Why we love jump racing

There are lots of reasons:

• jump horses have racing careers which last up to eight years. This means that they have lots of time to build up a following. The public like their old friends.
• jump races are unpredictable and exciting. Even the best horses can fall.
• less money involved means that relatively ordinary people can own really good horses. Most of the owners are rich, but not super-rich
• there are few championship races, so the best horses have to race against each other.

There are downsides of course. Lots of good horses have been killed in action. Also there isn't much international competition, so we don't know how the best Brritish and Irish horses would match up against horses from USA, Asia and Australia. Tigerboy1966  15:31, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
