I have deleted Image:EmileNelligan.JPG, from which you removed the no source tag without specifying a source. I'm sure you meant well, but I'd like to point out that a drawing does not necessarily have to have been made during the lifetime of its subject, so there's no way to know the copyright status of that image without knowing its source. We require a source for all images, regardless of copyright status. As it happens, that image was uploaded by indefinitely blocked user JillandJack, who is a reincarnation of User:DW, a user hard-banned multiple times under different usernames (see those two user pages for details). I encourage you to find a proper illustration for Émile Nelligan, but it will be better for the article itself if the image doesn't have that username attached to it. Thanks. Natalie Barney's hat

I have a .jpg of a painting, "Natalie in Fur Cape", 1905 by Alice Pike Barney, in which she is wearing a similarly ludicrous hat, but is slightly happier. It might make a nice addition to the article, but I'm not sure: is a 1905 painting pretty clearly in the public domain? If so, I could upload it and you could see if you like it. I also have a rather nice, though faded, photo (.gif) of her in her older days, in no hat and looking rather impish in an embroidered robe, but I suspect that the copyright on that is still valid. - Nunh-huh 23:29, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Mohammed's sexual orientation

Can you or I remove the deleted page tag? I say this for a few reasons... it was never recreated so I don't see a need for it having that... there is also no consensus that an article about Muhammad's sexual orientation can't be created... granted I think it's a subject that might be impossible to do well and neutrally... but, there's no real consensus that we can ban its recreation... there may be some scholarly discussion of it that I am not privvy to. Ihcoyc, thanks for your lovely comments at the mediation page. The controversy has preceded me and will outlast me. You know why? Because there's something objectively wrong with the title. I'm not the only one who recognizes that. I've been making my case based on the naming conventions and the objective criteria that they set out. You, on the other hand, are blatantly appealing to a "moral right" to the name "Catholic Church" -- and that type of subjective argumentation is out of bounds in a naming conflict. I didn't make the rules, but if we follow them for Church of Christ, there is no reason not to follow them for Catholic Church -- because the most common usage of that term, "Catholic Church", refers to that Church of which the Pope is head.

I am amused by your conspiracy theory and your unwillingness to assume good faith on the part of Catholics. I am a papist, and I will always be one. There is no reason for us to run away from the idea of the Pope; we love the successor of Peter and the Vicar of Christ on earth. The whole idea of being Catholic is that you are in communion with the Pope. If you want to create an article called papist Church or papal Church or popery or popish Church, and redirect it to Catholic Church, that is more than fine by me.

But the simple, objective facts of the matter are:

1. the most common usage of the term "Catholic Church" refers to that Church of which the Pope is head.
2. the most common way to refer to that Church of which the Pope is head is to say, "Catholic Church".
3. the Church of which the Pope is head claims that very title ("Catholic Church") for itself.
4. the title "Roman Catholic Church" is inaccurate insofar as it refers to a distinct particular Church within the universal Catholic Church, not the worldwide and visible Catholic Church of which the Pope is head. Not all Catholics in union with the Pope are "Roman" Catholics!
5. we've dealt with these possible "ambiguities" before, and we settled them the exact way I am asking us to settle them. (Cf. Church of Christ, United Church of Christ, Church of Christ (disambiguation), International Churches of Christ, etc.)

We have every reason to move Roman Catholic Church to Catholic Church. If you are unwilling to play by the same rules for the Catholics as applied to every other religious group's article, then it is you with the massive POV problem, not me. --Hyphen5 15:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I have been compiling a list of folklore stubs and articles to be written up, and will be actually organizing some folklorists to work on this project and develop a wiki project:folklore next week. Couthutlaugh

Hi! I came across the word couthutlaugh in Outlaw and was intrigued enough to Google it -- finding precisely zero references (that were not copies of the Wikipedia article). Assuming it was completely spurious, I boldly removed it (with a request that a citation be given if it is readded); upon further investigation, however, I discovered that the word was referred to in the article as you originally wrote it. That changed matters; obviously you would not have introduced a spurious word intentionally. I therefore checked my OED and found an entry (with the spelling couthutlaughe). Now, the term, while real, is clearly exceedingly obscure -- it is apparently almost entirely confined to legal dictionaries. I feel that, if it is to stand in the outlaw article, it should be marked as such (and appropriately cited); what do you think? Kiscica 23:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I uploaded the Holy Grail image several years ago to Wikipedia. The site the file is from was noted on the upload page:

The file I put on Wikipedia is basically the same image, brightened and made somewhat smaller.

At least in the USA, the file is public domain. My understanding is that the artist died sometime in the 1880s. Even the longest copyright periods (100 years after the death of the creator) would put that file firmly in the public domain. In the USA, at any rate, it shouldn't be necessary to seek the permission of the owner of the original to use the image, because nobody has a right to exclude anyone else from using the image any more. I don't know about the law of other jurisdictions, which may be quaint and curious and full of ironic twists.

I have absolutely no idea how you'd get in touch with Andrew Lloyd Webber. His agent or publicist might be a start. Don't know who they are either. - Smerdis of Tlön 13:40, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I didn't read the complete article, my i can suggest the following two SF-movies. They where both produced around 1980 and relay an alternative social future, if you take out the killing, action etc. With is alike the (super) high modernism:

Kurdish celebration of Newroz

Based on skimming both articles, the Kurdish version of the holiday seems significant enough to warrant a separate article. The article is referenced, albeit mostly with external links that probably ought to be turned into endnotes. Were the Kurdish section merged, it would either dominate the head article, or information would be lost. From Kurdish celebration of Newroz

I just want to clarify my reasonings. Bear with me.

