Alma 74

Just a heads up, the remnants of Alma redeveloped into Hurricane Joyce in the EPAC, per here. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Kesiny

Wow, that is indeed interesting, and I think you should get it started while you're still interested in it. The way to avoid the POV is to let the sources tell the story. Unfortunately, that either means not going too much into the controversy, or researching deep and representing all sides of the story. Though it was only a Cat. 1, it seems to have been pretty damaging, meaning there should be plenty of info to fill up the article. If you plan on going through with it (and I really recommend you do), be sure you use metric units, and for the Storm history use Meteo-France (MFR) primarily (with JTWC as a secondary source). Here are the MFR advisories. Unfortunately, the best track isn't available. It goes from 1900s to 2000-01, and in recent years they have the best track from 2003-04 to the present. Here are the JTWC products (excluding advisories), and here are the JTWC advisories. Also, there are some goods on the WMO search engine. So, yea, I say go ahead with the article. I personally recommend doing the controversial stuff last, but that's me. Good luck! ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:21, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, not sure what you're up to lately, but I still think you should work on this article. Our coverage on SWIO storms is rather weak at the moment, and it'd be great if we could start getting some articles for the basin. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:31, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Yea, I'm fortunate that I have an alternative to THA through my school (only available to students, though). I look forward to Kesiny. Fausto - meh - it was a cool storm, but it didn't affect anyone; however, I wouldn't mind seeing an article on it. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:Concerning Lidia of 1983

I'd be more than happy to let you work on it. icelandic hurricane #12(talk) 14:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Wow, I didn't realize that storm caused so much damage. I'd say put it all in one article, since the flooding and tornadoes were from the same system. My concern in creating an article on the tornado outbreak would be that there wouldn't be enough info for the Lidia article, so I think they should be combined. Good luck with the project! ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:36, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: 1968

Alright, I gave it a look through. First, is there really enough info to make an article on Liza? It seems that it only caused some high waves, and if that's the case than maybe you should just focus on Pauline. I think some of the sections are a bit too long. If you're worried that Liza would be too long for the article, then you could use Liza as the upper limit for the length of the sections. I'd like a better opening sentence. From what I can tell, it was the first Pacific hurricane season that used satellites to operationally warn on tropical cyclones. If that is correct, that should be the first sentence of the article, and would be DYK worthy. You should double check the MWR. It says that Rebecca had a pressure of 965 mbar and that a ship reported winds of 80 kts, which means some of the article would have to be changed. The writing could use another look through. I'm not sure if it could pass a GA, as some sentences weren't well-written. All in all, nice work. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:04, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, it's your call on Liza. I just imagined that the impact would be fairly redundant (mostly about waves). Also, did you double check the MWR for the season article, and also, did you see if that fact I mentioned was correct? ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:14, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you think you could upload another, smaller version of that image? It is quite a large image, and the top 1/4 could be cropped. However, it links to the Class archive, and the link doesn't work. Cheers. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:13, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, that's a much better image. Heh, yea, Ivan really should not be named ever again. Unfortunately, it's still on one more naming list (East Australia), which will surely do something when it comes around next. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Naomi's rainfall

Selected rainfall totals in Texas
Location Amount
Inches Millimetre
Corpus Christi 8 200
Aransas Pass 3.05 77.5
Camp Wood 2.12 53.8
Uvalde 2.06 52.3
Brackettville 1.31 33.3
San Angelo 1.26 32.0
Rocksprings 1.00 25.4

Something like this would work, given that we don't have a rainfall map. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I left them out, since totals less than 1 inch are pretty unimportant. You already said that rainfall spread across Texas, so they aren't needed IMO. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:42, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd keep the links, and wait for a possible FAC run until the archive is working again. However, it'd be good if you could find some other links with the same info, although that is likely not possible. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:16, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: ..

..... You can't be serious! Alright, I'm really hoping it is just temporary. There have been times in the past where it went down, and we thought it was done for good, but then it came back. I'd say put everything old on hold for now. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:03, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Cristina

I'm gonna say that Cristina 02 was similar to Madeline 98, in which it alone couldn't be said to have caused the damage. Moisture from Madeline contributed to severe flooding in southern Texas. EPAC storms seem to regularly affect the weather in the SW United States (even Norma 70). I wouldn't say they all would be counted as direct impact, but if we find a source that says an EPAC tropical cyclone influenced the weather, than we should include it. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:45, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Naomi

Personally, I don't think it's FA worthy (sorry!). The overall prose is weak, the format looks awkward in the "Impact, records, and naming" section, and some people might have issues on comprehensiveness, given there are only ten sources; those sources are just newspaper sources, meaning the info in the article is 40 years old. Is there any newer info? Don't get discouraged if it doesn't pass. The process can be grueling, and for many it is much easier to go for the button and not the star. BTW, you stole my catchphrase when initiating the nomination! :P ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Liza

Wow, great job with the article. I think we're now in an era where most EPAC storms can have articles, and your work shows that many articles since then can be created. Of course, I was disappointed when that "new article on the WPTC page" wasn't the finished 1968 Pacific hurricane season. Lemme guess, you're going for FT, and you're also going to create Tropical Storm Annette (1968), Tropical Storm Hyacinth (1968), and Hurricane Rebecca (1968). I'd still like and would rather see Alma 74 and Kesiny 02 done, after 1968 PHS is published, of course. It's pretty close to GA, if you give it another run-through of cleaning up. At the very last, I'm sure a GA nom wouldn't fail, although given how backed up the GAN process is right now, it'd be a better bet to be sure it was ready. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Yea, 2002 PHS looks to be a good bet. I'm especially looking forward to Fausto and Julio, and I think ones could also be made for Boris, Ele, Iselle, and Huko. It might be a little hard getting the other FA, but it shouldn't be too bad. I can't wait to see Alma 74 and Kesiny, though, since both are more notable than any 2002 PHS storm without an article. Overall, keep up the good work and article writing. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:00, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Stuff

First, there was a period of two months, I think, where there were several hurricane FPC's. Some passed, and some didn't, but the point was that there was a lot, and it was difficult for people to support a hurricane image for FP status since so many of them looked the same. The size needs to be high resolution, meaning quite big. So, overall, any new featured hurricane images have to be something different and great.

Second, that's fine, I was just checking if that was the case. I don't remember why I asked that in the first place (maybe lede), but it's not important now.

Third, did Simone really strike Guatemala? It looks like it stayed just offshore. But to answer your question, the NHC got it wrong, so the statement was removed. What the NHC said was that Alma was the first tropical storm (>34 kt) to hit Central America. David Roth emailed Eric Blake, so we should get an answer sometime soon.

♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 23:02, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Weird. And it sucks that the storm hasn't been in the best track very long to be openly considered part of the record (like for times when previous storms are mentioned). ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright, the article is published. I'll give Huko and 1968 PHS a look later on (got to head out now). ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 13:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I can do it. The only problem is that the wind measurements are in 10-min avg, instead of 1-min sustained which the SSHS uses. Do you want the dots all gray, or just use 30mph winds (10-min avg) as a TD? -CWY2190(talkcontributions) 04:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: FT

One or two authors are working on an FT for EPAC Cat. 5's (the one being Miss Madeline), and I'd figure once all pass GA the topic would be nominated. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 12:53, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

It's perfectly fine for you to work on such an FT; I just suggested it when potential featured topics were brought up. That's all I did; by doing that I didn't claim dibs or anything on a future nomination. FWIW, I was considering nominating one other GA to be an FA.
