A barnstar for you.

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
For your patience and kindness in helping Alvanhholmes. You wrote "Come back here and ask as many times as you need to." They are a 79 year old editor and Wikipedia's accessibility is very important to me. Sincerely, Shashi Sushila Murray, (message me) 01:03, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

I've, regretfully, been busy and haven't been able to help them as much (I'm also a new editor myself). I'm very cynical about Wikipedia's community (for good reason, obviously), so I want to recognize those who are working against the inertia of the established culture on here. Sincerely, Shashi Sushila Murray, (message me) 01:03, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words, @Shashi Sushila Murray: I hope I can live up to them.--Gronk Oz (talk) 00:25, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:International Trade Centre logo.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:International Trade Centre logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:45, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

For completeness, I will document this here: the article in question (International Trade Centre) was changed to use a SVG logo in place of this PNG version. Not sure why, but we don't need both so I am happy for this one to be deleted.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:18, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Alastair MacLennan (obstetrician)

On 4 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alastair MacLennan (obstetrician), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Alastair MacLennan and his wife Alice, both experts in reproductive health, were caught by surprise and had to deliver their own baby at home? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alastair MacLennan (obstetrician)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Nice user page

Hi! I just dropped by to compliment you on a beautifully presented user page, and I hope you don't mind if I pinch some of your ideas for useful links and also layout ideas? Gronk Oz: I am battle weary on this one. I would appreciate some help adding a new citation and the reference for it!ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia (talk) 02:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Here is the entry I'm editing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spasmodic_dysphonia

Here is the text I wish to reference:

Dr. Herbert H. Dedo was the first to utilize this approach.

Here is the citation:

H. Dedo, Herbert & Behlau, Mara. (1991). Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Section for Spastic Dysphonia: 5- to 14-Year Preliminary Results in the First 300 Patients. The Annals of otology, rhinology, and laryngology. 100. 274-9. 10.1177/000348949110000403. ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia (talk) 02:36, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi, @ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: references can be trickier than they first seem. We'll get it sorted out. The first thing I notice is that reference 45 appears to be exactly what you describe above. So far so good. Then I noticed that it is identical to ref 46 (I just noticed because it immediately follows it) so what we really want to have is one citation, referenced at two places in the article.
Done Looking at the code, that reference was defined where you indicate, and also at the end of the one-line History section. The second version had slightly more information, e.g. both authors, so I decided to keep that one. I named it by changing the ref to "<ref name=Dedo1991>". Then I changed the other one (as you describe above) to use that named reference, i.e. ""<ref name=Dedo1991/>" (note the / at the end to indicate there is nothing more to come). I don't know if that description makes sense - it might be easier to look at the actual code. Anyway, please feel free to get back in touch if you have questions, or if I'm not available the good folks at the Teahouse are always willing to help. --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:58, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: AARGH - Three times I have made those changes now, and every time they get rejected because you are editing the article at the same time. Let me know when you're done so I can change it. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:07, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
@ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia: Such edit clashes are one of the challenges of using Wikipedia. There was a break in editing, so I had another go at it. I see that you have moved that sentence into History now, immediately after that reference is already used. Not sure if that was just to get around the problem, or if it's what you really wanted. In the interim, I have made the changes above although they look peculiar now because Ref. 45 is used twice, but they are on successive sentences in the same paragraph. So if you leave everything in its current place, you probably don't need both references. However, if you move one back where it was then you can take the ref with it, and it should work fine. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:34, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the help with references

Gronk Oz - I didn't realize you were trying to edit the actual entry; assumed that you would try to teach me how to do it. Anyway, your suggestions were good and I have learned a lot tonight. I hope I didn't go back in and "fix" it again before I saw them! I will check again tomorrow after coffee. I appreciate the advice. Good night! ConsumerWithSpasmodicDysphonia (talk) 04:19, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

It's all good - see my comments above about what I have done. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:41, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

@Movingframes: I guess you are talking about article Yaara Ve (film). I see that you put in that information, and it was removed by an anonymous IP editor with this edit: [1]. They did not leave any reason for the edit, but I imagine it is because the source did not support it. The source says "Produced by Bally Singh Kakar, it would release..." The link you give above does not mention those co-producers either. I am no expert on film articles, but I imagine an article about a film that has not been released yet would not normally include co-producers. --Gronk Oz (talk) 11:54, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Edits to St Augustine's College pages

Hi GronkOz,

My name is David Gilbert. I am the Archivist at St Augustine's College - Sydney - formally Brookvale. It appears that you are making edits to our School page. Would you be able to contact me to discuss this? my email is gilbert.d@saintaug.nsw.edu.au.

