Mr Gay[edit]

That was a very clear copyright violation, and it should remain deleted. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 04:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you are the person behind Mr Gay. The text claimed that: All rights for distribution, broadcasting, reproduction and reuse of any images, collateral or documentation of the Competition network is held by Community Promotions, LLC., which is in violation with the copyright at wikipedia, and by adding the text to wikipedia, you give away those rights of the added text as wikipedia is licenced under GFDL. I will unprotect the page and remove the notice, however, I would advise against recreating the page as it was. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 05:22, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Explaining[edit]

Hi there, Greg. Thank you for being so reasonable ("I am the owner of this event. I'm part of MR GAY. My adds have been removed twice. This is my first time useing wiki, if you wish to talk to me please tell me how to respond."). Let me see if I can satisfactorily address your questions.

The first problem with the article on Mr Gay Atlanta is that it's a copyright violation - but, as you said, you are the creator, and therefore you are able to release the copyright on the text from the web page. (Are you absolutely sure you want to do that, by the way? To release the copyright, to make the text editable by other people?)

Also, there's the issue of how the article is phrased. It does not sound like an encyclopedia article - especially since it's worded in the first person. That makes it seem, more than anything else, like an advertisement or a press release. And, be honest, isn't that pretty much what it is?

A related point is the fact that it's your project. You're the one involved in this, and that's a very big mistake. We strongly discourage individuals from creating articles on themselves or on their pet projects, for a variety of reasons - firstly, because we strive for objectivity, and how can anyone truly be objective about whether they are notable or not? You must also realize that allowing people to create articles on themselves would set a very bad precedent. If someone else, someone unaffiliated with you, creates the article on the Mister Gay Atlanta Competition, then of course you can add whatever extra info you have. But you should wait until someone else does it.

And if you want to protest that not enough people know about the MrGA contest yet, that brings me to my final point - what truly counts as notable. How many years has the MrGA contest been running? Is it a famous thing, even locally? Or is this the first year, and you were hoping that Wikipedia would help you "get the word out"?

I hope this helps you understand why the article was deleted (again), and that you are not angry. DS 04:43, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict, I hope not too redundant)

Here's the basic problem. Wikipedia is not for advertising things which people hope will become important in the future, or things which are solely important to them. Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia which tries to contain articles which are about things which are already notable. Notability is always a bone of contention, however from a quick google search it looks like your event, so far, is not very notable, in that it hasn't been covered by any major news organisations, and the only hits for it are for your own site and myspace. Once the event has already gotten some coverage/notability/notoriety, then it can be included. Until then, not. Mak (talk) 04:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MR. Gay Atlant[edit]

Please do not reinsert deleted material. Thetruthbelow 05:33, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the article, which if nothing else is incorrectly titled - Atlanta should be capped. It also looks like a straight lift from a site and therefore a copyright violation, and there is no indication of why it is worthy/notable enough for an enc article. It has been suggested that I block you for recreating the article, but I thought it fair to warn you first. If you can address the issues I've mentioned, please do so - but don't just re-enter the previous deleted material, jimfbleak 05:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

Suggestion, make the page first at your userpage, by following this link /Mr Gay, and ask some admins to have a look at it before you move it to the main space. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 05:44, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another point[edit]

Greg, from what I saw in the articles (administrators can read deleted content), the Mister Gay contest has been running since 2003 - correct? This would make it count as "notable", I'd say.

However, this is only the first year for the Atlanta sub-contest, which means it doesn't yet count.

Feel free to create the Mister Gay article - making sure to give all the reasons that it's notable. DS 11:42, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Petra Praise.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Petra Praise.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Ladye Love Smith[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ladye Love Smith, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

subject is non-notable

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. SlubGlub (talk) 05:59, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Reggie and Ladye Love Smith has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No non-trivial sources found. All I could find was name-drops and other WP:ROUTINE coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
