Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 07:52, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how that was an inappropriate link. The link wasn't for advertising or promotion. Sure, it was a personal website, but by a professional historian, who discussed the sources, and is by far the best source on the topic because it was actually researched. The alternative woudl be to scan birth, death, and marriage certificates, as well as census data and the like. Which would still have to be hosted somewhere. As the above note says, an inappropriate link includes a link to a website with which you are affiliated. If you think the link has value for the encyclopedia, then you can use the talk page to explain why you think it should be included and let another editor review and decide if they agree. Please see the conflict of interest guidelines as well. Thank you Melcous (talk) 21:30, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've noted that you did sort of do this on Talk:Poker Alice and John B123 has already pointed you to WP:COI and WP:OR. If your own website is based on your own research then it is unlikely to be considered a reliable independent source. Melcous (talk) 21:33, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