Many thanks.

Lianne.Williams (talk) 04:55, 2 April 2019 (UTC)David

@Lianne.Williams: Hello, David. Given your role, it is vital that you declare your Conflict of Interest for this article - see WP:COI for details. In the meantime, I have placed a COI tag on the article so the situation is declared. I prefer to keep communications on Wikipedia here, where they are visible to all editors. I made some minor changes to St Augustine's College (New South Wales), and I am very happy to discuss any of them. If there is a specific edit you would like to discuss, by all means raise it here. In general, the best place to discuss is on the Talk page for that article (i.e. Talk:St Augustine's College (New South Wales)), so that all editors can contribute and agree on how to proceed. After all, this is not "your page" - it is an article that all editors are encouraged to contribute to, just like every article on Wikipedia. As the archivist, I am sure you will be in a unique position to contribute to the article so I look forward to that.--Gronk Oz (talk) 07:12, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

License tagging for File:TAD Australia logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:TAD Australia logo.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. Reversing a 12 year old merge?

Can't quite figure why you reverse a 2007 merge of an unreferenced piece of inworld WP:CRUFT at The Knack (Dilbert episode) with this edit leaving the edit note "Wikify punctuation for quotes per MOS:QUOTEMARKS"? What am I missing? Klbrain (talk) 18:08, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

@Klbrain: Mea culpa, I didn't realize I was doing that. Serial Number 54129 has reverted it, so it's in a good state now. If you're interested in how it happened, I saw a Userbox on somebody's page which says he has "the knack" and links to this page. I followed the link out of curiosity, and I did not notice that it led to an old version of the page. I just noticed that the quotation marks were wrong so I fixed them. Of course, that brought back the whole old page. I should have noticed but I didn't - I'm glad you and 54129 are on the ball and caught my error - thank you. --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:48, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

@Maaz47123: Firstly, a quick administrative request - please put four tildes ("~~~~") at the end of your contributions on Talk pages - this will "sign" it so I know who wrote it (see what I added to your comments above). Getting to the topic - I cannot comment on what information is most helpful for that topic. The best place to have that discussion is among all the editors involved, which means raising the topic on the Talk page of the article I linked to. Describe what you propose, and everybody can discuss it and agree on the best approach. Hope this helps.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:40, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

Rollback

On your user page, you state that you have rollback. When I checked here, I don't see any evidence that you have this user right. It might mislead others looking at your user page into thinking you have this right. Can you please change that? Interstellarity (talk) 12:27, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Interstellarity. I honestly thought I had Rollback, because I use Twinkle which gives rollback functionality. But you're right - I was not in the Rollback user group. I have applied for that permission now (you can track this at Wikipedia:Requests_for_permissions/Rollback#User:Gronk_Oz), and in the meantime I have removed that userbox from my User page.--Gronk Oz (talk) 13:30, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

Philosopher in Meditation

Because so little ever happens in the abovementioned article and I am not a very technically versed Wikipedian, I take this opportunity to learn something. Since you corrected my wording, I assume that you read the entire article in some detail and found only this to change: the first of its kind since I posted the article in 2011(?). Being a professional translator into English, I consider my written English to be correct, and I would be interested in knowing what is wrong with the formulation "the exact same format"? Of course "exactly the same format" flows better and I have no objections to keeping it, but the slower rhythm of my original wording was meant to emphasize the fact of sameness. Again, I would be interested in knowing why it was worth changing. Jan van der Zone 11:07, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

