, rather than a link from production code to the episode page...so let's change the prod. code to the actually name...sound good? Ctjf83 18:51, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Just wondering how your coming...I'm done Ctjf83 22:00, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Post-Sideshow Bob

So, what do you want to work on next? We could try and get Sideshow Bob to FA status (it would need more cultural influence), or we could start something new. I chose to do Bob, so it's your turn to pick. As a small side project, I will be working on List of awards won by The Simpsons and I'll model it after List of U2 awards, but the big issue is sourcing as there are several well-known awards (ie. EMAs) with few RSs. I also told Alientraveller I'd work on Deep Space Homer, but I've yet to start. -- Scorpion0422 16:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

We haven't done a location yet, but something like Springfield or Springfield's state would be immensely hard to do. For now, I'll just work on the awards page. -- Scorpion0422 17:56, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
That is a ways off, but it is possible. I've been working on the awards page, abd it's looking pretty good. Could you take a look at the page and let me know what you think of the format? I have most of the major awards fully sourced, I just have to find sources for & add the minor ones. There are some I have chosen not to include, you can find a list here (as well as a complete, more update list here), and I was wondering if you could take a look and let me know if you think anything should be included. Basically, my inclusion criteria was any award with a Wikipedia page, but I'm open to anything with a reliable source. -- Scorpion0422 19:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I've decided to only have tables for awards that The Simpsons has had more than 10 nominations for and if there are enough reliable sources... The Simpsons has been nominated for tonnes of Kids' Choice awards, but I could only find sources for past 2003. So, the rest of the awards go in prose form in the "other awards" section.
I am a little concerned about an FLC, because I had to cheat for some of them and use IMDB, such as the EMA awards, and which individual episode was nominated for an Emmy. If it comes down to it, we can use the commentaries as a source for which episode was submitted for an Emmy, but we will have trouble finding sources for the EMAs. For now, I'm going to leave it and if anyone brings it up, I'll remove the early three noms and just use the source that says the show won 6. -- Scorpion0422 19:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm done with sourcing and I think the page is close to being ready, could you take another look? Thanks, Scorpion0422 16:13, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
An image of Bart and Milhouse talking? -- Scorpion0422 21:16, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Question

Gran? I ask for a favour, but only if you agree. Unlike the last person I asked, I was completely ignored. I am attempting to expand episodes, such as my most recent peice of work ("Kill Gil: Vols. 1 & 2"), by remodelling the page such as adding a "reception", or "reference" section, and removing the "trivia" section. I want to expand upon other episodes, and I come to you to see if what I'm doing is okay, and what Wikiproject:The Simpsons, wishes for. Regardless, I eagerly await for your reply. Thanks!,

- Yours truly, Superior(talk) 00:15, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You nominated a current WP:FLC. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:20, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Controversial episodes of The Simpsons?

This was an idea I had and it might be worth a try as we could have a really good well-sourced page, but the big problem is it could lead to a tonne of POV because how do you define controversial? Upset some fans? Blasted by critics? Caused a big stir among the production staff? Every time I try to think of episodes that were truly controversial and were acknowledged by the staff and mentioned in several reliable sources I usually only get a few - Streetcar Named Marge, City of New York vs. Homer Simpson, Blame it on Lisa, The Principal and the Pauper and maybe a couple of others. What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 17:44, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

What do you think of the new character infobox? I figured the first Simpsons and first Ullman appearances should be noted seperately, although it sucks that every character now has to have the appearances in a different section. But, the only other option was to have a completely different infobox for the Ullman characters, which I didn't want to do. -- Scorpion0422 20:40, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
I also almost added a "First speaking appearance" column to the infobox too, but I decided against it because I don't think there are enough characters that warrant it. As for the "first line" thing, it would spawn a lot of edit wars over things like "are Ullman shorts included?" "How long a first line?" "Do grunts/squeaks count?" "____ wasn't actually seen in that episode, just their voice was" "Maggie's first line was 'Moe', not 'Daddy'" and so on and so forth. The age column brought forth so many edit wars that I just got sick of it and removed it, and it would probably be the same here. -- Scorpion0422 21:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Wow. There are a lot of Harry Potter pages about subjects that would be considered cruft if they existed for The Simpsons... Anyway, I guess a controversies page is worth a shot. I'll eventually start work on it here. -- Scorpion0422 21:40, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Season 9

