A quick note[edit]

I undid some of your recent edits to re-include the categories that you removed. Generally, categories refer to what something is or was so companies no longer around are still in the categories that best fit. It's the same logic as to why Charles Dickens is in Category:English novelists even though he's long dead or that Seaboard Coast Line Industries (gone since 1980) is listed under Category:United States railroad holding companies still. —Mikemoral♪♫ 02:57, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A word about categories[edit]

Hello Halfacat, my name is Howicus. I appreciate what you're trying to do with mining company categories, but there's a little quirk of the category system that you need to know about. Categories contain other sub-categories. An article should only be in the lowest-level, most specific category possible. Take, for example, Lundin Mining. Now, Lundin Mining is in [[Category:Copper mining companies of Canada]]. And Copper mining companies of Canada is in the larger category [[Category:Copper mining companies by country]], which is itself in the even larger [[Category:Copper mining companies]] (I could keep going, but you get the idea). And since Lundin Mining is in the first category, it's already in the others, and the other categories shouldn't be put on the Lundin Mining page. I hope this explains things well, feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. Howicus (talk) 03:54, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