I too am going to object to making that exact same change, as you did at PATCO Speedline. It is not incorrect, it is fully idiomatic, the replacement does not always work, and it leads to awkward phrasing. Also, it's not a mere typo, so your edit summary is misleading. Please remove that from you list of changes. oknazevad (talk) 15:04, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Hello Jan van der Zone and Oknazevad. I am very surprised that you would object to that change, because "the exact same" is just a common grammatical error. It uses the adjective "exact" in place of an adverb. This is why it is included in the standard list of errors that are automotically corrected by Wikipedia's AWB tool, as was the case here. I did not make that choice based on my own opinion and it is not on "my list of changes"; it was the consensus of Wikipedia editors' opinions as embodied into the tool's list of typo corrections. However, if you feel there is a good reason to retain the original wording you are always free to revert the change.Gronk Oz (talk) 23:58, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Well, then I'd recommend ignoring the pedantry and take a look at this description at Meriam-Webster. Seems to me that this may be one of those things that should be in the essay at WP:SNODGRASS. oknazevad (talk) 02:36, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Oknazevad: I'm sorry if you found the change pedantic. You had already reverted it so I'm not sure what more you are asking me to do. If you feel so strongly that the replacement wording is "incredibly awkward and ungrammatical phrasing" (which is how I feel about the original wording) then the best place to raise your objection is probably on the AWB talk page, to request it be removed. Gronk Oz (talk) 04:56, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm asking that when you use AWB in the future, remember that anyone who uses AWB still has the responsibility to review the changes made and to verify them before saving the edits. Don't assume that just because a change is automatically included in its workings that it must be made in the final edit. I just ask that you more carefully review the edits. oknazevad (talk) 14:02, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Oknazevad: I'm not sure how many ways I can explain that in my opinion the change was an improvement. I do review every change with AWB, and the tool itself reminds me to do that when it starts. What we have here is a simple difference of opinion about which version is better. You have already reverted the change and I am not proposing to put it back, so I don't think there is any more needs to be said.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:14, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Oknazevad: I see that you have put a comment on the AWB code page, but that is not likely to get peoples' attention. If you want to propose removing it, a better place to raise it would be at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:51, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
I actually did remove it, but another user turned it into a comment instead. Considering it was added after only one person requested it, with no real discussion (as seen in the archives of the typo sibpage of the discussion page), it shouldn't need too much discussion to remove. Either way, it's deactivated, so if there's any figure discussion, it should be held at that subpage. oknazevad (talk) 00:05, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
@Jan van der Zone: I took a closer look at Philosopher in Meditation, and if you want to improve it then the citations need some work. At the moment it is a confusing mix of full and short citations, without the benefit of a separate "References" section. Choose one approach and stick with it throughout the article. See Wikipedia:Citing_sources#WP:CITESHORT for the recommended approach if you prefer short citations. Reference 12 is more problematic: is simply says "Op. cit., 198." without any indication of which source it is intended to refer to. Op cit is generally deprecated, but if you feel there is good reason to use it in this case then please follow the guideline at Op. cit..--Gronk Oz (talk) 00:24, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

Short descriptions for Doctor Who companions

I had a longer response but I lost the message. Might expand what I was considering later but basically I was not aware that 40 characters was the cut off point for short descriptions on mobile devices, nor did I see this mentioned on the information page (which states "A target of 40 characters has been suggested, but this can be exceeded when necessary"). At a minimum, the "TV series Doc" issue did not show up on my tablet nor my phone in mobile mode. TardisTybort (talk) 22:48, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Telfer mine & the Truth about it

Sir,

I seems you are not familiar with the issue of the discovery of all the present mines in the GSD, to wit Telfer / Nifty / Kintyre. At the very least the referenced books on the subject should be included. On the one hand the official version funded by Newmont & written by Newmont 's CEO 's Dr. David Tyrwhitt. In it is the precise official relation of Telfer mine 's discovery. Overflying the Great Sandy Desert in his corporate aircraft and as textually writen in DESERT GOLD: Quote I spotted the site from the air and landed nearby in the Desert to take samples Unquote On the other hand there is THE GOLDEN RULE by Bob Sheppard, The True Story of the Discovery of the Telfer gold mine.

Should Wikipedia shun from giving both sides of the discovery of Telfer mine & others, and favorise the fraudulent corporate story. A kind of self-imposed blackout on an evident ridiculous claim, whose basis is the cover-up of a Multi-Billions fraud. ( as late Attorney General T.D Evans asserted.

Is then, since it was not you, Graham87 party in that attempt to suppress information as to what happened. It seems so, but this does not give credit to the impartiality of Wikipedia. Furthermore tarnish the image of Wikipedia he is supposed to uphold.

You may choose not to transfer totally what I wrote, but at the very least those references should be included.

