And as suddenly as it started, the debate has ended. The editor will be back some day, and will probably have either some similar "confirmation", or possibly gotten a response from Pietela. However, I think anything less than confirmation from Groening, Brooks, or a high up member of the writing staff isn't sufficient. One of the biggest stories about the show is that Groening created and named the characters in 15 minutes outside Brooks' office (in his book, Ortved says the story is probably more complex than that, but that's besides the point), and that story has been re-iterated countless times over the years. It was certainly an odd discussion, as the user was making all kinds of assumptions and claims (ie. that Brooks just doesn't know as much). Why do people feel the need to insult us because we edit a topic they don't approve of? Okay, we aren't editing a scholarly topic, but who cares? Who thought Mixar was clever?

Like most recent episodes, it started okay, then fell quite quickly. It wasn't so much an episode as it was a bunch of minute-long one-off segments tied together with a loose plot. As for Maurice LaMarche, I have no idea who he voiced (possibly one of the rappers?). I'd have to watch the episode again (and I really don't want to do that). Was that Nick Park voicing the Wallace & Gromitt rip-off character? I thought he sounded quite a bit like Dan C. I must admit, the animation on the parodies was nicely done, even if they all went on far too long. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 16:37, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

In regards to our new insider friend, he's been around wikipedia since September 2009. His user page says he speaks Croatian, most of his edits are to American TV shows or European football teams. He doesn't appear to have a history of editing Simpsons pages, so I'm not sure what to make of it. If he came out of nowhere and started adding this info, that's one thing. But, this user has been on wikipedia for a while and one day added some info that can't be sourced to anything (although, he added some writers/directors to the season 22 page in early February and those were mostly proven to be correct [3]). Hi ! I am new to wiki so i hope I'm typing this in the right spot! I'm reaching out to other users for help. As I understand it, I need to track down an established wiki editor to help me rid the first article i've created ("Stone and Stone")of the ugly box that was posted on top "This article has multiple issues....".

I know exactly how these complaints came about. In my ignorance on how wiki works, I gave myself the same nickname as the subject I was writing on and then a whole drama ensued, as it was assumed that I was my subject and that I was writing an autobiography! In truth, I am a huge comedy fan and biographer and was dipping my toes for the first time in wikipedia waters!

Phillip Hartman

You might be interested to know that Phil has been nominated for the Canadian Legends Award by Canada's Walk of Fame. [4] It's essentially the same thing as getting a normal star, except that this category targets older deceased Canadians who are "Canadian pioneers in film, music, sports, arts and innovation." Apparantly being on television in the '90s makes one a pioneer. This is just my speculation, but I think they prefer their inductees to be able to attend the ceremony, so they only induct one posthumously every year and thus they get lumped into this category. Also nominated are: Rod Cameron, Lorne Green, Walter Huston, Al Waxman and Jeff Healey. I have also been editing less these days, but I'm done for the summer, so my editing should pick up a bit. I agree with you that the project has been kind of lacking in new blood as of late. I think it's because we finished the season FT drives, and have already improved most of the more popular pages. So the ones left for improvement are tricker and involve more work, so newer users are hesitant to get involved. Well, she has done it before. She previously wanted mentions of Scientology and her ex-husband removed, and the addition extended mention of her charitable activities. It was this that inspired me to clean up the article in the first place. I have to admit, I think this paragraph is a bit detailed. The line "Law enforcement stated, "There are no indications of foul play, and friends and relatives of Brackett said he was despondent because of financial troubles with his business"" could be interpreted as some that there were initially accusations of foul play on Cartwright's part. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 17:57, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Phil Hartman (1948–1998) was a Canadian-born American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and graphic artist. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Hartman and his family immigrated to the United States when he was ten. After graduating from California State University, Northridge with a degree in graphic arts, he designed album covers for bands such as Poco and America. Hartman joined the comedy group The Groundlings in 1975 and there helped comedian Paul Reubens develop his character Pee-wee Herman. Hartman co-wrote the screenplay for the film Pee-wee's Big Adventure and made recurring appearances on Reubens' show Pee-wee's Playhouse. Hartman became well-known in the late 1980s when he joined the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. He won fame for his impressions, particularly of President Bill Clinton, and stayed on the show for eight seasons. In 1995, after scrapping plans for his own variety show, he starred as Bill McNeal in the NBC sitcom NewsRadio. On May 28, 1998, Hartman was shot and killed by his wife while he slept in their California home. In the weeks following his death, Hartman was celebrated in a wave of tributes. Dan Snierson of Entertainment Weekly opined that Hartman was "the last person you'd expect to read about in lurid headlines in your morning paper ... a decidedly regular guy, beloved by everyone he worked with". Jokes - can they be referenced?

