Please kindly mind:

  • stating a source and licence for the images which you upload. Failing this, the images will swiftly be erased.
  • refrain from adding "npov" tags before discussing the article. Putting this kind of tags on an article without having precise and constructive points to raise can be understood as a cheap way to globally discredit a whole article, something which is frowned upon.

Thank you very much. Rama 13:48, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

table. VVAW

[edit]

Your talk page was illegible because it had a blue background throughout. I removed the background. Can I also ask that you not come into a productive conversation in VVAW and torpedeo it by trying to attack other contributors? Thanks! Hipocrite 14:46, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits and NPOV

[edit]

Please use the "minor edit" only for trivial changes such as spelling or grammatical correction; edits like [1], [2] or [3] cannot be considered to be "minor" edits.

Also, we have a famous policy on Wikipedia known as "NPOV", which you might want to skim through at Wikipedia:NPOV. Basically, we would like to stick to verifiable, measured and factual statements, and avoid judgements of values. The edits above fall quite out of our policy, I fear.

It is quite understandable that, as a new user, you should take some time to get accustomed to our ways, but I would like to warn you that the conjonction of the "minor" tag and the rather strongly connotated nature of your edits might stir some mild irritation among other contributors, so I would be grateful if you could be kind enough to make some efforts to this respect. Thank you very much. Rama 17:36, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please also mind some maners; the talk pages are indeed less formal than the articles themselves, but "pop communists crammed into slums and ghettos" [4]

is really over the edge. Thank you. Rama 17:50, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

George W. Bush

[edit]

You are mistaken... I was not the vandal on that edit. I was trying to resize the unemployment graph in the economy section. Sometimes when two editors are trying to edit at the same time some problems occur. You need to be more careful in your accusations. Anyone who has been around awhile can tell you that I have done good work over at the George W. Bush article. Welcome to Wikipedia. Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 17:50, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome - and a few things

[edit]

Hi I-2-d2. Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your contributions.

I was just looking through your edit history, and thought that you might want to look through Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers. It appears that sometimes some contributions, which you often see as vandalism, are newcomers doing their best to help Wikipedia. Please keep that in mind - that unless they add something rediculous, they are probably just trying to help.

Also, it seems that you are going about different accounts, thinking that they are all the same person. I assure you that the vast majority of users are different people, some trying to add nonsense to Wikipedia, and some trying to do their best. Sometimes edits look like they are from the same person, but there are a lot of people on Wikipedia with different motivations.

Please hesitate the next time you want to place a vandalism warning - especially if the edits are from someone with a difference of opinion, but with the same motivation to help Wikipedia.

Feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Happy editing! -JJLeahy 19:45, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just making sure...

Hi I-2-d2.

This message was sent to you while you were working on the comment box. (By the way, if it's working, good job - I'm also testing it out for you.) I'm posting it again just in case you didn't see it: -JJLeahy 20:58, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense pages

[edit]

I've so far had to delete three pages that you've created in the main article space, all consisting of copies of User talk pages under silly names. Please stop this; it's vandalism, and could lead to you being blocked from editing. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:33, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • sorry about that, as you'll see if you look through my edit history, those were failed attempts at parsing, not intentional vandalism, they were supposed to turn into 'level 2 headers' on my talk page, not their own articles--I-2-d2 20:59, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

I don't know if it is wiki policy to delete user pages, personally I do find it quite offensive. Have a look through this guy's edits as well. His contribution appears mostly limited to insulting hard working editors and inserting POV changes which are quickly reverted as vandalism. I don't know if this is intentionally or just a way of expressing his personal beliefs, so i will give him the benefit of the doubt. It would be nice if he was at least convinced to tone down his user page, this sort of thing just enflames edit wars. --Darkfred Talk to me 23:40, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

are you actually refering to me in the 3rd person on my own talk page? I find that insulting, or are you talking about the non-contributer/re-occuring-vandal-205.whatever? --I-2-d2 23:43, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
My comment is about you, but not aimed towards you, but rather whatever admin responds to the CsD notice, therefore it is written in 3rd person. I would like to point out that 205.whatever is a domain name used by many many decent editors, and admins cannot block the the addresses without blocking valid usernames. I doubt it will ever be blocked, and the most recent spate of vandalism seems to be only the CsD notice, which I doubt is the appropriate way to address his concerns, but I don't know what the policy is. --Darkfred Talk to me 23:52, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Making your work more effective

[edit]

Hey I-2-d2.