Firstly, I am not proposing the information to be lost. Just seperated.

The holiday Newroz had been celebrated for forever (according to article). Kurds just like rest of the local peoples had been celebrating this and still do. Any diagreements with this?

I think it is biased to suggest the political rallys are a part of kurdish culture which wouldt come with the assumption that every Kurd supports the PKK (these "political rallys" often end up bing a PKK suprot rally orhganised by certain Kurdish political parties). Any diagreements with this?

The Newroz celebrations are hardly unique to the kurds (as per Norouz) and the politics stuff is hardly uneque to the spring holiday (such incidents happen on other social gatherings such as on the workers day and etc). That is why an article explaining the political aspect should be kept diferent. Any diagreements with this?

So, all I am proposing is spliting political stuff and holiday stuff.

Just a brief response. When a page is on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, what is at issue is whether the page is so worthless as to be unworthy of an encyclopedia, and ought to be entirely removed. Vanity pages, crank theories, confused gibberish, and deliberate vandalism are the chief offenders.

Your concerns about what should be at the head page of Norouz and what should be at this one don't fit any of the usual categories. This is the sort of thing that customarily is addressed at one or the other articles' talk pages. Likewise, if the page is wrong about the extent or significance of the politicization of the holiday among Kurds, this too is something that belongs on the talk page; flag it for neutrality and accuracy if need be.

I have no opinion on any of these issues, and no real basis to form one. I read the article on Kurdish celebrations, and it seemed to make sense and contain information that, if accurate, should be kept somewhere. And similarly, since it contained information about songs associated with the celebration by Kurds, it seemed to have enough independent data to no longer qualify as a POV fork, even if it once did.

No, afd is a concensus gathering process. I am NOT trying to get anything deleted,<just tying to reorganize the mess. See talk page of Kurdistan why talk pages are practıcaly useless (constant endless rants). The idea is to talk the opponent to death (forumer logic) I believe.

I really feel article should be topic spesific rather than ethnicity spesific. History can be its main article for instance. Political stuff should go to an article about political stuff rather than about the spring holiday.

Perhaps you can change your vote from keep to move/rename etc?

Sure - that's "Through Struggles to the Greatest Good of the Citizens" (or, "the greatest civic good"). It's a fairly obvious play on the traditional tag per ardua ad astra, "through struggles to the stars." - Smerdis of Tlön 14:46, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I found the air force motto and tried to "translate" the motto myself (I know virtually nothing of Latin, although I wish I did—it's very interesting), coming up with something somewhat similar, although not quite right: "through struggle to the best society". Hi. You seem to be an authority on Latin, so you seem the right person to ask. In Latin poetry, are the words chosen so the verses follow the determined sequence of long and short syllables, or are the words pronounced contrary to their usual pronunciation, if necessary, in accordance with the metre? Permissions for an image

Image:Mobiuslweb sm.jpg is an autism rights movement logo. Its creator (Oddizms) uses it to sell things on cafepress. She says "You may use it on a web page or on your personal stationary, or use it as an inspiration for your own creation, just don't take my design and sell stuff with it on it, right? And don't put it on offensive stuff." I want it to illustrate Autism rights movement and also my userboxes. Pls read and think twice

Dear Sir, I am Dr. Mohammad Samir Hossain from Bangladesh. I was and still am too poor like my country. I was desperately searching for support for my research and seeing my desperate wish some educators from the so called non-accreditated university Bircham International University became too kind to buy me books and appove me 100% fund. I had to beg to many but got only one. So I jumped on my dream topic - Philosophy of Death and Adjustment and start working on the Impact of different philosophies on different bangladeshi people. I did it because in the science of death such research was never conducted, but if I can do or at least raise some point for it, may be some richer and more qualified people will find their interest in it and may proceed. My back ground thought was that remedy to many mental health problem might come out from this new branch. But who would raise me with it? Cause I did not have money even to buy papers or my daily food, let alone doing vast correspondences or take help from any accreditated university. Though fortunately I enrolled at Harvard Medical School with full waiver, but that was too small period for me to do any good job. Finally I thought may be Elisabeth kubler-Ross herself might find interest in it and togather we will proceed. But my luck did not support me, cause I found the news of her funeral on the very day I found her organization's web site. So temporarily my research work stopped upto which Bircham International University helped me. So till now I dream of proceeding more on the research with supports of knowledge from all over the world, and I do not even have a web site to introduce my thoughts. So the only light of hope became this free encyclopedia, and for reference I only had Bircham International University web site. So I desperately tried to promote the introduction of the university in this encyclopedia so that the research reference gets its better base. I know my letter is big and annoying, but sometimes we do annoying things for something better, and please believe me I tried to promote Bircham International University or any other that you all object, just to facilitate the birth of a new branch of a science. Please help me in every way, you do not need to ask me anything for editing or changing. If you all fail to help in a rational manner, I do not mind and will take it as a fate. I will see my reply through the condition of the article "Philosophy of Death and Adjustment". I will love to see this baby of mine alive, but if dead, I will follow the branch of science that I am holding on.
