Photo on Meteora[edit]

Nothing wrong with the photo itself; I thought that the article had too many pictures that stacked up really ugly. Also, have a look at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial and the concearns addressed there. Etz Haim 10:54, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Your hint[edit]

Thanks --ThomasK 12:41, Nov 28, 2004 (UTC)

Hello H,

you were originally the one to make two distinct pages out of hydrochloric acid and hydrogen chloride. Chemically, that is fully true, and sofar I have gone on with it. The major product is hydrochloric acid, and that has been up for Peer Review for a while now, enhancing to near-complete status. That made the page for hydrogen chloride again for discussion: include that detailed info or not? Please add to the discussion. Wim van Dorst 17:10, 2005 Mar 13 (UTC)

The changes you reverted were announced on Wikipedia:Peer review/Hydrochloric acid/archive1. If you have a reason to keep that sentence, please let me know there. Thanks --jag123 19:21, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi, H, just asking: did you intentionally revert that much on the hydrochloric acid wikipage, an hour ago? Your comment suggests a minor edit. Wim van Dorst 20:14, 2005 Apr 4 (UTC)

Yes, I reverted a number of changes made by User:Harry491, but certainly not everything. Some of his changes were worthwhile improvements and I kept them. Since hydrochloric acid is not a single compound, I reverted back to chemical substance. If Jabir's books were used for centuries afterwards, I think that's worth mentioning. I wanted to keep the emphasis on strong acid meaning practically full dissociation. I wanted to keep the information that monoprotic acids have only one Ka, and keep the conjugate base explanation for chloride. The intermediate to strong concentrations qualifier is needed, because at very dilute solutions [H+] diverges from original [HCl] due to the presence of H+ from water auto-dissociation.
I was also thinking of putting back just a few select things into the 'biology' section in response to Dave's comment, but not the reference changes he suggested - somebody else can do that. After that I plan to put in a paragraph supporting the FA nomination on the FAC page. Do you have any objection. H Padleckas 21:03, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If I had disagreed with your revertion, I would have worded my question here differently. :-) On the other hand, I didn't disagree with most of the changes. Especially where sentences were reworded to give very nice English have my strong support, just as long as the information hardly changes. And adding a little (approx one or two sentences would be sufficient, imho) to the 'bio' section would be ok. BTW is 'physiology' a good subsection title there (I'm not a biologist)? And last but not least, I agree with your putting your support in the FAC page!. Wim van Dorst 21:17, 2005 Apr 4 (UTC)
I've just finished adding a couple select things back into the "Hydrochloric acid and living organisms" section ("Physiology" subsection) as recommended by Dave on the FAC page. I think this section now looks excellent. I think the "Hydrochloric acid and living organisms" section titles and subtitles are fine; "Physiology" is as good a title as any for this subsection. The way the article stands now, I consider it ready for my statement of support for Feature Article. H Padleckas 22:24, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thionyl chloride[edit]

Thanks a lot for starting this off! I have been meaning to write a page on this for ages, then I noticed suddenly that one of my many links to this compounds came out in blue!

I was going to mention, if you get time to write any more of these, I am trying to get inorganics to follow a template which you can see here, which is alternatively shown under inorganic stylesheet1. I developed this recently as a shorter form of the template, tailored for inorganics where I didn't want to include all of the detailed information that might be found (say) under hydrochloric acid.

I'm really glad there are others making contributions to these compounds, thanks again. Walkerma 17:23, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

German chemicals page[edit]

H, are you familiar with this German list of compounds? It shows that the German Wikipedia is way ahead of the English version in terms of coverage of compounds. They don't seem to have many pretty pictures, though, as far as I can see! Walkerma 06:30, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Upon seeing your remark above, I have taken a look at it. The German Wikipedia has small chemical structure images for most of the important compounds in its chemical articles, as far as I've noticed. I have previously used a German styrene pic from the WikiCommons.