It appears that the season 9 FT drive has gained some momentum and now I have set up a season 9 page here. It will be considerably harder than season 8, but it's worth a shot. -- Scorpion0422 01:40, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

userboxes

Hi. I suggest that you put <includeonly> and </includeonly> tags around your User:Gran2/Userboxes page. This will stop your name from appearing twice in categories that those boxes put you in. After adding them, your subpage will look empty, but the userboxes will still appear on your main userpage. Thanks for your time. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 19:42, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Smithers

I decided to work on a character, and I randomly chose one out of a hat and I ended up with Smithers. I've been taking a crack at a "Role in The Simpsons" section and I was wondering if you could take a look at it? I've got several other things in the works, so this will be a slow gradual project and I'll occasionally improve the article over a period of time. -- Scorpion0422 01:47, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help, I'll give the commentaries another listen later. I still have yet to listen to Homer the Smithers, so hopefully I can get some good stuff from that. Anyway, I think the page needs a some more refs for the reception and possibly a cultural influences section. We can add info about action figures to the page. -- Scorpion0422 22:12, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Cartridge Family

Yeah, I'll see what I can find. Zagalejo^^^ 04:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Here's some information for The Cartridge Family:
  • The episode was included in the Herald Sun's list of top twenty episodes. ("The Simpsons Top 20". Herald Sun. 21 April 2007. pg. w09.) It doesn't have any juicy quotes, though; just a brief plot synopsis.
  • It was named the fifth best article by The Florida Times-Union. (Nancy McAlister. "A sassy 'SIMPSONS' celebration; Fox hits a Homer as it broadcasts the 300th episode of the animated sitcom tonight". The Florida Times Union. 16 February 2003. pg. D1.) Again, though, it's mostly a plot synopsis.
  • An article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette mentions the episode: "The episode dealing with gun rights -- 'The Cartridge Family' -- makes 'The Simpsons' the only sitcom in memory to treat gun control with any fairness." (Jonah Goldberg. "The Simpsons: Bedrock American Values". Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. 14 May 2000. pg. E1.)
That's pretty much all I've found so far that isn't already in the article, but I haven't checked all my databases yet. Note that there is a band called the Cartridge Family, but they are not named after the episode - their name is a reference to video game cartridges.
I'll look for Principal and the Pauper stuff soon. Zagalejo^^^ 06:21, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Screenshots

What do you use to take screenshots of Simpsons episodes...if you do? I just used VLC media player, and don't really like it, and windows media player doesn't work Ctjf83 21:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello Cran. It seems that you are temporarily finished with the Cartridge Family, nice! I was wondering, could you possibly write me a production section for This Little Wiggy? I have the vital information I heard from the commentary on the talk page of the season 9 drive page. This would be great if you can! Thanks. ✗iℎi✗(talk) 00:36, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, I did it myself. ✗iℎi✗(talk) 05:45, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

History of The Simpsons?

I just discovered this page and I was wondering if perhaps we should consider making one for The Simpsons. I would be willing to bet that we could make a long, interesting and well-sourced page. However, this issue here is the same as my issue with a "Controversial episodes of The Simpsons" page - is it necessary? The Simpsons is already a pretty good page and it isn't that long, so it's not a case of needing to split up a page. As well, I'm not sure of what kind of stuff we could add other than its creation. I think a page like that would just seem like sourced cruft and possibly giving undue weight to minor details. What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 04:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't mean to butt in, but I don't think that page would be necessary. The article that you showed for Family Guy is being discussed on whether or not to merge with the main Family Guy page. And, the necessary and vital information about the history of The Simpsons is already covered on it's main page, too. ✗iℎi✗(talk) 05:50, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Smithers voice

Do you have any idea who (if anyone) Harry Shearer based Smithers voice on? I looked through every Harry Shearer interview linked at snpp (most don't work anymore) and Smithers isn't even mentioned. -- Scorpion0422 19:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

