Anti-vandalism[edit]

I'm going to give up patroling the RC while you're on the job; every time I go to revert I seem to be in an edit conflict with you! Keep up the good work :) ShakingSpirittalk 12:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Gzkn[edit]

Hi Gzkn. I'm a novice contributor who recently initiated the page Antediluvian Rocking Horse. I notice you recommended the page for deletion. As a frequent and avid wikipedia user, I think this content is worthy of inclusion. But, as a newbie, I could, of course, be horriby wrong! I'd be so grateful if you could tell me where I went wrong and how I might improve the quality of the article. Have a great day - or night! Gentrification[edit]

Sorry about that, I thought that the page had been almost deleted, so I reverted to restore it... That "delete" (where it says that there is no article for "Gentrification" might have been caused by wikipedia loading error.GoldDragon 03:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning templates[edit]

You gave Iandoh2 a {{test1}} for editing Template:X5, saying "Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do" - um, Template:X5 is a sandbox :-). Of course, he removed the line saying 'please do not remove this line', but if you want to warn him about that then {{test1}} is just going to be confusing. --Sam Blanning(talk) 13:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Closing XfDs[edit]

When closing an XfD where the actions was carried out by someone else, it's always good to make that explicit.
152.91.9.144 06:52, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't happen often enough for a de facto standard to emerge, so the text you proposed would be fine. I'd tend to provide the link to the log as well, and a note on the closer's page telling them that you've done so. (That's if they are a new adimn or don't close too many XfDs, there's no point reminding someone who has simply forgotten because they already closed forty that day.)

Whoops sorry about the xfD's[edit]

I was clearing out the CAT:CSD backlog, we had over 200 articles on it. Sorry if I speedied somethings and forgot to check for the afd. Thanks for telling me though. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 07:43, 5 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Repost speedies[edit]

Hi there. You nominated pirate metal for speedy deletion as a repost. However, it was previously deleted as an improbable redirect, and not per an XfD discussion. If you read the current text of the repost criterion, you'll note that WP:CSD#G4 only applies to pages deleted in XfD. Let me know if you have any questions. -- SCZenz 02:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you were right and I was wrong. The confusion is due to the AfD deleting Pirate metal, and the current article being Pirate Metal (note capitalization). Your tagging was correct; I'd go ahead and delete now, but I don't have time to close the AfD properly at the moment (which I ought to do if I delete the article). Sorry about that. -- SCZenz 03:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I see you don't mind copy edit requests, and I read that you're real good at it. Serial Experiments Lain is not yet of excellent quality, but it's going through FAC, and its prose is the main grief held against it. Would you mind having a look to see how it can improve? That would be most appreciated.--82.151.87.22 12:35, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the unsigned comment. Yes, that was me. Seeing the work you're putting in Peter Jennings, it's no wonder you can't help! Thanks anyway. Would you by any chance know someone who could be interested in the subject, with some copyedit experience? Lain is quite an obscure subject, and only Deckiller went through it for now.--SidiLemine 11:58, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you added a request that the trivia section be "cleaned up". Could you elaborate as to why you think it needs cleaning? There are only 5 pieces of trivia, and none of them belong in the only other section on the page (Plot). Where do you suggest that it goes? To start a new section for only 1 item, ie: moving the Raiders of the Lost Ark comment to another area such as "Cultural References" or something similiar seems ridiculous for only one item. Please cite some reasons or reevaluate your secision to put the Cleanup tag. Donaldd23 23:44, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Could you possibly check the last paragraph of "Early years and family" that I rewrote for any prose deficiencies. Oh! And what is IRC?! (As you may have realized, I have a problem with cut words!)--Yannismarou 07:32, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-vandal toolset?[edit]

Wow, you're sure fast when you're on anti-vandal duty. What tools do you use? dpotter 02:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I use Lupin's anti-vandal tool. It's pretty amazing. There's also vandal proof, but for some reason, it doesn't work for me... Gzkn 02:12, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

I've been using Vandal Fighter 3, with Lupin's popups for reverts. It's great, except that I'm forever manually dropping warnings templates onto vandal userpages, and I'd like to find a way to automate that. You're so fast, I am guessing you may have found some automation for that. dpotter 02:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feminism Vandal[edit]

I went ahead and reported him to WP:AIAV now that he violated the final warning.

By the way, do you know if 3RR applies to us in cases like this? The edits are definitely POV and quite possibly trolling, but not blatant vandalism. – Lantoka (talk) 13:49, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am really surprised that nobody thinks feminism is subject to vandalism - today has broken all records there. It is not lost on me that feminism was born out of abusive behaviour by males, and the feminism article has been the continual target of hate edits. I'm rapidly developing a zero tolerance for vandals. --Mgoodyear 21:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, unfortunately most of today's vandalism was probably by a single vandal, which doesn't help our case for semi-protection. – Lantoka (talk) 22:00, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moral horificies on Wikipedia[edit]

Dear GZKN

I am very cross with you. I am not in the habit of being reverted. That was an obscenity I removed from that page (I cannot bring myself to name it) your reversion of my prudent edit was an affront. That may be how you behave in your part of the world, but let me tell you, it is not how we behave in Mississippi. The world is a beautiful place, and young children not to mention "Our Lord" do not want to read about unseemly bodily functions whilst researching their assignments. Now please remove the offensive material at once. Thank you!

