Welcome

[edit]

Hi, Grim Fandango92. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  21:14, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

(I've moved this help request from Talk:Cast The First Stone - please place helpme requests on your own talk page)  Chzz  ►  22:00, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How do I set it to go to the disambiguation page: "Cast The First Stone (disambiguation)" that I made instead of automatically going to the album by Ensign. Think both are equally as likely to be visited so no primary page really applies. Although I understand why it's like that because before I made the page there was only that article. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Hope I haven't made too much of a mess:-)My first page and am really proud of it. Thanks in advance. --Grim Fandango92 (talk) 21:52, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:DISAMBIG for a very full explanation of how to set this up, etc. I hope that will answer you; if you do have any further questions or find that help file confusing, please put another helpme on this page. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  22:00, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Re. your request on my talk; I will look into it now, and respond here within 20 mins.  Chzz  ►  22:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Phew. Think I've fixed it all up; please check. I mucked it up myself at first; redirects and disambigs do tend to make your brain hurt. I think that all is now well? If not, please let me know. Cheers!  Chzz  ►  23:18, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Reasoning here - if there are only 2 articles with similar names, and unlikely to be a 3rd in the forseeable future, I can't see the point of a disambig. As to whcih one is the first match, it's just a toss of a coin thing, and I don't think it really matters. Hope you agree.  Chzz  ►  23:25, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

←Sorry, I have deleted the Vext album article. There is no article on Wikipedia for the band Vext, therefore there is no point in any articles for their albums. I don't know whether this is because they are non-notable or whether nobody has got round to creating such an article yet. As a result of the deletion, I have moved everything back where it was beforehand. Had there been an article on the band Vext, the correct thing to do would have been to put a disambiguation hatnote at the top of the existing album article pointing to the Vext one. This would have saved alot of disambiguation changes on other pages which must be done: see the "What links here" tab in the toolbox section on the left hand side. If you have any other queries, please let me know. – B.hoteptalk10:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I presume that you used the 'speedy deletion' process, WP:CSD. Please could you tell me which CSD category that you felt the article met?
Considering the state of the article, I don't think that a speedy delete was appropriate. Existence of the band article is, as far as I can tell, irrelevent. Perhaps if this article existed, it might encourage the creation of such an article.
Please could you restore the article to my user space.
Regarding the disambiguation, I carefully read the guide to disambiguation, and I believe that my actions were according to that procedure. I would, of course, be grateful if you could help me by explaining where I went wrong.

You didn't go wrong at all, please don't take offence. The original move is where it all went wrong. It was unnecessary as you yourself stated above. The article was deleted under A9, as stated in the deletion summary. Of course I will userfy for you. I will watch this page for future replies. Thanks. – B.hoteptalk11:49, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for putting a copy of the article into User:Chzz/Cast the First Stone (Vext album). Now, I can indeed see that the article didn't make a claim of notability; I'll try to find the time to source one - or perhaps Grim Fandango92 could do so? Thanks again,  Chzz  ►  14:22, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

((unindent)

I've looked around a bit, and I can't really find a good reliable source to assert notability; plenty of small websites with coverage, but no news articles etc.

Looking at WP:MUSIC, I think the pertinent policy is, "In general, if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." - so perhaps the best thing to do, if possible, would be create a suitable article on the band first - assuming that notability of the band is OK per WP:BAND. A stub would do; and, if I understand the policy correctly, the notability of that would thereby make the album article OK.  Chzz  ►  17:16, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