I went and nominated the page for GAC. An image of Harry Shearer would be nice, and I checked flickr for one, and there are some that have free licenses, but none with permission for commercial use. Are there any other places for free images? -- Scorpion0422 02:43, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
I finished the Role in The Simpsons section for Flanders, but I think it could use some more stuff about his religion. Could you take a look at it? Thanks, Scorpion0422 16:28, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

I've also been cleaniong up the Kwik-E-Mart page. It still needs a creation section, but it's coming along nicely. What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 15:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I listened to the commentaries for several Apu episodes and I found nothing. I'm going to nominate the page and keep looking on the internet for interviews or something. With all of the Kwik-E-Mart stories in the media as of late, at least ONE has to have some info about its origins. -- Scorpion0422 21:02, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Naegle, the whole commentary people said it was her first appearance, and Scully elaborated a little on it. But, I see that she also appeared in that episode, which is weird. If you want to remove it, though, you can, but it was said.✗iℎi✗(talk) 21:10, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

X-Men cast list

Thoughts on structuring the page? User:Alientraveller/X-Men cast. Alientraveller 15:07, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the encouraging thought, but I found it hard. So many allegiances switch during the films, and Mystique complicates matters. I got some other queries on the talk page. Alientraveller 15:52, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Help

Hey, do you have I Can't Believe It's a Bigger and Better Updated Unofficial Simpsons Guide? If so, can you tell me what they say about "Bart Carny" I need to add stuff to the reception section of that article. Thanks, Ctjf83 00:31, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

"Realty Bites" also please Ctjf83 00:54, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for your helpful comments at Blind Ambition (Family Guy), I think we all got a little annoyed at each other, nothing we can't put behind us ). Anyway, again — I'd like to thank you for your helpful comments, I will be taking up the necessary work on this article, and I hope to get it up to good article status sometime (I think it will be the first Family Guy article to reach GA, however hopefully not the last...). I look forward to speaking and working with you. Cheers, and thanks again, Qst 14:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Most things taken care of, unfortunately I cannot find any notable reception availabe, so that section may have to remain non-existent. Qst 15:06, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I've been working on cleaning up the main Treehouse of Horror episode page and I had wanted to include a list of episodes, shorts, writers and directors, but in order to do it properly, it would take up a lot of room. So, I created a page for it, and if I can find sources for the later episodes, I intend to try to get the page to FL status. It currently has some sources, and several blanks in the writer column for where I couldn't find specific writers. What do you think of the page right now? And what do you think of the name? I wasn't sure if adding "The Simpsons" was necessary, but I did it because otherwise it looks like "Treehouse of Horror" is its own series. -- Scorpion0422 16:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, GuruAskew (talk · contribs) has been trying to add an obscure reference without a source to Treehouse of Horror XVIII and has been reverting just about every edit I make to the page. Perhaps you could leave a message on his talk page confirming what I've been telling him so that he will see that an experienced editor agrees with me. Other than that, it's been a boring few days. The Joy of Sect is an FAC and has hit a small snag, as a user has been vehemently opposing it, and rather suspiciously it's the same user that was upset with the number of Simpsons FAs. Some more article updates: I've been trying to work on Smithers' page for a potential FAC, but the LGBT project folks have been protesting me every time I try to remove something that refers to Smithers being gay, the Flanders page is coming along but I think I've milked the commentaries for as much as they're gonna give me (and it isn't as much as I'd hoped), I added some stuff to Moe's page, I've been grabbing commentary info for Kang & Kodos and the THOH pages, and THOH 18 was an embarassingly bad episode. That's about all. -- Scorpion0422 16:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I've made some huge changes to The Simpsons Halloween episodes (and proposed a page move, so check out the talk page) so could you take a look? It's still a work in progress and there are several sections I'm yet to expand, but the production and Traditions sections are about 90% complete. As well, I've gotten into several debates with people who seem to think that every single reference to Smithers being gay should be included on his page, specifically the one where he is (supposedly) in the gay pride parade in the "in the closet" float. I think that the Role section focuses too much on his sexuality as it is and already establishes that he is possibly gay, so there really is no reason to dive into specific jokes. After all, it is supposed to just be a section about his role in the show. Either way, could you take a look at the debate here? Thanks, Scorpion0422 20:50, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

