Chinese dialects?[edit]

I agree that using the language name is better, but I deliberately chose "Hong Kong" because I think (but am not sure) that among the Chinese dialects there is more than one word for "Hotel" but only one of them is used in Hong Kong. Does anyone know whether I am right? The results I got from a web search were a bit confusing and I could have gotten it wrong. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:26, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Guy Macon: There are a lot of words for hotel in Chinese, but according to Chinese Wikipedia the one used in HK is 酒店. I'm used to this word myself, but would understand many of the others. Since that is the title chosen for the Chinese Wikipedia article, I'd say you'll be on good grounds if you call it just a Chinese word. However, I think you have the wrong transliteration: bīnguăn is the transliteration for a different word for hotel (宾馆). (Also, it should be bīnguǎn with the háček instead of the breve.) The transliteration you want is jiǔdiàn. All these transliterations are for Mandarin dialect. Double sharp (talk) 15:22, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
