Please see the WP:Music and WP:Bio policy pages before re-posting this page. Papoose doesn't currently meet inclusion standards. Once this individual status comes to meeet the article listing criteria then please feel free to re-add him. Until then it will be nominated for speedy deletion. Please do not remove the {{merge}} tags from the article Papoose. An article already exists at Papoose (rapper) and the two should be merged. I see you have removed it thrice now. This is considered vandalism. If you persist you will be blocked from editing.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| r 3 $ |-| t |-|) 07:57, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Gravediggah. I have noticed that you have just started using Wikipedia, and I note that you immediately went to create your own article Papoose. Perhaps you had used IP addresses previously. Anyway, I would just like to give you a nice big warm welcome.

When people first come to Wikipedia, it is a very harsh environment. It is likely that you will not find an environment which is less welcoming to newbies. There are a few reasons for this, the main one being that many people pretend to be newbies when they are really not just so that they can vandalise articles (blank pages and add nonsense) and otherwise disrupt Wikipedia.

However, Wikipedia is not all like that. One of Wikipedia's rules is in fact to be welcoming to newbies, and to always assume good faith (see here: WP:AGF). Thus, whilst your initial impressions may be of hostility, once you get used to Wikipedia, you will likely find that people are a lot nicer. Its just that the welcoming ones tend not to spend too much time on Articles for Deletion.

One tip that I would give to you is to not create too many articles. Instead, try editing existing ones. Remember that you should always have a source for every edit that you make. So that means either looking at information from existing references (these should be at the bottom of the article) or else looking at your own new reference - which you should also list at the bottom of the article. Wikipedia has a policy regarding this which is called WP:V verifiability. There is also a policy about writing about things that you know to be true but can't prove, which is called WP:NOR, or no original research.

I for one think that Papoose will be kept, but if it is deleted, you should not be too upset about it. We all hate when an article that we spent a lot of time on, and cared about, is nominated for deletion. It sucks. Its even worse if it is actually deleted. So next time, rather than making an article on something that you think is notable, try writing an article on something that someone else thinks is notable. A good way to know if this is true is if there is a "red link" in another article - which points to an article that does not yet exist. This is often a good way of determining that the article really is wanted.

Wikipedia is confusing at first, as it seems to be both a community as well as an encyclopaedia. Some people call it an "Encycloblog" because of this. But don't think that this is going to be the same as a blog either. You can't just write anything. When writing an article, think to yourself - would this exist in Brittanica? If yes, then write it. If no, then don't. Its really as simple as that. If you are not sure, then go over some reasons for it.

Don't worry too much about people who write you things and accuse you of this that and the other. They are just being defensive because they think that you might really be an old user pretending to be a new user. Once they realise that you are genuine and are trying your best, they will treat you with a lot more respect.

Cheer up! :) Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 08:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw you created an article under Rakim's birth name, William Michael Griffin. There's already a great page on Rakim, so feel free to add content to that article, as Wikipedia only has one article per subject. Thanks! Klaw ¡digame! 00:28, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
