Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Homecitrusgrower, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Citrus gracilis, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! {{Help me}} I do not understand why you think there is any conflict of interest. I own and write a totally non-commercial website about the botany of citrus, and I was editing a Wiki page about a citrus species and used a couple of my webpages as references. Surely nothing wrong there?

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 22:20, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I do not understand the reason for this block. I am a private individual with an interest in, and considerable knowledge about, the botany of citrus. I have for many years authored a website about the botany of citrus. This is entirely informative with absolutely no commercial interest, no revenue and no advertising. Just me alone, not a business or organisation or group. I was trying to add information to a Wikipedia article about a citrus species which I have described in detail on my website, so I included a reference to those pages. If your objection is solely that my user name is similar to my website name, then I will change it. I am a little disappointed that my first attempt to add to Wikipedia has been rejected.Homecitrusgrower (talk) 20:51, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Well, you did the one thing that signifies a spammer quite clearly: you replaced an existing reference with a reference to your own website, matching your username. An automated process detected this, and you were pretty much automatically blocked by an administrator who monitors such things. I see that you were actually just trying to update an existing link to an archive of an old version of your website. We can actually help you with that if there are multiple articles containing the old archived pages -- just ask. In the meantime, we do have an annoying but firmly enforced rule that your username can't be the same as that of a company, website, organization, etc. So you need to do the username change thing, as described in the block notice above, and then we can discuss what to do about those stale old links. And sorry for the harshness, but we really do get a lot of people trying to use Wikipedia for self-promotion. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 00:56, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I have read your username policy which states names are inappropriate if they promote a commercial Web page. I understand your automated process could not detect a non-commercial web page, so I am requesting this change of username. Please confirm it is appropriate and sufficiently different from 'homecitrusgrower'. I intend to edit Wikipedia articles about the botany of citrus species

Accept reason:

Account unblocked, welcome back. Please avoid adding links to your own website - this is perceived as "external link spamming". Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:13, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
