Labelling or labeling[edit]

Environmental racism in Europe: Edits[edit]

Hi Herfrid,

This is a friendly notification to inform you that one of your edits has been reverted in the Environmental racism in Europe article. Most of your edits were deemed helpful. One edit, however, has been changed.

Please note that I made several minor changes to my edit summary (via undoing and re-doing my edit). Wording is tricky here and I made a few errors in my haste to provide a timely correction. In summary, Romani, Yenish, Irish Traveller, and Indigenous (Komi, Nenets, Sami) groups are distinct from racialized immigrant / migrant / other racialized minority groups, because they were living in Europe hundreds or even thousands of years prior to the existence of the modern European states (and their constitutions) that exist now. Immigrant / migrant groups are much more recent arrivals generally, and therefore generally have a different political status. These distinctions are widely written about, and can be found in the references used for the article, and in the main Wikipedia articles about Romani people, Irish Travellers, Indigenous groups in Europe, etc.

Also...see the talk page for the article, which provides a link for things to read up on prior to making changes to articles concerning race / ethnicity / gender / identity. It is easy to simply revert without giving a rationale to save time and energy, but not giving rationales can be very problematic. Please ensure that you understand the material well before making changes! Introductory sentences are very important (which is why I was in such a rush to correct it), and are thus quite sensitive to minor changes in wording. Classifying Romani people (or Indigenous groups for that matter) in the same category as recent immigrant groups is all but guaranteed to be reverted.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Herfrid. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
