Editing with a possible conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Haywon123. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.--SamHolt6 (talk) 23:04, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for sockpuppetry

Request reason:

First, I want to apologize for the disruptions on Wikipedia. It was not my intention. I am only here on Wikipedia to improve and contribute to it for free, not to cause any damage. The account "Musiclover20199" is for a roommate of mine, and it could be the reason behind the IP address conflict. He started the account a while ago, but he did not have time to commit to editing on Wikipedia. Since everyone is in quarantine now, my roommate was looking for something to do, and he got back to Wikipedia, and I was personally trying to take him through the steps about how to edit on Wikipedia so he can get started. However, he did a mistake and accidentally deleted the issues that was added by User:GSS. He tried to undo it, but it was too late, GSS has seen it by then. Another point is that I was trying to edit the page myself as well, and this is how sockpuppet was defined since it looked like both of us are editing the page at the same time. Again, I want to deeply apologize about this, it was not my intention, and I promise that this will never ever happen again. I understand what caused the issue, and I strongly apologize about it. I will make sure to not have Haywon123 interfere with Musiclover20199 or vice versa. Please let me know if you need any further information so I can prove it for you. Haywon123 (talk) 16:15, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

So having looked at the data, while I personally don't buy the two people physically on the same device explanation, there's the issue that you're working to actively move what appears to be a paid draft created by another blocked user into mainspace. If you wish to edit again my suggestion is to wait six months with no edits, and file an appeal again at that time. TonyBallioni (talk) 05:46, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I've fixed your unblock request for you. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:07, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you, and your roomate also share the same computer? This looks almost identical to the request at User_talk:YrwannaHommV. Are you able to explain that? SQLQuery me! 15:43, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any other roommate accounts that you would want to disclose? SQLQuery me! 16:41, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SQL, thank you for getting back to me. I have no clue who User_talk:YrwannaHommV is. He/She is not one of my roommates. I only have one roommate with the username of "Musiclover20199." We don't share computers all the time, however, we use each other's computers from time to time. I am not sure about the exact number of times he logged in to his account using my computer, but I believe it was like around 5 times as far as I can remember. Regarding User_talk:YrwannaHommV, I have no idea who this user is. It looks to me like User_talk:YrwannaHommV stole my message, and copied/pasted my unblock request message as it was theirs. I am not sure if you can put this in plagiarism, but I believe it is. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you again for getting back to me, I really appreciate it

That's fair, and likely based on checkuser results. I can say, from a technical perspective at least, it appears you and Musiclover20199 have used an identical device for every single edit - which prompted my question. SQLQuery me! 17:21, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SQL, thank you for your prompt reply. Maybe it looks that way because we are both connected to the same internet router? I am honestly not sure why this is how it looks on your technical perspective. But, all I can say is that haywon123 is my only account, and I was just trying to be a good user on Wikipedia and helping my roommate to become a Wikipedia user through contributing to some of the pages that I have been watching. It was not my intention to sockpuppet in any mean. However, this ended up going into the wrong direction, and I deeply apologize about that.

Well, this is not the first time both accounts edited together. On March 27, Musiclover20199 removed notability tag from Draft:Liza Jane (singer), and you moved the draft to main on April 4. In September 2019‎ Musiclover20199 created Draft:Naseem Alatrash and moved it to main on 14th and a day after you added some cats and a photo of the subject. On 6th April you removed maintenance tags from Andrew Andraos and on 8th Musiclover20199 repeated the same edit. I also suspect you are Flickrwashing on Commons. These two images were published on Flickr the same day you uploaded them on commons-wiki so, how you managed to find them? and why all those people started uploading their images on Flickr after you and Musiclover20199 started creating articles about them? To me, this looks like a case of undisclosed paid editing. GSS💬 18:48, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GSS, thank you for your message. Regarding the edits between Musiclover20199 and my account haywon123, I have been collaborating with my roommate and helping him get used to Wikipedia through editing these pages thinking that this would be useful for the pages. However, it ended up being harmful, and I apologize about that. I did not know how harmful this could be, but now I know and I am aware that I should not be doing this again since it will be considered as sockpuppetry. I also sent you an apology email yesterday clarifying everything with more details. I hope you received it. Regarding the undisclosed paid editing. I am not getting paid to do any of this work. I am just a big fan of music, and I always try to find new artists and help them through creating Wikipedia pages for those who I feel qualify. Sometimes, I contact artists asking which picture they would like to use on Wikipedia, and I usually advise them to release their pictures through their account on Flickr, and this is why Flickr shows the same date of release as the picture is out. I am not Flickrwashing, or creating fake Flickr accounts in the purpose of scamming the artists pictures. If I get unblocked, I will make sure to get in touch with you and other great contributors here regarding any questions related to any of the pages that I am editing/creating as a way of clarifying things and avoid any misleading. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I totally understand your concern, and again my apology for all this mess and harm that I caused on here. My only intention was to be a good user/contributor on Wikipedia and helping the Wikipedia community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haywon123 (talkcontribs) 19:07, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hello, I am writing again to see if there is any possibility that I can get unblocked on Wikipedia. I totally understand what I did wrong and I deeply apologize about that. I understand that I should not have used another account for editing a page, and I promise to not do it ever again. I never had any intention in doing sockpuppetry. My only intention was to help my roommate as stated in my previous unblock request. As I promised you before, and as you advised me to do, I have not edited or even tried to edit any page for the past six months. I am only here on Wikipedia to improve and contribute to it for free, not to cause any damage. I am willing to sign a contract and/or do whatever it takes to prove that to you. I hope you can unblock me so I can commit to my promise. Thank you for your time and consideration. Decline reason:

