Welcome, civility, etc

[edit]

You're welcome, and most certainly you're not overstepping; the whole rationale for welcome messages is to encourage people to ask such questions from "old hands". I'm not familiar with the editor you mention, but a glance at his talk page gives a pretty similar impression to the one you mention. It should be bourne in mind that Wikipedia is not censored, but editors are required to be civil to each other, and certainly not to engage in personal attacks, and he's sailing rather close to wind on that, at least. Those persisting in incivility can be blocked, but it's preferable to try the dispute resolution process first, perhaps "Wikiquette alerts" in cases like this, if you can't resolve it directly with the users already involved. He seems to be fairly new here himself, effectively only editing regularly for the past month, so I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume for now he's in the "boisterous newbie" category, rather than necessarily a "problem user".

You might wish to sign up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics where among other things, you may find other editors with similar "guilty pleasures", that are more agreeable; similar "wikiprojects" exist for various other areas of interest and ongoing tasks. If you've any other questions, please don't hestitate to ask, and I'm sure you'll find the majority of other Wikipedians helpful to your concerns as well. Alai 06:03, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please revert yourself

[edit]

I have explained on the talk page for Michael Schiavo that your changes are not helpful in providing the reader with Information. Please revert yourself. -- Pinktulip 16:38, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not interested in futher discussing a talk page that is already far too long. I provide information that I feel some significant fraction of the readship wants to know. I do so in an NPOV manner and I am willing to further discuss the article content as I last left it. -- Pinktulip 16:48, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In this particular case, I fear that a significant fraction of the readership will make the "nice" but incorrect assumption. I am trying to help the reader see the Truth clearly. As it stands, it is not quite perflectly clear to the readership what is going on in Michael's life. They have to try hard to put two and two together. It both emphasizes the difficulties that he was under and the compromises (however slight that you as an individual might think that they are) that he was willing to make. We can never what his values were, but to the extent possible, I want the man in all of his complexity. -- Pinktulip 17:00, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ozymandias

[edit]

You've got the title wrong, it's just "Ozymandias." If you want to let people know he was Egyptian, that should be put somewhere else. Ozymandias is his Greek name, anyway.

Please Stop the Personal Attacks

Miscommunication (copy from Daredevil:Talk)

[edit]

I was pretty shocked to hear you say that somehow my language has been crass or whatnot. I mean, Tenebrae doesn't like me much but I think even he'd have a hard time saying I speak like a sailor. And so I went back and read the archive of the Talk page here, and noticed you freaked out over the phrase "Put Your Knickers On, Sally". You seem to think this implies oral sex or somesuch, to which I would respond to you that that is so far outside the realm of meaning of what we were talking about that Im puzzled how you came to that conclusion. As a tip for a new user of Wikipedia, if you feel something isn't right, you should probably ask that person what is meant by it, instead of attacking them in a variety of ways over a misunderstanding.

The worst of my verbal transgressions, it would appear, is having called Tenebrae pepe (which is about as non-insulting a non-insult can get, but I never used it again, did I Tenebrae?), and that I said something about a virgin brigade. Which was funny, come on people. If anything, I've been the voice of reason around here lately, doing my best to spark discussion and working to make the entry better.

And what do I get for my troubles? Tenebrae thinking I'm harassing him because I disagree with an edit, and you throwing just about every generic insult you've got my way. That I'm 14 years old? That I need a girlfriend? Christ. Those stock comic-book reader insults never get tired do they?

Anyway, long story short, you're completely off the mark re:the interpretation of my "knickers" comments. And certainly, I would have welcomed you to ask me what I meant by them if you interpreted them so differently. I would have been happy to explain why I saw them as innocuous. Hell I would even have changed them for you.

And really again, you sell yourself short by saying "as a woman...". Being a woman is not a handicap! Be proud! We're all equal here.

Lastly, though, I am grotesquely offended by your actions, and so I am taking this to the admins. When I've followed through on this, Ill be sure to post a note on your Talk page to inform you.

Cheers! GodzillaWax 16:42, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore

[edit]

I noticed the following in one of your contributions on the Talk:Gorilla page: I think User:70.50.52.172 is very out of line in calling anyone names; there's no reason for it, and it just makes people solidify their positions against you, so why do it? - Herculaneum 14:13, 10 February 2006 (UTC) To which you followed up that the person in question with whom you were talking might be a "wikipedia troll". You gave great advice that you seem to consistently violate. Name-calling, as you pointed out, has no place on wikipedia, so I would whole-heartedly suggest you stop doing it. Even More

[edit]

From User:Alai's Talk Page: There's a teenager over there called GodzillaWax, though, who uses a lot of really ugly, vulgar language -- Beavis and Butthead stuff about oral sex This is starting to become amusing. I've never said anything about oral sex. And what exactly is it that has given you your humorously off-the-mark insight into my age? Clearly that you are here on wikipedia at all means you count among your finest qualities an ability to read. I would suggest you use it to review the wiki guides on conduct.
