If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on HackingEDU requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Question regarding First Article[edit]

I created a page called HackingEDU, which is now blocked. Before I request an unblock, I believe I should change the name of my username, as it does not comply with the username policy. Therefore, after I change my username, I will request an unblock explaining that I understand what I did wrong and that I will not do those mistakes again. I was wondering if these are the correct steps to take? Thanks! HackingEDUsf (talk) 20:24, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, the IRC channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 20:28, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually that's the wrong way around. You can propose a new username along with the unblock request, though you will still have to add the actual unblock request to WP:Changing username/Simple once you are unblocked. You currently cannot edit either that page or the Teahouse since you are blocked. Doing so while logged out might be considered block evasion, and username change requests that aren't added to that page by the logged-in user won't be acted on anyway. So the block is the first issue you should deal with. The block message box below gives instructions on how to do so. Huon (talk) 20:43, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Username Change and Unblock Request[edit]

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I will use Wikipedia responsibly; the reason I made repeated, spam-like edits is because I read that in order to move a page, I needed to be an active user and have made at least 10 edits. Additionally, I did not read the username policy thoroughly prior to making my current username. I promise to not make these mistakes again. If I were to be unblocked, I will make edits in an unbiased manner and check the page that I created, HackingEDU, to see that it was written without bias. When looking at other Wikipedia articles and I find a need for an edit, I will assure that the edit is appropriate. Moreover, I am not paid to create the HackingEDU page and I believe that the page should be made a Wikipedia article so the public will understand what the organization is about; I am in no interest to promote HackingEDU. I can provide outside sources to validate the existence of this organization as well.

Decline reason:

You are not going to be unblocked if you intend to recreate the HackingEDU article that was speedy-deleted. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:41, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Instruction Help[edit]

After writing my reason for the unblock request and username change (above), the message below was added: 'Blocked editor: Please also follow these instructions to help administrators locate your block in the logs. Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).' I clicked on the link and tried following the instructions where it told me to go to my Sandbox and 'copy the "unblock-auto" code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section.' However, when I click into my Sandbox, it says this:

This user is currently blocked. The latest block log entry is provided below for reference: etc etc...

Acroterion (talk | contribs) blocked HackingEDUsf (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked, autoblock disabled......)

This does not match with what I was asked to copy and paste into the talk page. What do I do next? HackingEDUsf (talk) 21:11, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have no experience with any of this, but my guess, upon reading the documentation is that the last section does not apply because autoblock has been disabled for you. I would leave it blank for now, but I am leaving the helpme tag up in case someone knows more. Good luck! Happy Squirrel(Please let me know how to improve!) 21:41, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "HackingEDUsf", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|I dream of horses}} to your message. (talk to me) (contributions) @ 06:05, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

May 2015[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Acroterion (talk) 06:27, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