Incidentally, you may know that I did not get a cent nor a thanks for my exceptional service to your country, but on the other hand calumnies, innuendos & the most callous ingratitude. This is what Graham87 stands for, obviously, considering the way he immediately dismissed the update & rectification I made. Contrarily to what is patent now, the article on Telfer mine should not have been written by the Newmont/ Newcrest crew, but indeed in all impartiality by people able to assess the real History, and whose allegiance was to Wikipedia only.

Thanks for your reply anyway.

Yours sincerely

@Basalt3711: You're right, I do not know the history of that area. Nor do I need to be. Remember, Wikipedia articles are not based on the personal knowledge of the editors, nor on their original research - they are based on a summary of the best available sources. As I said on your Talk page, if you have a proposal to change that article then the best place to discuss it is on the article's Talk page. Provide references and suggest what specific changes you think should be made. I looked back at the change you made before, and frankly I could not understand what it was saying - you and the other editors will need to work on presenting it more clearly. Be clear - nobody has said that new information such as yours can't be included, but it needs to be supported by references, and clearly presented in line with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. (Also pinging Graham87 since you accuse him of suppressing information.) --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:28, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Gronk Oz:. For your info the Choice_(Australian_consumer_organisation) page has had a merge and rewrite. You can contact me if any issues. CatCafe (talk) 22:45, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, CatCafe. The new article looks good, and I was particularly glad to see that you also updated the redirection link at Shonky Award - you obviously have been well trained. --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:06, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Hey also there's 4 redirects for the magazine and I've now pointed them going to the Choice_(Australian_consumer_organisation)#CHOICE_magazine section. Someone at one point in time created too many different redirect names for the Magazine.
- Choice_(Australian_magazine) that's the original Magazine page that's now deleted and merged.
- + CHOICE_magazine this one
- + Choice_magazine and this one.
But I guess that's all we can do with those redirects for now? CatCafe (talk) 23:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
@CatCafe: Yes, it doesn't hurt to have a bunch of redirects - a reader might search for any of these, so it's best just to take them to the relevant part. --Gronk Oz (talk) 05:24, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello Mister Gronk Oz,

I am writing this letter to have my Wikipedia page posted to the public.

Hello @66.214.46.10:. I don't think I can help you - you really need somebody who speaks the language, and I only speak English. There is a "Wiki-project" that is specifically aimed at building articles about actors and filmmakers, and that is probably the best place to find a suitable author. You can contact them on their WikiProject page at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers. Good luck! --Gronk Oz (talk) 00:00, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

"Jon" Pertwee

Hi,

I understand the revision on the article for the actor that played the Third Doctor in Doctor Who - in that case do you want to alter the articles for the two other Who former lead actors Tom Baker & Matt Smith?

(Just a question and not a dig or gripe)

Juanpumpchump (talk) 05:16, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

@Juanpumpchump: - good point. The guideline at MOS:NICKNAME also says "If a person has a common English-language hypocorism (diminutive or abbreviation) used in lieu of a given name" then it does not need to be spelled out. I don't have a strong feeling about it, but it seems to me that Tom and Matt are normal short forms of Thomas and Matthew. But "Jon" is not such a common contraction for "John" (of Jonathon perhaps, but not so much for John). So my first reaction is to leave them as they are, but I'm quite open to other points of view... --Gronk Oz (talk) 14:05, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Well I just typed in "Jon" to Wikipedia and got Jon Bon Jovi, Jon Stewart and Jon Voight - so there is a few other famous ones!
Juanpumpchump (talk) 05:51, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
@Juanpumpchump: - I don't see how any of those relate to Pertwee's particular situation. The only one of those which is a contraction of "John" is Bon Jovi, and his Wikipedia article does list both names. Jon Stewart is a contraction of Jonathon (not John) and his WP article also gives both names, while Jon Voight is not a contraction: Jon is the full name.--Gronk Oz (talk) 08:56, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Page Cecil Cook (physician)

Hello Gronk Oz,

A considerable amount of new information has been added to the wikipedia page on Cecil Cook. I believe it would benefit from a peer review. I saw you had added to the page previously and wondered if you could help. Thank you! (Lydiahoughton (talk) 11:29, 17 November 2020 (UTC))

