Solarity confinement and race[edit]

Hello, I was interested to see that a topic you set for your students covered solitary confinement and isolation as affected by race. I have been interested in the wider global ramifications of this, and I asked the following on the student's user talk page:

Hi, have you considered the wider global context of isolation used as punishment for undesirable behavior?

I've previously seen an account where a child was confined to one of these "consequence rooms" for their having said thank you for being given their school lunch -- in that particular school, children were not permitted to speak to catering staff (even to say thank you), and therefore must be punished.

It is well worth examining the proportion of children placed in isolation rooms who belong to ethnic minorities, or are differently able. MPS1992 (talk) 00:58, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Although this global context is obviously out of scope for this particular assignment as worded, I think it might be interesting to consider this and similar context in future assignments. MPS1992 (talk) 01:15, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
