Perhaps split topic from Crisis of the Roman Republic to:

The historiographical theories are relatively important, however, and I would prefer to keep them with the main article. Omitting them is like talking about the First world war without understanding why there was a First world war. Ifly6 (talk) 06:08, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous notes[edit]

Some misc notes:

  • I don't like the current set up with a synopsis at the front. It really messes with the article to talk about the details, even in the condensed form that I take from Beard's condensed volume.
  • The article ought, I think, to be about why the crisis of the republic happened. You can learn about all the details you want, down to which (poorly-sourced) faction fought some other (poorly-sourced) faction with so-and-so (poorly-sourced) leaders at some place.
  • Why the republic collapsed is the core. Details like "Bibulus was hit with manure when he attended a contio where he wanted to oppose Caesar's land reform bill" are peripheral.