Based on the concerns surrounding that article, I don't feel comfortable unblocking you to allow you to go back to editing it. If you agree to not attempt to bring back the Andrew Andraos page and also the 6 months article creation ban you self-suggested, I'd feel more comfortable with unblocking. only (talk) 15:48, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you are unblocked, what do you plan to edit? only (talk) 13:30, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Only, thank you for your message. I will only try to bring back the page "Andrew Andraos" which was deleted after this sockpuppetry block, and will be editing random pages that need edit on Wikipedia. I will only be using my account haywon123 to do anything on Wikipedia even if it was for just a small edit. I will not be creating any new page until at least 6 months from now. I want to prove to you that my real intention is not to cause any damage on Wikipedia, and that I am only here to serve the community rather than harm it. Would that be okay? Please let me know (Haywon123 (talk) 15:22, 4 October 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Hi Only, do you mind telling me why am I not allowed to bring back a page that was previously approved and published on Wikipedia? What makes you not comfortable about it? There are many other pages that you deleted and/or moved back to draft, and I am not planning to bring back any of those pages. "Andrew Andraos" was the first article that I ever created on Wikipedia, and that is the only article that I would like to see if we can bring back. Besides that, I will be editing random articles on Wikipedia, nothing will be something that I created or will create. I am not sure why you are treating me like I committed crime on here. All I am trying to be is a good contributor on Wikipedia. Sockpuppetry was never my intention and I am really sorry that it ended up being that. Please let me know the reason for not allowing me to ask for "Andrew Andraos" to be at least in the draft again. I am willing to communicate with GSS about that article too if that helps. Your draft article, Draft:Chianne

[edit]

Hello, Haywon123. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Chianne".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:55, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, UnitedStatesian, you can go ahead and delete this article. Thank you for letting me know about it. (Haywon123 (talk) 05:29, 29 November 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Hello, I am writing again to see if there is any possibility I can get unblocked from Wikipedia. I promise that I will be a good Wikipedia contributor and that I will not be sockpuppeting ever again. Again, it was never my intention to sockpuppet and I deeply apologize about that. Is there any way you could consider me for an unblock?

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. signed, Rosguill talk 19:24, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hello, I am writing to ask if there is any possibility to get my account unblocked. To be honest, I never knew about sockpuppetry, and I understand that what I did is unethical and against Wikipedia's terms. My intention was never to sockpuppet, and I deeply apologize about my behavior and the damage I caused. I promise that I will be a good user and make significant contribution on this wonderful and knowledgeable platform, and that I will be doing my best to serve the Wikipedia's community overall. I also promise to never create or use any account to sockpuppet or cause any disruption on Wikipedia, this is last thing I would want as you do as well. It's been 8 months since I was blocked, and I hope you can approve my unblock request so I can contribute to the community in a responsible manner. I will start by contributing to articles that need edit on the Community portal (such as "Fix spelling and grammar", and I am hoping that this is a way to build trust with you and the whole community again.
My apologies again for my misbehavior and the damage I caused. Thank you for taking the time to review my request

Decline reason:

As with only, above, I'm uncomfortable unblocking you without your commitment to refrain from the Andrew Andraos page and also the 6 months article creation ban. As you have not yet committed to this, I decline the unblock request. Yamla (talk) 12:21, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