Hi, @Lydiahoughton: thanks for letting me know. It's not my page, but I did have a go at building it up. I am not finished but I did get distracted by life and other things. In particular, there is a new book all about him; I have a copy but so far I have not looked at it. So it might take me a little while to get the article to where I am really happy with it. He is a controversial figure, so it is tricky to get a neutral balance.--Gronk Oz (talk) 13:47, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Ah, now that I look at the history I see that you got a hold of the book yourself, and obviously beat me to reading it!--Gronk Oz (talk) 13:53, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi, @Lydiahoughton: - I have just had a quick look. It is going to be difficult to check the book references, because there are no page numbers. Each reference should really say which page(s) support the specific claim.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:07, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi Gronk Oz! Thanks for having a look at it! Yep the book was really good, thank you for the comment I will have a go at referencing the page numbers as soon as I can. (Lydiahoughton (talk) 00:11, 18 November 2020 (UTC))
@Lydiahoughton: there are two different ways to do the page numbering. The easiest (which I mostly use) is to add the {{rp}} tag at each citation. Note that I changed the reference name from ":1" to the more meaningful "Leithhead_2019" - I hope that is okay. So then a reference to page 123 would be coded as <ref name="Leithhead_2019"/>{{rp|123}}. The more complicated, but arguably more elegant, way is to use {{sfn}} - I'll leave it to you to read up on that approach if you're interested.--Gronk Oz (talk) 01:35, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

@Lydiahoughton: I just saw on your User Page that you are studying for a BSc at the University of Sydney - that is my old alma mater! BSc (1983) and MA (1985). But we didn't have Wikipedia then... --Gronk Oz (talk) 01:41, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

No way what are the chances! I went and looked and the referencing changes, thank you for doing that and for explaining it. I was just wondering, I saw you changed "Aboriginal" to "Aborigine". I did a quick research and it was my understanding that the correct word should now be Aboriginal. Do you agree with this and is it ok if I go through and change each one to Aboriginal? (except the title "Chief Protector of Aborigines" of course). (Lydiahoughton (talk) 23:28, 18 November 2020 (UTC))
@Lydiahoughton: "Aborigine" is the noun, "aboriginal" is the adjective. In practice they are often confused, especially because terms like "aboriginal people" get shortened without changing the form. I know most people don't worry about stuff like that, but I try to stick with it. However, now that you mention it I started looking around and I found that some people deprecate the word "aborigine" when referring to an individual, preferring to refer to the individual tribal group which the person belongs to - this was suggested for incorporation into Wikipedia's Manual of Style, but it was rejected (here). So without a guideline to refer to, I am left with just my individual view. Out of interest, and as a learning exercise (which is what this is about for you!), perhaps don't take this one person's word for everything. I won't be offended: Wikipedia works on general consensus. There are a couple of options. Obviously start by searching the Manual of Style for yourself. Then you could ask at the Help Desk for guidance on the two terms. Or you could ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia but be prepared for a drawn-out discussion.--Gronk Oz (talk) 01:57, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for the options! I will look into it further (Lydiahoughton (talk) 06:26, 19 November 2020 (UTC))

Please consider editing the "Phonics" article.

Thank you for editing the articles on Literacy and Reading. If you have time, perhaps you can look at Phonics. Cheers, John NH (talk) 20:02, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, @Jnhmunro: I have run Phonics through the same editing tool, called AWB. It found only minor changes - changing curly apostrophes to straight ones per MOS:APOSTROPHE, and it consolidated references that were re-used. I will take a look and see if I can spot anything else manually.--Gronk Oz (talk) 04:54, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
@Jnhmunro: the article looks good. My only comment is that some sections have no sources, such as "Vowel and consonant phonics patterns".--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:04, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gronk Oz: Thank you very much. I was wondering how to change the apostrophes. There is so much I don't know, and I am not very technical. I did not write that section but I will see what references I can find. Thanks again. John NH (talk) 09:21, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
@Jnhmunro: it's all good. There will always be things you don't know; there are LOTS that I don't know. It isn't about being perfect; it's about being useful and providing reliable information. Don't spend you whole life trying to polish an article to perfection! --Gronk Oz (talk) 11:33, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Changes to History of Pernambuco

