Answers to your questions

[edit]

For Heidi:

  • I don't think you can cite email. Wikipedia wants information from sources available to the public. Maybe Dr. Rubin could provide some citations.
  • I think the Duke website is a credible source and can be cited.
  • These are good questions for the Wikipedia Teahouse. This is like a chat room where you can ask questions and more experienced editors will provide answers. They're usually pretty quick. Search for WP:teahouse J.R. Council (talk) 06:19, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For Brittany:

  • He is a well-known figure and quite productive. I'm sure you will be able to find good information from his articles and books. Also see below.

For Kelsey:

  • Information on living persons can be found in a number of sources: publishers' blurbs and university websites, for example. Also, people like Rubin have probably gotten awards - if the awards information has been published, background info will appear there. Google him, and also do a Google Scholar search.

Task Discussion

[edit]
  • Heidi's Tasks- I will be in charge of our contact with David Rubin, so if you need specific information from him let me know. For the article, I will focus on David's Academia, Awards/honors, and current career. I will talk about where he went to school and what he studied there. I then will talk about his careers he has held up until the present. Fianlly, I will put together a list of honor's.awards he has received in list form. If need be, I will contribute to the introduction or summary as well! Hmerickson (talk) 18:56, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Kelsi's tasks- I will be working on gathering more information on David's early life and helping to develop his article to be to its full potential
  • Brittany's tasks- I will be working on gathering information about his past and current research. Mostly involving autobiographical memory, long term memory, and memory in oral traditions.

Kelsi and Brittany- Just add to the sections already started above!

Nice start!

[edit]

Good start on this. Brittany, edit what Heidi and Kelsey have written. Don't start new sections. Remember to sign your contribution. J.R. Council (talk) 05:05, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect!

[edit]

You guys did everything right for this assignment. I like that you're getting in touch with Rubin. Good luck, and let me know what you learn. J.R. Council (talk) 22:19, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You need to start working on this.

[edit]
  • Sorry for the delay, I know we all had a lot going on this week!! Let me know if what I have done is efficient enought for the assignment!

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hmerickson (talkcontribs) 01:20, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Heidi, Brittany, and Kelsey - this assignment is worth 25 points. It does require some effort, so you need to start working on it now. J.R. Council (talk) 22:52, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Council's comments on Assignment 7

[edit]

You've done a good job of getting content written into the sandbox! Hopefully you will find a way to cite Dr. Rubin's biographical information that he provided. For Assignment 8, keep adding to the information - remember to work from the outline and fill in gaps. Also, work on formatting it the way you'd like it to look in the main article. J.R. Council (talk) 22:42, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Better, but not ready to publish

[edit]

You are adding good material, but things seem pretty unorganized. Please work to make more sense out of this. Use section and subsection heads. The most important part of a Wikipedia article is the introductory paragraph. Please work on this, if you do nothing else. Follow this link to the page on intro para. [[1]] J.R. Council (talk) 05:47, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Again, the introductory section needs work. Write a better introductory paragraph so that it gives a good overview of the article. Wikipedia intro paras appear in Google searches, so they are important. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section
  2. Also, don't refer to him by his first name. Give his full name at the beginning, then just use his last name. J.R. Council (talk) 20:43, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Be sure to proofread carefully. I see grammatical errors and typos. J.R. Council (talk) 20:46, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not much change since my last comments - but not much needed to make this publishable.

[edit]

Please make changes suggested in my last comment. Especially regarding intro section and 'don't call him by his first name.' In general, good proofreading is needed. This is easy stuff. I'd like to send the link to Ian, so please make these changes soon. J.R. Council (talk) 03:30, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Good job. I made some minor formatting changes and am sending the link to Ian. You're not quite there yet - I'm sure he will be suggesting some changes.J.R. Council (talk) 21:47, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

[edit]

@Hmerickson, Kmemcc22, and Brittany.michels: Nice work here on this draft. A few things that need to be done before this is finalized @James Council and Ian (Wiki Ed):

  • Adding {{infobox person}} would be a nice improvement to the article. Just add the fields that you could fill in, not the whole template. It's a nice addition to a biographical article, and it gives readers a summary, at a glance, of some key information. (Drop me a note if you want further clarification on how to do that.)
Good suggestion. You should do this. Click on the link to go to the template. J.R. Council (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Still alive today, Rubin is continuing to add to the field of memory and will likely be involved with more publications in the future." - This sort of style isn't common for Wikipedia articles. Simply saying something like "Rubin remains active in the field of memory" or something like that is probably sufficient.
DoneJ.R. Council (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Turn the "Awards and honors" section into a sentence or two and add it to the "career" section.
Looks like you've done this. Profound is the wrong word. I think important or notable is better. J.R. Council (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. J.R. Council (talk) 03:41, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The "Important publications" section is rather long, and it's subjective. Books are notable and commonly listed, but for the rest, what makes them important? If you say these are "his most important articles" then you'd need a source that says they're his most important articles.
"Notable" probably has the same problem as "Important." Maybe "Selected Publications" is best. J.R. Council (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Very close now! Keep plugging away - you are just about ready to move this into main article space. J.R. Council (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know when you do! J.R. Council (talk) 19:00, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
