In Laura Kina's paintings, there is a lot of information about the mixed race and different cultures. I still remember that there is a painting Okinawa-All American Food, and there is a Japanese slogan on the top of it. So in my point of view, the store is located in a Japanese and American community. So Laura is basically talking about the social status and the people in Hawaii.