First, thank you for your editing on History of Pernambuco. I have some items I would like to discuss in this regard and for which I have made a post on the talk page for the article. I am still the new guy so I may be in error as to the proper procedure, for which I apologize.P2dwight (talk) 23:13, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello @P2dwight: you have really jumped in the deep end as a new editor, putting in a huge effort on that article - well done! I am particularly impressed with the collaborative approach you have taken, trying to get other editors involved on the Talk page. You are doing everything right, and I encourage you to continue in this spirit of co-operation. The main discussion should remain on the Talk page where all editors can see it. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the subject so I don't see how I can really contribute to the conversations about content. My changes were just minor copy-edits done using the AWB tool to fix typos etc. I am happy to help if I can, but I can only really offer general comments - for instance, "Recent history" starts out "As it was evidenced by the discussion in preceding sections Pernambuco has made great strides in improving the quality of life for its citizens" - that reads more like an essay, where the author is trying to make a point, rather than an encyclopaedia which simply summarizes what the best sources have to say. Articles generally should not have "discussion", especially not from the author's point of view. I think this is probably the sort of thing the tags are driving at, and it will get cleaned up over time. In the meantime, you have done the heavy lifting with providing thorough references etc. This is a particularly challenging article because of all the connections to other topics, and that has been handled very well. --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:18, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Many thanks, for looking, for editing, for your kind words, and for the barn star.P2dwight (talk) 13:47, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

@Rsarlls: It looks like the page was deleted after all, but has been set up as a draft (Draft:SNAC International). That is good; you can work on the issues that were identified, and put it up for promotion when you think it is ready.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:35, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for edits on above article. It is still a bit of "work in progress" so eventually it may need a bit more "tidying".

Ted Sidpickle (talk) 09:31, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

@Sidpickle: my pleasure. Sometimes when I don't want to do too much thinking, I just run AWB against new articles. You have written a very interesting article there: I do love the turn of phrase "their affairs may not be altogether free of embarrassment". And I can't believe you built that Relations table using a chart - that must have taken ages!--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:30, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Editing talk page comments

I noticed you left a template on my talk page about deleting personal attacks. According to WP:TPO, I am allowed to do this. The guideline states, Removing harmful posts, including personal attacks, trolling, and vandalism from talk pages is acceptable. The content in question did not contain any kind of suggestion for improving the article, and was simply trolling. You might also want to read the essay at WP:DTR, because I believe I understand this better than you do. Geogene (talk) 16:15, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@Geogene:You seem to only understand what you want to. My statement clearly concerned the content of the article and how you were deceptive in your edit statement regarding it. RobP (talk) 23:26, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
@Geogene: if you feel strongly that there was some personal attack then you always have the option to escalate to arbitration. Before doing that, you might like to consider an opposing view to the essay you refer to at WP:TR, written by a Sysop who obviously has more experience than all three of us combined. Reading the history of comments that led up to this, I have no doubt that you "believe you understand this better than I do" and so your actions are above criticism; that is a shame because that attitude makes collaborative discussions difficult. Similarly, deleting other editors' comments from a discussion is a form of bullying that damages collaboration. RobP's specific comment pointed out an inconsistency in what had been said, and said nothing at all about you, so I cannot see how it is a personal attack - it addressed the points, not the person. Just because somebody disagrees with you, and points out weaknesses in your arguments, does not justify removal.--Gronk Oz (talk) 03:03, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

reFill errors

Hi. I just cam across the Manas Kongpan article, which you recently edited with reFill 2. I'm not familiar with the tool, but the edit appears to have included several errors which required fixing manually (Special:Diff/1027015472). If these are out of the ordinary you might want to report this to the tool's developers. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:07, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

@Paul 012: Oh my goodness. I really should have picked up many of those; I guess I have got complacent about relying on the tool, I will certainly report that back to the developers. Thank you for letting me know.--Gronk Oz (talk) 23:05, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

can orphan tag and the other be removed as i added more references of reliable sources please?