Chess (start of Wikipedia tournament 1 -from Gkhan)[edit]

The rules for play are standard rules of chess. Each contestant will be paired off with another one and play one game. The games will be played in the contestants user-space (this isn't final yet, but probably) using the chess template. The winner will go on to the next round, and so on (so 32 will become 16, to 8 to 4 to 2 and finally a winner). If you have any other questions you are welcome to ask me. Gkhan 11:04, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

Chess again (my 1st tournament 1 game - from Gkhan, Dysprosia)[edit]

Hi, I'd just like to let you know that the chess tournament has started. You will play User:Dysprosia. Look at the rules, decide with your opponent what colour you will play, and then start playing! If you have any questions either ask me or try Wikipedia talk:Chess championship. Good luck! Gkhan 23:58, May 15, 2005 (UTC)

Would you like to play white or shall I? Dysprosia 00:13, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You don't need to notify me on Talk that you moved -- I'm watching the game page :) Thanks Dysprosia 01:27, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for Deletion (Wikipedia chess championship)[edit]

Hi; I'm sorry to be bothering you concerning this, but Wikipedia:Chess championship is up for a VfD. Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Chess_championship Please vote to keep this thing alive... this is so lame that I need to ask people to help out here. Linuxbeak | Desk 03:45, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

Table of names in Isomers of Butylene[edit]

Hello, the changes you made to the table of names at Isomers of Butylene breaks the layout for me using firefox. In particular, with the "float" attribute the table ends up orphaned at the bottom of the page. Does this render correctly for you? Osmodiar 11:00, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The page looks alright to me the way it is right now on my computer screen. Are you wondering why I put a number of extra blank lines after the "Table of names" code on the editing page? I put those extra blank lines in because without them, I get an unsightly narrow column of writing between the "Table of names" on the left side and the stack of structure images on the right side of the page. The series of blank lines I inserted was a quick fix to push the writing down below the "Table of names", where there is more room for wider paragraphs. I use America OnLine (AOL), which seems to have a narrower window (or screen) width than what some other internet service providers I've seen use. Later I plan to add a "Table of Properties" as seen for many other chemical compounds in Wikipedia, except this one will have all four compounds across the width of the page and the individual property names listed on the left side of the table from the top to the bottom of the table.
If you can think of a solution to this layout problem which makes the layout look good for both of us, go ahead and implement it. There may be layout tricks I don't know about. H Padleckas 18:28, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

for me the problem is the table ends up at the end of the article, after all the text, or in some cases even overlaying the text. I removed the "float" attribute once, which fixed the problem for me, but you replaced it this morning, so I assume my attempt broke the layout in your browser. It seems that both cases are wrong. It needs fixing, but I am not qualified to do it. Osmodiar 18:54, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
OK, check it out now. I think I fixed it up reasonably. Tell me whether it looks ok. H Padleckas 19:24, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
That fixed it here. Osmodiar 19:31, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've set it up. The game is at Wikipedia:Chess championship/Tournament 1/Double-Elimination/Game 7. Good luck! -- Natalinasmpf 06:13, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Acetic acid[edit]

Henry, Nice job on the edits yesterday, thanks. Regarding your comment about the article being a trifle long, I have put a few thoughts here, what do you think? Are there other spefific parts you'd like to see cut back, or is it just a general feeling that it's a bit long overall? Thanks, Walkerma 04:38, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Block[edit]

You're unblocked now. The vandal who was using your IP kept vandalizing John Kerry, and after I blocked him, you must have accessed Wikipedia through the same AOL proxy server, so you were hit by the autoblocker. I apologize for the inconvinience, but sometimes that's the only way to make them stop... again, sorry, and happy editing. Titoxd(?!?) 05:20, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Like any good capitalist, I was just trying to send you business. Foot traffic through your page should have gone up by 50% with the link in the header. Thought you could really sell your information. Sorry for trying. :)) David91 13:38, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was blocked because my IP address (My IP address is 205.188.117.8.) corresponds to the "MF Juggernaut bitch" vandal?, but I am not this vandal/user and I practically never edit unless I am using my "H Padleckas" user name. Unfortunately, the only internet access I usually have is through AOL, which apparently has multiple users for some IP addresses. Please unblock

Hi Henry, I'm adding some data to tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) but the article still doesn't have a picture. Would you care to give it a go? Wim van Dorst 21:35, 26 November 2005 (UTC).[reply]

License tagging for Image:Globevalve.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Globevalve.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:04, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

It seems to me that the problem here is someone picked a bad user name. In such a case, it seems logical to me to just block the user name itself only, but not the IP address. I've already been blocked several times merely because of faulty user names. In all of those cases, including this one, I was not the one who created the bad user name.