LOTD proposal

You either voted on the original list of the day proposal or the revised version. A more modest experimental proposal is now at issue at WP:LOTDP. Feel free to voice your opinion.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 17:39, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Jack Sparrow

That image would need some cropping, hopefully you'll oblige? I'm unsure myself of how soon it should be on the main page. Thanks anyway for giving your support to the article. Alientraveller 17:57, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks mate. How was Ratatouille for you? You going to see Beowulf by the way? Alientraveller 20:29, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for wasting your time, the image turned out to be a copyright violation. Alientraveller 11:40, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

THOH III

I have been working on THOH III and battling a steady stream of IP address edits. I think it is almost ready for nomination, but I would like your opinion. I would also like to remove the bullet points from the cultural references but I think it makes it look like a large clump of information. What should I do? --Simpsons fan 66 22:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

TSM DVD

I'm sure you'll be getting it for Christmas or that you've probably pre-ordered it, but don't you think it's lame it's only got six deleted scenes? There's got a double-dip soon. In co-operating on this article, are you willing to get the short end or will you wait for every avaliable source? I'm unsure now if I'll wait or nab it. Alientraveller 21:09, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Apparantly the film was one of 12 movies that made the Academy Award shortlist for best animated movie. If a Reliable source could be found, would this be worth noting? -- Scorpion0422 19:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
You're probably right, but I am concerned that it might not even get nominated, especially with Bee Movie getting good reviews. I can't see Shrek 3 not getting nominated, even though it got worse reviews than the Rat thing, TSM and Bee Movie. Either way, it would be the ultimate irony if a film directed by Brad Bird beat The Simpsons Movie. -- Scorpion0422 19:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Well done on that cast list. And it would be ironic if Bird beat his colleagues to the Oscar: maybe they would share for old time's sake. Alientraveller 22:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I've found and implemented the CS! interview with Zimmer. The music section feels a bit odd. Should we throw out the UK chart stuff? Alientraveller 22:07, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

So, do you have the DVD? When do you plan to implement it and the FAC? Over Christmas I presume? Thanks for the X-Men FL support by the way. Alientraveller (talk) 19:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Exxxcellent. What do you think of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull poster by the way? Alientraveller (talk) 21:40, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Now that I'm thinking a bit more, animated films are quite different from live action films, so perhaps all the cut stuff should remain in editing. Some more paragraphs wouldn't hurt, and always remember, we're not being indiscriminate. Alientraveller (talk) 21:44, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Just wow. I look forward to when you have all that information down. Funnily enough, I learn of Edward Norton's cut cameo when I watched "The Great Money Caper". It just looks fantastic, truly, I'll get some other editors to have a look at it. I'm very humbled you consider me your main collaborator in your masterpiece. Alientraveller (talk) 22:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

There's no real specific rules, every award is notable I guess, just as every newspaper/magazine critic is ok. I'd like very minor noms though to the awards list. You'll find it'll all work out once every award is won or lost. Alientraveller (talk) 16:12, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Pfff, people are already trumpeting that being Golden Globe-nominated is more important than being an animated comedy based on a TV series... Alientraveller (talk) 17:23, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I knew it! Hank Scorpio was going to be the villain! Alientraveller (talk) 15:09, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey. I'm a bit busy, so I can't, but can you fixed up Realty Bites? You just have to fix the references and add ones that Ctjf83 didn't, because I'm afraid it won't pass the GA otherwise. It's only the book reference thats missing and the Simpsons site you can use for the two plot references. Also, a fixing of the BBC reference. xihix(talk) 00:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Never mind, I fixed it... xihix(talk) 04:11, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Simpsons awards

I didn't realize that keeping the List of awards won by The Simpsons would be such a difficult task. We're entering awards season, but I can't seem to find much in the way of news sites. I've tried Simpsons Channel, IMDB (the awards page is hideously out of date) and even NoHomers (I didn't realize you were a member there), but none of them have had much... The only reason I discovered the Aussie kids choice awards and People's Choice noms is because I routinely check what links to The Simpsons (in hopes of weeding out useless pages) and I saw those award pages linked there. Do you have any ideas for what might be a good news site that would keep this kind of stuff up to date? I occasionally check EW, but they tend to only list the major awards. -- Scorpion0422 02:56, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