Sincerely yours

Catherine de Burgh 09:26, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Here is the link to your edit: [1]. I fail to see the "obscenity" that you removed. Gzkn 09:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am not only horrified by you response but totally disgusted. I am posting your rude response to me above to keep everything in context, so that the authorities who run the internet can understand the gravity of my complaint when I report it. I think you should understand such infringements of God's own moral law, could lead to Wikipedia being closed down. Reflect on your own part in this and repent. I should warn you that I am close friend of the former British premier Margaret Thatcher - who will take a very dark view of your behaviour indeed. Catherine de Burgh 09:41, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

I'm glad you've read it, that's two of us. I've also been involved in discussions there. As you may know the guidelines as to how long per context are vague and though I think it would be good to bring up a discussion to come to a consensus on just how long is long, for what and where, but others have advised against it. They are probably right and we just have to use our sense when it comes to deciding how long the lead should be on a particular subject. Regards helium, i tagged it since most other elements have much shorter leads such as sodium, potassium, zinc, boron. As for [[Terence Airey], true I should tagged it {{categorise}}. In the meantime I will tag all leads I feel may be too long consider their category. Please discuss. FrummerThanThou 15:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if the other article's LAEDs need lenthening, I'll leave you to it. It's your feild and you reckon people interested will want a certain ammount of detail in the lead. Your input into the aticles with short leads would be appreciated. p.s. I often put the {{LEAD}} up to feel out the area, there is no real way of me knowing every garden is tended to. Cheers FrummerThanThou 00:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're getting rather harsh. You can see my contributions, I don't go around tagging multiple articles, yes I am on the lookout though. I have read WP:LEAD#Lenth it a number of times, it itself needs to be lengthened. I will soon be making a template for Leads that are not long enough, or not "all inclusive". I only tag articles where the lead is overwhelming. I make mistakes, since some topics people are overly interested in. Since the Wikipedia 1.0 CD, is going to only include the lead, I have to make sure the Lead includes as much information as possible and that it is all inclusive. I hope you understand, thanks for your feedback. FrummerThanThou 01:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, I'll let you know when its up. p.s. I did go on a 'random article' spree that day, as apposed to browsing. FrummerThanThou 01:21, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barack Obama[edit]

My apologies. My issue wasn't his status as the 5th African American Senator ever, but the part about that office saying so. It's not necessary to put that in the sentence there; there's a reference link at the end and even if there weren't, it's a fact that isn't exclusive to that source. The Whale Must Live![edit]

This is a topic very dear, believe it or not, to the citizens of Andover, New Jersey. It is very important to them, and Matt Stern. Now, I believe that there is no harm in allowing a simple article to exist in peace. It is no controversial subject nor alteration of information, but a comic book that a 15 year old devotes so much time to write. Please, let us keep the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Savethewhale (talkcontribs) 13:53, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SaveThe Whale[edit]

As the creator of this page, I assure you that, while it may seem to be a mess, it is really a work in progress. But here I run head-long into the grey area of documentable research. I can speak knowlegeably about the Turkey Run Farm through nearly two decades of association, but in the case of the Virginia Aviation Museum article, which I created, my source was the actual placards for the exhibits, but I can't site a published source. The museum does not publish a document that has all the data on the display signs.

But does that make my research any less valid?

B movie colloquy[edit]

Howdy. I had no intention of responding hostilely to your original comment. I've looked over what I wrote, however, and I can easily see how it came over that way. I apologize for my clumsiness. Here's what I've written in response to your subsequent comment:

  • Sorry, didn't catch this comment until just now. There was no hostility--I just wanted to be clear whether there had been a revision in the citation requirements I was unaware of. As you suggest, large chunks of text without citation can be a concern, but--as I demonstrated to Jayzel--whether they call for citation or not ultimately has nothing to do with the length but rather with the nature of the content. In the example you give, for instance, (a) the description of Stranger on the Third Floor as the first classic film noir is an opinion widely held in the field, common knowledge to all professionals involved in film noir criticism and American film history in general (as common knowledge as, say, "The Jazz Singer was the first feature-length film with live-recorded dialogue"--does that necessitate a citation?), and (b) it has no strong intellectual status, as both (i) the definition of film noir and (ii) the line between "classic" noir and "pre-classic" or "proto-" noir are largely subjective. In both ways, therefore, the statement does not warrant a citation--not only is it material that is easily verifiable by any interested layman via simple reference to a wide range of published sources, it should not be given the imprimatur of a citation. It's an accurate and relevant observation about a generally held opinion in the field, no more or less. I've changed the wording of the sentence to make that a bit clearer. It was "movies" because...um...I can't type.—DCGeist 09:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Follow-up I've expanded the paragraph in question to cover more of the general relationship between the realms of film noir and the B movie. In the citation at the end of the graf, I've made sure to include an article that deals with Stranger on the Third Floor as well as the general issue of latter-day popularity.—DCGeist 12:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello Gzkn: after talking to Tutmosis, I was wondering if you could copyedit the Enter the Wu-Tang article. I want it to be a featured article and all of the help I can get is appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noahdabomb3 (talkcontribs) 17:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]
