New skiing navbar

I'm fine with taxonomy, as achieved by such a template, Cornellier. I suggest adding Paralympic cross-country skiing and Para-alpine skiing. Thanks for helping out with the forces on sails article. While my contributions to it have been minimal, it's been on my watchlist for several years in the category of "man, we gotta fix this thing someday." I strongly encourage you to start fresh with a clean slate. No one owns this article so please be bold with your draft.

Thanks, also, for the compliments about Lift (force). I'm one of the main editors for that article and did a major re-org about five years ago along the lines of what you are proposing. Forces on sails invitation

Many thanks for your invitation to take part in the discussion on the Forces on sails article. I assume this is down to my Wikiproject Sailing membership, as I don't recall editing the article in the past.

Right now I don't have the time to invest a lot of effort in the article, but it is certainly one which I will put at the top of the list. Having taken a quick read through, it seems quite terrifyingly abstract for the most part, and in a way that makes me think that the authors were probably students working on it as a way of improving their own knowledge rather than real experts... although perhaps I shouldn't make these assumptions without spending the time going through the history. That aside, a lot of the equations and workthroughs seem very inelegantly presented, and often far too detailed for an article of this type. A lot of the diagrams seem almost deliberately complex. The whole thing needs condensing down in to something which could be read and understood by someone with, say, an average physics/engineering degree level understanding of fluid mechanics, and no more than an hour or so to spend digesting it. It is a long old way from that! Yes, I have the knowledge to get my head round it, but it would represent hours and hours of work to read and understand it. That needs to change! Unfortunately, the work to condense it would be many hours more than you would need just to understand it...

You're right to try to get this article in shape, and I'm glad someone is trying. In a few months I will have some time to invest in it, and I hope I can be of some use then. Interesting things look to be happening in the sandbox, and when I start editing I will make sure not to duplicate effort, or undo anyone's hard work.

Thank you for your kind words, Cornellier. I looked at the two ADK articles—a topic dear to my heart—and feel that they are sufficiently distinct to warrant separate articles. One is geographic and physical, the other is a human institution. The mountains would remain if we were not longer here, whereas the park would cease to exist. I'll check in later on those topics. The OFFICIAL term IS "Unenrolled", for "no political affiliation" in the Bay State=...

Dear HopsonRoad:

The PIPE Here...I've voted in Massachusetts since 1976, and if a prospective voter in the Bay State does NOT select a political party to vote for in a primary election here — OR wants to revert to an "unaffiliated" status after signing up for a "party vote" IN a primary election — the legal term in the Bay State for an "unaffiliated" voter status, in regards to political parties in elections IS Unenrolled, as shown on election documents and ballots here, so I'm definitely speaking from nearly four decades of voting experience.

You MIGHT want to check here, and see for yourself when you've got the time.

Apologies if you didn't know beforehand...the Bay State DOES have its peculiarities, about many things.

Unenrolled vs. unaffiliated

Hi PIPE, your latest addition to Nantucket puzzled me, i.e. "as stated on ballots issued in Massachusetts communities". I appreciate that candidates have a party affiliation on ballots and that "Unenrolled" is next to the names of those, who might otherwise be designated "Independent." Dear HopsonRoad:

The PIPE Here again - it's primarily because, as I've been TRYING to educate you about, that in Bay State elections, a VOTER also selects a party affiliation when they register to vote - an especially important thing to do before a PRIMARY election, the only place where it generally has any relevance here - and THE choices available are "Democrat", "Republican" OR "Unenrolled", in those exact terms. An "unenrolled" voter in the Bay State can choose either a Democratic OR Republican ballot in a primary, while a voter that's sticking with the "blue-D" or "red-R" all the time only gets that party's primary ballot here. It is ALSO usual practice in Bay State primary elections, when one is through voting and usually registers as an "Unenrolled" voter, to PROMPTLY change back to an "Unenrolled" status right after voting, which can be done right AT the polls on Election Day. That's something I've done for decades, over and over again, and is COMPLETELY normal to do in Bay State elections, for Bay State voters!

I DID notice you're from Vermont...are you interested in your own senator's run for the Presidency in any way yet? It's just that I like him myself, for the most part!

Here's hoping that you're starting to understand the importance and relevance of that "Unenrolled" status in Bay State elections!

Hi Magnolia677, I think that they are good-faith, but naive edits. An area code reflects a large population and can be of note and interest. An exchange is the next identifier down in the telephone number hierarchy, corresponding to a town or neighborhood. The hierarchy in North America is (3-digit area code) 3-digit exchange–4-digit telephone number or (XXX) YYY–ZZZZ. The edits should be reverted, but go gentle on the person making them.