By the way, here's something you might be able to use for Troy McClure, although it isn't a very good list. Homer placed ninth (I agree with that) but Ed Sullivan didn't even make the Top 10 but Simon Cowell made the Top 50, go figure. -- Scorpion0422 15:51, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Complete

They may just not have listed them (it wasn't complete -- eg Dean and Seamus aren't on that press release)… but I guess that signifies that they're not anybody famous. That was the update of my life. Coming online to see "casting complete for HBP" and knowing that I could go update the List of cast members made my day -- I've been dying to do that forever! Anyway, it would be great to revise the cast list on the HBP film page. Thanks. Fbv65edeltc // 15:57, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

It looks great, Gran, thanks so much. I've just gone and fixed some of the refs and stuff on the page, but wow that press release is coming in handy -- 19 references already! Also, in accordance with this new Featured List of the Day Experiment, I think we should try and get the List of HP cast members up there, but right now its lead sucks. I'm working on improving it, but if you can come up with some ideas of expanding the lead (it's hard -- it's pretty self-explanatory), that would be great. --Fbv65edeltc // 19:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:25, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

I understand, and agree with, the rationale behind bolding the actor and character names in a cast list, when the entry for said actor/character spans multiple lines; it’s an aid to clarity. However (and leaving aside for now the notion that some would argue that only partially-bolding in this manner implies a certain prominence for those actors over the others), I think we’re failing to take into consideration users who may have, for example, different resolutions, different browser window sizes (not everyone goes fullscreen; many people prefer to tile multiple windows), permanent browser sidebars and different browser text sizes - all of which would vary which entries spanned multiple lines. With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film), the cast list appears different than 'as intended' if any of the above variables are tinkered with. I don't know the Wikipedia policy name, or if it even exists, but I assume there's one somewhere about making sure, where they can be, that the layouts of pages are tailored towards as wide a readership as possible. With that in mind, I would make the suggestion that bolding should be used on any entry within the cast list which contains prose (whether it spans multiple lines or not), while leaving non-prose entries (where it's "Actor as Character" only) in the same section unbolded. Your thoughts would be appreciated on this. Best regards, Liquidfinale (Ţ) (Ç) (Ŵ) 22:11, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

It strikes me that given enough time all those entries will have enough information to span multiple lines, and even paragraphs (see Beowulf for an excellent and slightly different-from-the-norm implementation of this), and it won't be an issue for much longer here. However, I should perhaps have taken it to the article's talk page first in order to gauge opinion. Should you care to revert it, I'll not reimplement the full bolding until such time as there is more information available, and will revert anyone who attempts to do so in the meantime. Best regards, Liquidfinale (Ţ) (Ç) (Ŵ) 22:31, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Cast

Nope, and that doesn't seem like the type of thing that would get through the lawyers. I always thought that Castellaneta was their first choice... -- Scorpion0422 20:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Not really, sorry. -- Scorpion0422 20:57, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I can't think of anything off of the top of my head, but it might not hurt to check Planet Simpson. -- Scorpion0422 17:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I really don't like that for the most part empty notes column. Can we do something about that? As well, it wouldn't hurt to throw every free image of the cast we have on the page. There are images of Yeardley, Nancy, Kelsey, Jan Hooks, Jon Lovitz and Marcia Wallace. -- Scorpion0422 16:48, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

That's a good idea. I'd say go for it after you fix that, and I'll take another look in a couple of hours. -- Scorpion0422 16:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Do you think we'd be able to user this image for anyting? Somebody suggested uploading it for use if The Simpsons makes the main page. -- Scorpion0422 15:15, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

I think that is her too. Good luck trying to get use of it. -- Scorpion0422 16:46, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Triple crown

I, Durova, am pleased to award Gran2 this triple crown for exceptional content contributions to Simpsons-related articles. Thank you for some fine work. DurovaCharge! 20:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Your Majesty, enjoy your triple crown with a donut. I particularly enjoyed your choice for a featured article. DurovaCharge! 20:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Triple Crown, Order of the Donut

Spiffier triple crown, new awards available

The standard triple crown.

Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the standard triple crown you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:09, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Annie Awards

The Annie noms are in. [2] The movie was nominated for four. I'm a tad surprised that they didn't get any noms in animation categories, but I guess those are dominated by computer animated movies. Also disappointed that Dan Castellaneta wasn't nominated in voice acting, he did a really good job. -- Scorpion0422 14:59, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

I just discovered this image at Commons. Do you think we'd be able to use it anywhere? -- Scorpion0422 02:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I found this online. I have no idea how reliable that source is, but it looks kind of like a joke article to me. What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 18:17, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I also found this one in which it says that MG said that Brown would not be asked to appear on the show. In another bit of bad news, apprantly Britney Spears will be back. [3] I guess the producers seem to think that Simpsons fans like her or something. -- Scorpion0422 18:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Emmys

I don't get it, you want me to find sources that are not the official Emmys database or Infoplease? Infoplease should be fine because it is a division of Pearson Education. Cirt 16:22, 4 December 2007 (UTC).

I'll try to find some secondary sources when I get a chance. If I don't get to it in a day or so, message me again. Thanks for thinking of me for this, much appreciated. Cirt(talk) 16:38, 4 December 2007 (UTC).
The Complete Dictionary of Prime Time Network TV Shows 1946 - Present (ISBN 0-345-35610-1) also indicates the winner of the 1969 Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series was NET Playhouse. Hope this helps. MovieMadness (talk) 17:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Simpsons movie.

For the simpsons movie, do you think there should be a short paragraph about the soundtrack with a link to the main article? I think it's a standard feature in movies that have a significant soundtrack. Here is an example from Medal of Honor: Airborne.

All the in-game musical scores and tracks on the Medal of Honor: Airborne soundtrack were composed by Michael Giacchino, who also composed scores for the previous Medal of Honor titles Underground, Allied Assault, and Frontline, including the main theme for the whole series.

Just an idea. By the way, the movie just came out on dvd down here. All the best luck getting the article to FA! --Simpsons fan 66 21:36, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Lucky you, I'm not getting it till Christmas! The commentary is going to rule. --Simpsons fan 66 02:03, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

How's the DVD? It won't be released here until next week. I noticed that there are only citations for the producers commentary, and not the directors one. Did you simply combine the two, or have you not listened to it yet? -- Scorpion0422 00:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

It is interesting. I hope that if they win, they make some kind of joke about it, because the show always calls the Globes worthless. -- Scorpion0422 15:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I hear you have the DVD? Check this out: The Simpsons Movie DVD Review - "Homer's Monologue on The Tonight Show - We see Homer bomb introducing the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." -- Do you have more info on this? Is there DVD source commentary about it? It would be an interesting addendum to add to the Cultural references section of the article on The Last Temptation of Krust. Cirt (talk) 07:54, 15 December 2007 (UTC).
    • No worries. Excitingly enough, I'm actually finding plenty of secondary sources that discuss this appearance. Check out the article so far, and let me know what you think? Cirt (talk) 08:30, 15 December 2007 (UTC).
      • Thanks. It's up at WP:GAC now. Then WP:PR, then... we'll see... Cirt (talk) 08:35, 15 December 2007 (UTC).

Selected picture?

If we were to have a Selected picture section at Portal:The Simpsons, which minimum (10) pictures would you go with, that are not already used somewhere else in the portal? Cirt (talk) 19:36, 6 December 2007 (UTC).

  • P.S. the topic box for your section User:Gran2/Userboxes is wrong, it says a redlinked "1" where I think you want it to say "The Simpsons (season 8)" ? Cirt (talk) 19:37, 6 December 2007 (UTC).

Man this page you've got User:Gran2/Free-use The Simpsons images is really cool. We could certainly make a case for a selected picture section with all the guest stars and recurring guest stars - all we'd have to do to make it relevant would be to have a short sentence or two noting their significance to the show and/or what episode they guested in. Same goes for cast/production staff, a simple couple sentences or less would tie this in well to The Simpsons theme of the portal. I'll add this same note to the portal talk page. Cirt (talk) 21:47, 7 December 2007 (UTC).

