80.217.152.161

Thanks. I assume from your comments that you must have read my talk page. I was researching and hadn't updated the watchlist for a while. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 04:01, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

What?

Perhaps you should look closer at the edits I have done. I was fixing the typos that CambrideBayWeather had pointed(The ones we were in consensus with thatwere wrong). Licinius

Good work

You seem to be committed to making Wikipedia better (and try to uphold a npov). :)

I see that your wife is from Nazret/Adama. Out of curiosity, is your wife Oromo?

Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism

Thanks for tweaking the category on Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism. I am unclear on what this group is... rebel group? Government militia? Any clarification on this is appreciated. If you're interested in Africa, you may be interested in joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Chad. Thanks. KI 21:08, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Darod & Hawiye

I blocked 80.217.152.161 for a week over his last edits to Hawiye. See this. It looked OK so I left it in but moved the comments to the talk page. Then 64.40.46.244 had a go at Darod. I think I got it back OK but I was no to sure about the list of notable people so can you look and see that I got them correct. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:36, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Second Italo-Abyssinian War

Sorry about adding to that article without citations its just that I did a course about the Second Italo-Abyssinian War over the weekend where I learned that War Crimes were commited on both sides. I did not bring any of the information home with me so cannot cite my sources but I find it frustrting tht the article is so one-sided. It seems to be saying that the Italians were bad and the Abyssinians were good. Before the Italians invaded, Abyssinia was an empire which was ruled by an ethnic minority so it did not necessarily make things any different for the majority of people (not that this is justifying the invasion). Is there anything that can be done? (As you can probably tell I am a novice at using Wikipedia) {-- Sarah 20:30, 7 March 2006 (UTC)sezziemezzie

Thanks. I guess I was just trying to say that Italy's war crimes may have been in response to Abyssinian war crimes such as using dum dum bullets against Italian planes and torturing surrendered Italian prisoners. Unfortunately, I have lost my written source on it cos I'm an idiot. I shall try to find out more in the future. I shall also trying to prevent having a rant at myself. --Sarah 18:45, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Leelkase

I've added that article to the CVU bot watchlist. Also you might want to try putting a message on the article talk page about why the edits aren't appropriate, then you can point to that when reverted. If it gets really bad you can ask for page protection (WP:RFPP). Cheers, Petros471 15:46, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

What you put on the talk page looks great, thanks. Also worth noting, if you need quick action against a particular vandal (after warning them) see WP:AIV, though as you pointed out before that can be very difficult if IP addresses keep changing. Petros471 17:01, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Oops, sorry for treating you like a newbie! I'm not even an admin :) Petros471 17:39, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi:} I'm not an admin either!. You need to speak to an admin because I dont know all the rules. But I know you are not allowed to alter an image/map. That's why people kept on deleting your map. You either include it as it is or you have to find a different map. Do any of the Somali websites have a better map? Or the UN, OAU, World Bank, Institute of Strategic Studies, charities, etc? Jameswilson 00:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, that meesage was for Taajir. Yes, the info he added is correct. If you google Awrtable for example you will find plenty of sites that say the Awrtable live around Burtinle, 70 km south of Gerowe. But we need a better map! Jameswilson 00:12, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Unsigned comments

By the way, how exactly to you sign unsigned comments for people. I can see who made the changes, but I'm not sure as to the format for making it show up as it does (this unsigned comment was...etc.).

Thanks

Yom 05:50, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

This is a bit unnecessary, but I noticed a comment of your saying that the original use of Habesha was derogatory (i.e. that it meant "mixed" or "mongrel"). This is not the case. I have long updated the Habesha article, if you want to check that out.

Jesuit Interim

Though the Portuguese (Jesuits) certainly came to Ethiopia around 1500, it certainly didn't affect religion and especially didn't break the link with Alexandria until Sissinios conerted in 1624; this interruption was effectively only 8 years long.

Yom 17:43, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

We had a debate about the extent of Ethiopia during Aksumite and Medieval times, but you eventually just stopped responding. The article now contains no information about the extent of "Habesha" (in the stricter sense) people and Ethiopia, and I think it'd be better to come to a consensus than to omit the information entirely.

Just a bump as a reminder. Yom 20:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

There is a debate going on over at Talk:Tigray_people over the name to use for the article. It'd be great if you could participate to widen any consensus reached and increase the input(right now only Merhawie and I are engaged in it).

