Staring at the Sun (Song)[edit]

Hey H3xx, I noticed in "new page patrol" that you created this article recently. As I'm sure you are aware, there is a disambiguation page already started to avoid confusion. The "Staring at the Sun" search terms leads to the U2 song (right or wrong), but a large majority of the articles on the disam page are in fact "songs". Would you consider renaming your new article Staring at the Sun (TV on the Radio song) to avoid future confusion? Thanks for your input, I've watchlisted your talkpage; you can respond here or on my talkpage. Keeper | 76 23:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick response (and I've got you beat, I've been on Wik for about 9 hours now :-) I went ahead and redirected "Staring at the Sun (song)" back to the disambiguation page that already existed at "Staring at the Sun (disambiguation)". If you haven't already, I'll check the disam page to be sure it has a link back to the new article you created today. Thanks again, happy editing, Keeper | 76 23:28, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia (even in the category you created!), it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 22:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, it's simply that there are standard naming conventions for stub categories and templates, and size thresholds for the categories. There's no problem with this stub type's naming, since you copied it from an existing template, but normally categories aren't made until we're sure there are plenty of stubs (small stub categories actually make more work for editors looking for articles to expand). This one's probably perfectly okay - certainly it's far better than some unproposed stub types we've seen. Also, since WP:WSS does most of the work as far as actually sorting the stubs is concerned, it makes sense if we're "in the loop" as far as knowing what stub types exist or are likely to be created. Disambig in titles (EP vs album)[edit]

I just saw that you moved Night of the Living Dead (EP) to Night of the Living Dead (The Misfits album) with the reason 'Standardization of bla bla bla'. (EP) is in fact a standard disambig, as can be noted on the WikiProject Album's naming guidelines. -Joltman (talk) 14:09, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

^H[edit]

It doesn't? John Vandenberg (talk) 03:30, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the extra detail - I've not seen that guideline until now :-) Personally, I think "^H" is a recognisable name for that control character; to me it is more recognisable than trying to figure out what Wikipedians have decided to call the page name. Perhaps the ideal solution is to have a category dedicated to all those redirects - i.e. group them together. John Vandenberg (talk) 04:14, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TfD[edit]

Hello. I saw that you intended to nominate a few templates for deletion. You put the TfD template on the templates, but did not complete steps two and three at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#How to use this page. I've listed them at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 December 23 for you. Cheers, WODUP 07:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I downloaded Scilab and I'm quite confused. Could you help me out and tell me the proper syntax to solve a simple equation such as "5 + x = 8"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by CorrectInfo (talkcontribs) 14:05, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Acamp.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Acamp.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --05:26, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:UW-Madison EH&S Logo.svg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UW-Madison EH&S Logo.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Singles 81–85[edit]

I just saw your comment on the talk page at The Singles 81–85 right as I was about to make the same comment. I'll try and look into seeing if there's any technical issue with titling an article with an arrow.... (Then there would not need to be any irritating hatnote about "technical limitations").

Nice job on tidying up that page with the tracklist template and adding the alternate version. Looks good.

File:Dropkick Murphys-The Early Years back.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Dropkick Murphys-The Early Years back.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. I have nominated Rock the 40 Oz., an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rock the 40 Oz.. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

File permission problem with File:FFADO Logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:FFADO Logo.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 19:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