[[3]] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khudaeidadkhan (talkcontribs) 21:12, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

@Khudaeidadkhan: references are very important, but being an orphan is a different issue. It is not a serious problem, by the way. The article is an orphan because no other articles are linked to it. So to fix that, edit a different article to include a Wikilink back to this article - perhaps a suitable place might be Qāriʾ#Notable Qāri?
My next suggestion if you want to improve the article is the expand the Career section. That is the reason that he is notable, so it deserves more than a single paragraph. Tell the story of how he got started, and how me developed this career (as given in the sources, of course). In particular, see if you can be more specific about vague terms like "travelled to several countries" or at the end "won various awards". There is a list of awards later, but for the reader it would be helpful to explain a little about why the most important ones are significant. Similarly, the heading for that section is currently "Early life and career" but it does not mention his early life. Don't spend too much time on that, but if you have sources that talk about where he grew up and got started in this career, then a short summary here might help the reader to get a more complete understanding.--Gronk Oz (talk) 22:43, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

can you check this article it has been improved and expended the early life section and help me to remove that tags Please?

your suggestions and advices will be appreciated Thank You{{unsigned |Khudaeidadkhan |10:15, 21 June 2021‎))

There are still no other articles that link to this one, so it is still an orphan. However, I agree that there seems to be plenty of coverage to show notability now. So I have remove the Notability tag.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
@Khudaeidadkhan: I added him to the list at Qāriʾ#Pakistan. Now that another article has a link to this one, it is no longer an orphan - so I removed the Orphan tag.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:18, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Please check the page is not orphan and I have introduced links to the page.I love to be honest (talk) 14:11, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Yes, there is now a trivial link from Yadav (surname). If you feel that is sufficient to de-orphan the article then you are quite entitled to remove the tag.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:16, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Request to have a re-look at State Council (Sikkim)

Hi, you added the tag more-refs-needed to State Council (Sikkim). I have since added more refs (including a book and a journal article) and inline footnotes. Could you please take a look at the article again? If you still feel refs could be improved, can you add citation-needed tags at appropriate locations? Thanks. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:09, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Done Hello, @MPGuy2824: yes, I agree that is much better. I have removed the {{more citations}} tag, though you were also quite entitled to do that yourself if you were satisfied that the problem was resolved. --Gronk Oz (talk) 08:18, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Micro Center

Hello, Gronk Oz. Thank you for keeping the Micro Center article tidy. I'm afraid I must disagree with your reversion of the word tense. If the information was valid yesterday (October 4, 2021), they we could easily say it is current and thus a present word tense is appropriate, or we could say that because it was yesterday that a past word tense is appropriate. I based my decision on word tense on three factors: 1, the business is still in operation; 2, it is likely that those figures are close if not spot-on accurate being a recent past; 3, articles on people vary word tense according to context, but the lede is generally present tense for the living.
I admit that this still leaves it open to debate. The best solution would be to verify the information, and to update as necessary—I was busy at the time, so I didn't undertake this, nor did I expect it to get reverted. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 23:09, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @CJDOS: We could spend ages debating that, but instead I took your much better suggestion and updated the figure. It has not changed - still 25 stores in 16 states.--Gronk Oz (talk) 04:21, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Not a typo in Tavastian dialects

You recently mistakenly corrected "ie" into "i.e." in Tavastian dialects. It is really supposed to say "ie". It's an example of a Finnish diphthong, not a contraction of the Latin phrase "id est". JIP | Talk 01:47, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

@JIP: please accept my apologies for that. I was using the AWB tool, and because it picked up a couple of other typos on that page I didn't notice that this one was legitimate. Thanks for picking it up.--Gronk Oz (talk) 11:12, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Graham Whelan (Irish criminal)

Hi Gronk Oz, thanks for your edits to the above article. I've added links from three other articles - is that enough for the orphan tag to be removed? Autarch (talk) 01:27, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Nicely done, @Autarch: but the illustrious Ser Amantio di Nicolao beat us to it, and removed the {{orphan}} tag already.--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:54, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Done Hello from Australia. If you are Hassan Ali Kasi, then I thank you for not editing the page yourself. As you can imagine, it is difficult for any person to be balanced and objective when writing about themselves, so we discourage people from doing it. In general, the best way to request somebody to edit the page is to request it on the Talk page associated with that page - see the process described at Wikipedia:Edit requests.
But in this case, I am happy to help out. Note that the pakobserver source was not usable, since all it said about the subject was "[The event] was also attended by Hassan Ali Kasi, a student of Islamic Studies at IIUI who won a world recitation competition." Simply attending an event is hardly notable, and the competition win was already in the article. Everything else has gone into the article; at first I wasn't sure about the Facebook page but I am satisfied that it meets the standards at WP:ELOFFICIAL to be an official link. I am happy to see that things are going so well for you.--Gronk Oz (talk) 00:27, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
