Ways to improve Phineas Banning Blanchard

[edit]

Hello, III-eilrahc,

Thank you for creating Phineas Banning Blanchard.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Not sure about this, a lot of sources, but a lot of it looks newsy and trivial.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Slatersteven}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Hello @Slatersteven:,

I hope I'm replying correctly, as this is my first time replying here.

I'm not sure how to respond, as I made sure to include plenty of references that I thought were substantial. Is the problem that there are too many references and/or too many from contemporaneous news sources?

When preparing this page, I compared to several other sea captain pages already on Wikipedia for both style and content. And I thought (perhaps incorrectly) that the treatment for this page (length, topics) was appropriate.

Please advise. Thanks.

The issue for me is it all seems to be not all that notable, but I cannot check. He just seems to have been just another sea captain.Slatersteven (talk) 14:11, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Slatersteven:,

I've made a number of changes to the page that I believe address the issue. These changes include adding references and restructuring the page to emphasize Captain Blanchard's notability in the history of merchant sail and his influence on the maritime industry in the mid-20th century.

As part of this work I enlisted the help of the Penobscot Marine Museum, where Captain Blanchard is represented by numerous objects. They were very enthusiastic and helped by providing the portrait, which I've added to his infobox.

Thanks.

hello! Just a heads up that I took Richard Dodge off the list of artists that you had just tweaked. His reputation was as an illustrator. The list is for artists in the fine arts area, as described at the top of the page. I see you added him to a list of illustrators, which is entirely appropriate! Thanks.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:02, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
