Note about RSN Thread[edit]

Thank you for your comments at WP:RSN. I'm going more off-topic than discussing the reliability of the source in the following, so I will post it on your UTP. Per WP:APPNOTE, it would be great if you can post more briefly and neutrally in your first statement next time (even coming from someone who posts long replies far too often). It is unliely that participants here would respond to more specific concerns on whether extensive usage of quotes count as interviews, which is an independence, secondary, and SIGCOV problem, not a concern with reliability.

Nevertheless, reading the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chanale briefly, currently the delete voters appear to be unconvinced by your thorough rationales. You have replied to all of the delete voters, they appear to have examined the sources and reasonably drew a conclusion that notability is not met. At some point it might be prudent to try to comment less frequently at the discussion and post fewer comments. As someone who is far too active at AfDs and drama boards, this of course is difficult but repeating similar arguments could become repetitive. I'd also caution about using WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS as part of your argument- while your other points are potentially convincing this one is not. I've encountered this argument countless times, numerous articles are Wikipedia are indeed substandard. But the proper way to handle those is to improve, consider WP:ATD, or nominate for deletion, it does not bypass WP:GNG/WP:NMUSIC. Oh, and besides the perennial sources list is for sources frequently discussed (at least two full-length discussions) at Wikipedia. Just because a source isn't listed doesn't automatically make it reliable or non-reliable, so often some judgement is required for borderline ones, which could of course be intrepretated differently. VickKiang (talk) 05:39, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to get into that, VickKiang. I was not aware of WP:ATD, but I did expect improvement was an option, especially given the existence of "poorer" articles out there (sorry about bringing up WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS here as well, but, seriously, if they can exist without scrutiny, improvement on this article should at least be considered). Anyway, I appreciate that you're considering my rationales as thorough, and I'm sorry about repeating points or addressing every comment as it comes in (whenever I've had the chance to respond, anyway). I thought the process was supposed to be point-counterpoint, so that was the way I've approached it, especially considering the 7-day timeline I read about.
Thank you for your point about the Perennial sources list. It still surprises me that Haaretz is the only Israeli publication listed. The Jerusalem Post seems to have come up multiple times, and Arutz Sheva has had at least one lengthy discussion about its use as RS. Both are major publications.
I'll continue to work on improving the Chanale article as time becomes available, though. I just hope that whoever is in charge of following through on the decisions, whenever consensus is considered as having been reached, allows the article to get placed into AfC rather than just making it disappear (assuming that deletion is what's chosen). She's one of the few women getting broader public recognition for work in her space, and that is a big deal in terms of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish world (women in that world have finally been making progress in that regard in recent years). It would be a shame for female erasure within ultra-Orthodoxy being the reason for erasure elsewhere.
Thanks again GreenEli (talk) 17:21, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chanale[edit]

While obviously a draft page can have disabled categories on it, so that they just appear as text links to the category instead of filing the page in the category, there's no rule that an editor who comes across a draft with undisabled categories on it has to just disable them and cannot just remove them outright. (There are, for example, situations where total removal is necessary, so there can't be a blanket "always disable, never remove" rule that applies across the board.) So if it's important to you that disabled categories be present on the draft, then you're perfectly free to readd the categories in disabled form yourself, as long as you follow the proper processes (i.e. either inserting a leading colon in front of the word "category" or wrapping all the categories inside the {{draft categories}} template) to ensure that the page isn't prematurely filed in mainspace categories -- but since there's no rule that I was required to preference disabling the categories instead of removing them in the first place, it isn't really my responsibility to undo my own edit myself.
That said, if you do want to readd the categories in disabled form, I would suggest the following: one, since Category:Hasidic singers is already a subcategory of Category:Hasidic entertainers, she doesn't need to be in both of those categories at the same time, and instead just the Hasidic singers category is sufficient; two, she should also be added to categories related to the intersection of music with her American nationality, such as Category:Jewish American musicians and Category:American women singers. Thank you for your swift reply,
I wouldn't have wanted to just undo it myself, as I didn't want that to be some kind of an issue as well. If it's acceptable to restore them (again, disabled), then I will do so. Thank you for the suggestions regarding which categories to keep. GreenEli (talk) 16:59, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking the time to review the article, @Greenman. I'll take a look! (Apologies for the delayed reply. Passover kept me quite busy.)
GreenEli (talk) 18:48, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Greenman,
Thank you, again, for reviewing the article. I've taken a look at the comment that you left there, and would love to move forward on making some changes. But, aside from Chanale's birthdate (I'll come back to that in a moment), I'm having some trouble identifying the particular sections or statements you'd like to be better-sourced. Is it the opening sentence of the Career section? Saying that I Am The Land is her most popular song (at the time the statement was written, anyway)? Something else?
Regarding the birthdate specifically (along with the popularity note of the aforementioned song, actually), it's a hold-over from a much earlier version of the article, entered by one of the original editors. While I don't know who any of the previous editors were, I do know that she was 23 years old on July 1, 2004, when the Texas Jewish Post article referenced in the article came out. I didn't think that it would be necessary to verify that further.
I can remove the "her most popular song" note from the note about where she now lives, if that's helpful.
Any other input you have in regards to better sourcing the article would be appreciated.
Thank you! GreenEli (talk) 19:25, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
