Need to learn referencing[edit]

Hi Helios007, your edits to the article on ma are appreciated. However, there is one area of improvement that needs immediate attention from you - how to cite and reference! At present, the way that you are adding references are not satisfactory. Use of single square brackets around a url is not the authorised WP:MOS way to cite a reference.

You need to use cite templates instead. The most useful of the cite templates is <ref>{{cite web|url= |title= |author= |date= |website= |access-date=}}</ref>. By filling in the details and placing this after the full stop of the sentence that it references, you can ensure that it comes in the list of references below the article.

Besides "cite web", there are many others:

  • For book: <ref name="">{{cite book |title= |last= |first= |authorlink= |coauthors= |year= |publisher= |location= |isbn= |page= |pages= |url= |access-date=4 June 2021}}</ref>. See this page.
  • For website: <ref name="">{{cite web |url= |title= |author= |date= |work= |publisher= |access-date=4 June 2021 |archive-url= |archive-date=|url-status=live}}</ref>' See this page.
  • For research paper: '<ref name="">{{cite journal |last1= |first1= |last2= |first2= |year= |title= |journal= |publisher= |volume= |issue= |pages= |url= |doi= |access-date=2 June 2021}}</ref> See this page.
  • For audio-visual media: <ref name="">{{cite AV media |people= |date= |title= |trans-title= |medium= |language= |url= |access-date= |archive-url= |archive-date= |format= |time= |location= |publisher= |id= |isbn= |oclc= |quote= |ref= }}</ref> See this page.
  • For a report: <ref name="">{{cite report |author= |author-link= |authors= |date= |title= |url= |publisher= |page= |docket= |access-date=21 May 2021 |quote= }}</ref> See this page.
  • For a news report: <ref name="">{{cite news |title= |author= |url= |newspaper= |date= |access-date=2 June 2021}}</ref> See this page.

If you give a reference a name, then the same reference can be re-used by using <ref name="your_name"/> wherever you need it instead of duplicating the citation many times.

You can learn more about citation and references at WP:CITE.

Happy editting :), AshLin (talk) 06:18, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there thanks for your suggestions, I am new to this wiki and there are little to no reference available for this tank outside. I am using pdfs released by the DRDO and OFB as an source for writing. Wikipedia does not allow pdf containing links as an reference thats an main issue over here. Helios007 (talk) 07:22, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What gives you the impression that links to PDF documents are not supported? Fabrickator (talk) 07:47, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oops I encountered the problem because I copied the wrong link! Sorry! Helios007 (talk) 08:02, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages![edit]

Hello, Helios007. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!
Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. Message added by Vhhhhjhgy (talk) 07:31, 4 June 2021 (UTC). (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template).[reply]

Hlo there,
Thanks for your answer it helped me a lot. And I would like to know how to protect images from being deleted by some strangers even though provided with enough documents to support the image?. Everytime I upload an image to the Wikipedia some one delete it without proper reason. Is there anyway to prevent it? Thank you! Helios007 (talk) 08:10, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have also responded to your question at the Teahouse – you should not upload the source document to Commons (or to Wikipedia), but add a citation to the source itself. More info in your Teahouse thread, which has been restored (please don't remove it, it will be archived in a day or two). Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 08:17, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:ARJUN THERMOBARIC ROUND.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ARJUN THERMOBARIC ROUND.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Request[edit]

I've seen that you have made unsourced edits on Arjun(tank) article, please don't vandalize it with unnecessary information please it's a request, it took me more than a week to rewrite that article section by section, sentence by sentence. You might know how mess it was before, it's frustrating to see that someone is giving no respect to your work and trying to make it look like what it was before. Please don't discourage --Echo1Charlie (talk) 08:47, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This page was ver messed up and was plagued by Western guys as u told, I appreciate your work, and I would like to post all the reference before editing the Wikipedia page, u may tell which one is needed and which one is not. Helios007 (talk) 09:08, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

the block is no longer necessary because i understood the reason for such problem and will not reapt this in future, the cause of the problem was lack of co-ordination between the editors, now it's been restored ,so I think that this block is not necessary

Request reason:

the block is no longer necessary because, the problem has been resolved through proper communication between editors, the root of the problem was deletions of my paragraphs which had strog citation proof of the statements, the reasons told by the person @Echo1Charlie and @FORMALDUDE are the roots of the problem. Here is my article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1034019505 how ever they deleted the entire para with proper reasoning, just made an statement "IT IS UNNECESSARY" which can't be acceptable at all, I had even left many chats on their talk page but there was no response at all, I re-upload that article but again he deleted that without any proper response , without asking any citations or anything this loop was repeated again and again until it was ended few hours ago through proper reasoning from the @Echo1Charlie, Helios007 (talk) 13:50, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