Yom 18:35, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Gyrofrog, I finally had a chance to go thru my old National Geographics (my parents started their subscription back in 1960), & found a cite that shows there is a perception that Gurage are hard-working & industrious. I put it up at Talk:Gurage, please adapt it to confirm your point. -- llywrch 20:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

I can corroborate this, and also that they are thought of as greedy as well. I'm guessing that this stems from the fact that they are highly urbanized and therefore usually merchants more so than farmers. The perception is slightly analogous to that of the Jews in the past, but not actually hatred so much as a stereotype.

Re: Daarood clan

What some members are listing there as facts are donkeyshit to say the least. LoL. They are tribalists propagating what they hear from their living rooms without giving a consideration to the fact that wikipedia at least tries to be an ecyclopedia, not a forum or discussion board. They have no evidence, just listing what they think is a fact.

Half of members of 'noted Daarood clan members' is unheard of in Somali community. Only few, no more than five is famous enough to grant to be stated there.

Also know there is a competing tendencies between some members of sub-clans to list their 'noted' clan members to counterback others. Same with listing sub-sub-sub-clans. They listed unheard-of clans.

I think you might have been confused with their relentless edit and counter-edits, too. Soomaali April 16, 2006

RE: LEELKASE SUBCLANS IN THE DAROD SECTION.

Please stop the user "SOOMAALI" who keeps on erasing my contributions to the Leelkase subclans in the Darood section.

The Leelkase tribe is a very large tribe, which does not get the attention it deserves since they are peace loving people who do not go around publishing maps with their clan members names in the past.

The Leelkase is the Son of Tanade Darood, who is brother of Kablala, Marehan, Awrtable and Ciise. The Leelkase tribe therefore has major subclans just like Kablala divides into Harti, Ogaden, etc, etc... And therefore must not be hidden, just because someone did not do enough research!

Originally Leelkase tribe had a powerful Sultanate in the Bari region of Somalia near the Baargaal Banderbeyla region about 500 years ago. A group of Somali clans belonging to the their Darood cousons came and invaded that sultante causing the death of thousands of Leelkase(Tanade) people. Today there are hills of bones in that region filled with the bones of that Kingdom, the hills are known as "Lafa Tanade"(Bones of the Tanade).

Due to that invasion of the past Leelkase today have split into many locations of Somalia and Somali region of Ethiopia. They live heavily in Mudug region in Galdogob District and Galkacyo District. Also in the Nugaal they live in Burtinle, Eyl and Garoowe. And in the Lower Jubba of Somalia in Kismaayo. They also live heavily in Banderbeyla region which is their original settlement and home. Also the Korshe Leelkase(Tanade) due to that war waged against the sultanate 500 years ago now live in Jigjiga, Dire Dawa, and Fiq areas of the Somali reigon of Ethiopia. And also the Dudub district of the somali Region of Ethiopia.

So i would appreciate that this user called "Soomaali" to be stopped and that my contributions to the Leelkase subclan, whome "I" belong to- be taken seriously and not as a joke. I expected much more from this website then the back and forth child-like editions by such user's as "Soomaali".

The Soomali User is either very tribilist and has hidden agendas or has something against the Leelkase Tribe. the preceding comment is by Taajir - 18:55, 26 April 2006: Please sign your posts! Taajir, 26 April 2006

Reverting user page

Thanks for reverting my user page! :) NCurse work 18:44, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Don't know if you know, but I've just started a WikiProject for Ethiopia-related articles, and I thought you'd be interested in joining. It just started so no discussion has really started yet (a little preliminary at my talk page), so be bold in starting discussion pages so that we can quickly get everything up to speed!

Darod

I'm looking for a second opinion on the names and links that I put in earlier.

  1. Is Maj. Gen Mohamed Siad Barre the same person as Siad Barre who was president of Somalia from 1969-1991?
  2. Is Abdirashid Shermarke the same person as Abdirashid Ali Shermarke who was president of Somalia from 1967-1969?
  3. Is Adde Muse Hersi the same person as Mohamud Muse Hersi who is the president of Puntland?

I had linked them as quick reasearch indicated that they were the same. However, User:Taajir removed them. I still think they are the same and restored them here. Let me know. Thanks.

I see you also ran afoul of the dreaded Tawkerbot. We must be evil vandals. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:32, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

You're right

Dad's right

I've read Worldbank p.7. So I think you're right that the Hawiye is the largest clan. The Darod and Isaaq figures given by Puntland and Somaliland are exaggerated. The only possible competitor could be the Rahanweyn. Other point: leaving out "Tribal Study" is not that bad. The different views of the clan structures are in the World Bank appendices. I wished there was a way to include these different charts in Wikipedia. S710 08:26, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