I've been watching your contributions for the past few days. I know that a few admins saw your edits and were less than welcoming. First, I'd like to say that I think your viewpoints are important to get out - thanks for your voice. However, I think your method could become more effective.

I've noticed quite a bit of anger on your part when things don't go quite as you like it. If it's not anger, please know that it comes out that way. Now, telling people to stop with vandalism is fine - feel free to place a {{test}} on their user page. I know there's that annoying troll (205......). He's using AOL to dodge you, and is having fun pissing you off. I hate to say it, but just ignore him/her. The messages you put on the talk pages are found by other innocent AOL users, and they get confused and annoyed at Wikipedia - something I'd like to avoid. Just be careful - a lot of edits seem like that troll, but you might be giving some honest person a rude message, instead of giving this troll the genuine pleasure of making you mad.

The fact that anger seems to come from you whenever you're dealing with someone discredits future actions you make. First, when other people see that all your edits are vandalism warnings and reverts, they will probably assume that you have no interest in helping Wikipedia. Don't get me wrong - I think you're here to help wikipedia - but others may quickly dismiss you if you only contribute to talk pages. Help out a little bit - add some original content. What would be even better is if you contribute to a non-political page - a hobby perhaps - if people see you working hard in a way that's not going to raise tempers, people will see that you're definitely not a troll.

Second, please note - I don't know if you're aware - but some people might think you're actually a straw man of a liberal. Some people might think that a liberal wants to make fun of a conservative by pretending to be a conservative, and mock the false stereotypes of a conservative. A liberal would have an advantage of being a straw man, because people will see a straw man conservative and then think that all conservatives:

  • Can not see any point-of-view other than their own.
  • Can not actually contribute to an argument besides yelling at other people who they disagree with.
  • Think their point of view is more moderate than it actually is.
  • Can not reason with a level head and uses emotion to fuel beliefs and actions.

I'm not saying that this describes you at all - what I'm saying is that giving someone the opportunity to think that about all conservatives might harm you and your message in a way you don't intend. I think that a little less blanket anger, a little more explanation about why you think what you do (it's not as obvious as you would hope), and a little more understanding could not only help you out, but help everyone else see your perspective as a good one, even when they might not believe it in it themselves.

I hope you take this to heart (or if you are in fact a straw man, shame on you). I'm looking forward to seeing a reasoned conservative voice that will help make this Wikipedia better. I wish you well with your edits.

Thanks for your help. If you have any questions at all, please leave me a message on my talk page. --JJLeahy 05:53, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to second the above. You have now had at least two days to skim through the policy, and with the rather impressive mastery of templates and other tricky items which you have managed to acquire in such a short time for a newcomer, I am confident that you should have grasped the spirit of most if it by now. Hence, I expect you to adopt a proper behaviour from now on. Thank you very much. Rama 08:01, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not make personal attacks on other contributors. Wikipedia has a policy against personal attacks. Some users may remove personal attacks, and you may be banned from editing. Comment on content, not on the contributor. For further help, see Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Thank you. --Viriditas | Talk 14:06, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

City pics

[edit]

--So where are all your pictures of suburbia for the United States article? Weren’t you going to teach us pop-communist slum-dwellers what “America is all about’? If you’re so proud of being an American, then I wonder why you are so disdainful (and willfully ignorant) about life in American cities? --Jleon 14:13, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
