Hello Iazyges,

I wrote Expulsion of Chileans from Bolivia and Peru in 1879, but as English isn't my first language I am unable to bring the English up to the standard appropriate for an encyclopaedia article. I read your offer in Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers#History and think that it would be great when you could do some part of the work. --Keysanger (talk) 12:20, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Iazyges, I've added some comments to Wikipedia:Peer review/Deva Victrix/archive2. Ive focused mainly on content, but the feedback from the FAC back in 2008 was that it could do with some proof reading. I've tightened up some of the wording, but it could probably do with another pass through. Going through this set of exercises created by User:Tony1 helped me think about how to improve my writing. I'm not familiar with your writing style, but the exercises are worth going through for just about everyone. I use some of the lessons I've picked up there in my day-to-day writing. I was particularly bad at the noun +ing sentences.

My thoughts on the Deva article boil down to: let's take a closer look at the volume edited by Carrington and see if there's more that should be included.

Once that's done, we can be happy that the article covers all the main points. If you think it's worthwhile I could contact the Chester Archaeological Society and see if there are any important elements not currently covered. Deva is one of their main areas of concern, so they would be in a good position to comment if you want that kind of feedback.

In general, when preparing a Featured Article making sure you are using the right sources is essential. You need to ensure that you are using the best quality most up-to-date sources. That doesn't mean you can't use old sources, but you need to make sure that any significant research is woven into the article. Once you have those sources, you can start writing the article. Reading academic reviews can help you work out how important a particular source is; Jstor is good for finding those. It is easier to start a complete rewrite than to try to backwards engineer someone else's sources. The trick is to let the sources shape the article, rather than let the article dictate which sources are used.

In the case of the Deva article, it was reasonably well sourced. If I was coming across it for the first time and wanted to improve it to FA level, the process would be pretty much as outlined above. Work out what the key sources are, plan out the structure of the article, start writing and making sure everything is sourced. Nev1 (talk) 21:55, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nev1: do you think that contacting the CAS would help, if so do it. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 22:45, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dahuting Tomb murals, Chinese Eastern Han period (25-220 AD)

[edit]

I just uploaded all of these to Wikimedia! And have used them in several articles thus far.

The Dahuting Tomb (Chinese: 打虎亭汉墓, Pinyin: Dahuting Han mu) of the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD), located in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China, was excavated in 1960-1961 and contains vault-arched burial chambers decorated with murals showing scenes of daily life, with banquet scenes, dancers with musicians playing, court women flaunting their hairstyles, war chariots and cavalry riding to battle, mythological scenes with creatures such as dragons, etc. Pericles of AthensTalk 14:18, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to one of the woman in the first row, is that a glass cup she's holding? That's interesting, considering how prized Roman glass was in Han China at the time, considered a foreign luxury item. Pericles of AthensTalk 14:18, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, I most certainly did not take them myself, because I don't have the time or inclination to be visiting the inside of ancient Chinese tombs! For that matter, I don't think that I'd be allowed to do that, unless I was an authorized archaeologist or art historian. I found them on various places around the web and, thanks to the rule of flat 2-dimensional ancient art belonging to the public domain, no one has a valid copyright claim to any of these images (thankfully). It would be different if they were 3-dimensional sculptures, though. In either case, thanks for the input! It's rather ambiguous. I'd need the advice of a professional art historian. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to List of Roman client Queens, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Interview for the November Bugle

[edit]

Hi Iazyages, every so often the editors of the Milhist newsletter, the Bugle, run an interview with members of the project. For the November 2016 issue, we'd like to present a chat with the first-time coordinators from the September elections. We'd love you to participate -- the interview page is here. We always like to get the Bugle out by the 7th of the month, so allowing for some tidy-up before despatch, if you could complete your answers within two weeks, i.e. around 2nd November, that'd be great. Developments since your last mediation in the Summer 2016.

[edit]

Hello dear mediator Iazyges, how have you been? Remember that OR/SYNTH case between me and the user DevilWearsBrioni in which you have volunteered to be our Mediator, back in Summer of that year? Well, I wanted to inform you now that there have been some unfortunate developments since then. As you may know already, I was about to fill an Arbitration Enforcement report against the user DevilWearsBrioni after your Mediation had concluded that his OR/SYNTH claims are invalid and after his disruption had resumed. However, for a number of good-faith reasons (including reluctance to initiate such a harsh step against fellow editor, and also Administrator Robert McClenon's wise advises that better I exhaust all possible mediation/dispute resolution procedures first before going on with such a harsh step (ban) against fellow user DevilWearsBrioni), I decided to drop the AE report and give that user a last chance to remedy himself. Then, in Octomber 2016, after new incidents of disruptive edits by DevilWearsBrioni occured on the Expulsion of Cham Albanians article, Robert McClenon stepped in and called for a new Mediation (as part his the efforts to overcome the deadlock caused by DevilWearsBrioni and his constant OR/SYNTH claims). This time, it was the Administrator Anthony Appleyard who volunteered and agreed to mediate, at: [1]. However, as expected, Mediator Anthony Appleyard too concluded, much like you, that the OR/SYNTH case couldn't be proven, and it was evident that the user DevilWearsBrioni couldn't be reasoned with.

Under the light of all these developments, Mediator Anthony Appleyard has brought yesterday the case to the ANI for consultation, here: [2], where he proposed, much like you, that sanctions should be imposed on user DevilWearsBrioni. Given his negative record of constant disruptions, dismiss of all warnings, repeated violations of Wikipedia's rules, and the outcomes of all Mediations, I am no longer surprised. To be honest, I am relieved. I am glad the OR/SYNTH dispute is now ending the one or the other way, because this case really has been stretched too much and for so long. I admit the case was the source of great stress (I don't think heated debates are beneficial for Wikipedia) and it had put me into my nerves. I came here just to inform you about the developments and to thank both you and Robert McClenon for their kind efforts to resolve this notorious OR/SYNTH case in the best possible way. In fact, I am very grateful that you both didn't ignore the need for mediation even when I myself was not enthusiast to dive myself from one mediation straight to another. When this is over, I will secede temporarily from Wikipedia, to rest a bit. If there is anything I can do and help, please do not hesitate to ask. And have a good day. -- SILENTRESIDENT 09:15, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Iazyges, but threaded comments are not allowed, it seems. Well, for your convenience, I have restored your reply here, as well as my answer:
"I believe I gave him a warning on the Cham page, and mentioned the warnings and the mediators ability to request sanctions in the closing of the DRN page."
and my reply to you, before they remove it, was:
"Indeed you did, in July, you have warned him but, as you can see, he ignored you: [3]. Your warnings had absolutely no effect on him and this is why I had to contact Robert again and see what can be done with this disruptive editor."
This is why I strongly believe that this editor should not be given more warnings as Robert has suggested, since they do nothing and the disruptions do not end. -- SILENTRESIDENT 17:40, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, for everyone's convenience, Iazyges, please consider re-posting your removed reply, this time under your own comments section in the AE (under "Statement by Iazyges"), so people can find your reply easier and not be confused. -- SILENTRESIDENT 17:45, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello Iazyges. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MusikAnimal talk 23:33, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