  • If we are going to go ahead and agree to have a selected picture section, it would be helpful if you want to put a short note in your gallery about what episode the actors guested in, and the character they voiced. Cirt (talk) 21:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC).
    • Well, whatever is available in free-use. But if the whole band appeared on the show, then the whole band would be better. What do you think, should we go ahead with this, or should we wait to see if Scorpion still objects with using images from User:Gran2/Free-use The Simpsons images ? Cirt (talk) 22:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC).
      • Okay, it can't hurt to create the associated subpages, it's just the adding it to the portal itself that would be better off having a consensus for. And thanks for doing the info/bits for the pictures, but no rush, we really only need (10) or so to start it off and show others what it will look like with randomization, the rest can be added bit by bit. Cirt (talk) 22:16, 7 December 2007 (UTC).

User:Gran2/Free-use The Simpsons images

If you know of any other sources for free-use pictures, we could use some more "General" type pictures, as you see there are only a few at User:Gran2/Free-use The Simpsons images, and they have all been used at Portal:The Simpsons. Cirt (talk) 17:19, 14 December 2007 (UTC).

  • I love Image:Simpsons tv icon.svg and how it's a vector image. Any chance of finding/creating some more free-use vector images related to The Simpsons, that are not derivative works or artist recreations, but more like vector images just along a theme? Oooooooh, I just thought of an awesome idea, how about creating a vectorized version of a free-use image of Jimmy Wales, but Simpsons-style cartoonized somehow? Know anyone good enough with graphics to do that? Cirt (talk) 17:24, 14 December 2007 (UTC).
    • Or some other sort of Wikipedia-related free-use image... Cirt (talk) 17:27, 14 December 2007 (UTC).
      • I'll check it out and poke around. Cirt (talk) 17:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC).

I've been adding facts to that, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in adding about ten or so? I've added over a dozen and I thought it would be nice to get someone else's opinions in there. I've been trying to add a variety, which isn't easy as most of our best articles are about the same things (episodes, characters) and many others have no sources at all that you can use for facts (ie. None of the video game articles have sourced facts and few of the writers/directors have good stuff) but there are a lot of other characters and episodes and some of the voice actors that you could get stuff from. -- Scorpion0422 21:11, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

I just saw that this has been scheduled. Congratulations! Cirt (talk) 13:05, 16 December 2007 (UTC).

If you don't call trivia trivia it's still trivia

Please read information on the template before removing it:

"A number of articles contain lists of isolated facts, which are often grouped into their own section labeled "Trivia", "Notes" (not to be confused with "Notes" sections which store footnotes), "Facts", "Miscellanea", "Other information", etc."

The name "cultural references" shouldn't mislead you so easily. Notice that's it's a list of isolated facts, therefore, it's a trivia section

Please edit articles based on wikipedia guidelines and not personal feelings. Wikipedia guidelines discourage trivia sections. Notice that this is not impending doom for the section; it's not going to be removed in x number of days, it merely informs people that this is a poor section and that if these facts are important enough for inclusion in a legitimate encyclopedia then they can be merged into the main body of the text somehow, and not listed in isolation. There are a few other similar pages that are FLs, have you look at them? And, there is a bit of dispute over The Simpsons because a couple of users (who I think may be socks) seem to think the page needs an analysis section from one author who hasn't ever written a book specifically about them. -- 14:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

I thought I'd run this one by you first, before I made the changes. I was gonna change all the "homosexuals"/"homosexuality" to "LGBT". My community is using LGBT more, as it includes bisexuals and transgender individuals. While the show hasn't focused at all on bi or trans characters, I think it would be better just to use LGBT instead of the two homo words. As you probably already know, I changed all references to John and "Bart" from homosexual to gay, as the word homosexual is a bit dated. Let me know what you think Ctjf83 talk 20:51, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

like where it says "Homer's Phobia was the first episode to revolve entirely around homosexual themes" change to around LGBT themes...with spelling out what LGBT means here and "revolve entirely around homosexual themes" to LGBT themes...I guess it wouldn't make sense to change "references to homosexuality" well i guess I didn't read it closely enough the first time..it would just be those 2 then..I don't care, if you wanna leave it, that is fine. Unless, of course, they introduced a bi or trans character (which I doubt) Ctjf83 talk 21:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
I'll leave the decision to you then. Like I said, the community prefers LGBT now to homosexual as it is more inclusive. Ctjf83 talk 21:13, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Well what did you decide? Ctjf83 talk 17:11, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