So after just responding to you my talk page, I thought about one of the points I made, about how one could possibll cite the "getting it" goal of a joke. I searched for the first joke I could think of that would likely have its own page, and succeeded with The Aristocrats (joke). I read all the material in the Notes and none of it explained the idea of the joke as it was explained [accurately] in the article. This is my point about references to jokes, that those who get it all get it equally in quantity and quality and those that don't don't. If someone had heard about The Aristocrats or the joke itself but did not get it and was too embarrassed to ask or something of that nature, reading the wikipedia article on it would do a job of explaining it. Even though it's unsourced, it's accurate. And if there were someone explaining it, would that make it a source -- or just that person's opinion/orginal research? This reminds me of the Sarah Palin and Paul Revere controversy a few weeks ago. I don't know how familiar you may be with what happened as I see that you're British, but she made up some gibberish about a Revolutionary War hero and was widely lampooned in the media for not knowing what seven-year-olds here can readily tell you. BUT, because her version was disseminated through the media, her supporters came to the Paul Revere wikipedia page and instead of making a note to the controversy, decided to change the very basis of the article and the man's life history -- because they claimed to have credible sources: CNN, New York Times, etc. Obviously credible sources, yet in this case they were reporting on an opinion itself. Sorry that was a big long of a tangent, but that's what I'm saying about what happens when you rely on sources too heavily, not everything can be found in a peer-reviewed academic journal (and even then, it might not be reliable, see: The Sokal Affair), and the majority of these sources are just people's opinions. So, if some comic explains the comedy behind The Aristocrats, is it a source or is it his opinion or his original research or what? Long and the short of it, I don't think jokes can be cited to references explaining them, and the pun in the title of an episode of the Simpsons is a lot more substantial/important to the article than a random bit of unsourced Trivia which could be found on the IMDb page, but would not belong in the wikipedia article. A free image of Julie Kavner? I've never been good with figuring out licences, so I'm not sure. It's not the most flattering image (and she looks kind of like Yeardley Smith, but I'm pretty sure its Julie), but it's better than nothing (here's another image of four cast members, it could also be useable). Simpson family

Apparantly, an incomplete family tree that adds little is essential to the article. A user keeps adding it and is demanding I discuss it with him, but he's been quite rude, so I have no desire to oblige him. Besides, I know what he'll say (just leave it. It's useful. How else would we know who is related to who?).

I've been trying to think of ways to expand the Works based on The Simpsons category. Do you think something like The Simpsons Ride or The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special would count? I guess it depends on the definition of "based on". Do you just count third-party works (defining "based on The Simpsons" as being only works not associated with the official franchise), or do you include the Ride and merchandise like the comics and video games (defining "based on The Simpsons" as being works spun off from the TV show)?

Also, remember that Hustler movie that was being advertised (In all fairness, the guy who played Flanders was about as dead on as any person I've ever seen dressing as a Simpsons character)? It would be funny if someone created an article for it. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 18:48, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I like the idea, but I'm not sure if we could pull of such a page. We might be able to make it into a list (ie. By having a table with each season having a row), but then we run into the problem of notability (most would question the necessity of a page for such a specific position). If we could put together an article that explains the job, how it differs from other shows and (most importantly) the prestige of the position, then it might work (of course, finding such sources is easier said than done). -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 22:07, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

You used a navbox template to organize the file's information. Since navboxes are only supposed to be used for navigation between articles, the bot ignores their content when checking for an image source. If you want the bot to see the image's source, you should use either an {{Information}} template or one of the non-free rationale templates. You can also place the source information outside of any template, but I feel that templates do a better job of organizing things. --Carnildo (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Simon MacCorkindale

Hi, and thanks for your message. As I wrote in the review itself, I hope that my comments don't come across as unnecessarily and excessively harsh. Well done for expanding the article into the comprehensive biography that it is now; it was still very interesting to learn about MacCorkindale's early life and career (prior to the review, I only really knew him for Casualty and Jaws 3-D!) It's just that I feel that the article could benefit from some re-ordering and re-structuring for focus. The references seem solid enough to me - at any rate, the article seems to draw heavily on interviews with MacCorkindale, so those are strong primary sources. Certainly broad in its coverage. I think WP:DOH has a lot of good will these days based on our previous effort. That combined with the fact that our episode articles are hardly the worst on Wikipedia by a long shot, gives us a bit more time than other TV shows to improve these articles. Why?

Hi there, did you deliberately revert the {{BLP sources}} to {{BLPunreferenced}} with this edit? If so why, especially when you also added a second ref to the one I had just added? We are nearing the end of the great WP:URBLP/WP:URBLPR backlog reduction drive, so we don't need to waste time going back over ones we've already cleared. Believe it or not, I was somehow able to find the exact page just by opening the book to a random spot. That's lucky. The page in my copy is 95 (I think it's the American edition as well, so you can use the book citation used in other articles).

So this year the show didn't win an Emmy, Annie or WGA Award. In fact, as best as I can tell, the only award they won this year was a People's Choice Award, and that was for "Favorite Family" and not episode content. That might be a first. Re: Ratings

Thanks. It was extremly hard to find reliable sources, so I'm glad I was able to complete it. I do believe that a top 10 chart would be possible.
