Hello Ilia Anufriev. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Central Asia Game Show, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Ilia Anufriev. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Ilia Anufriev|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:37, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, DoubleGrazing!
I would like to clarify that I have no financial interest in this publication. The Central Asia Game Show is not a commercial project, and I am directly involved in it as its founder. The primary mission of the Central Asia Game Show is to develop the GameDev industry in Central Asia. This mission is not connected to commercial gain; the event is not profit-driven and is a private initiative. All edits and preparations for the article are being done without any payment, fees, or sponsorship, and there is no beneficiary behind this article.
The Central Asia Game Show is one of the key networking events in the region for the GameDev industry, and the verification of such events is crucial for the globalization of CAGS initiatives and the Central Asian region within the global IT industry. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 07:54, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure, although not 100% certain, that this would still come under our paid-editing rules. However, if you prefer, you may be able to disclose instead a more general conflict of interest (COI). I will post a separate message on that. Please make sure you make either disclosure at your first opportunity, as otherwise you risk getting blocked. Thank you, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I do not have any commercial interest either in the publication or in the CAGS project. However, I agree with the strict rules of your community and appreciate your work in maintaining information integrity on Wikipedia. I am happy to provide any necessary information to prove the absence of financial motives in this article. I am willing to provide the required documents or undergo verification.
I use my corporate email in my profile, and my status is that of an Individual Entrepreneur. I am directly involved in the project as its founder. The information provided in the article is verified by major media outlets. I am using publicly available information that has been published over the last six years. Hi Teahouse!
I'm truly just a beginner editor, and I'll try to find some help on the forum. I suspected that creating an article for Wikipedia might be a long and challenging process, so I’m committed to regularly dedicating time to proving the importance of developing the GameDev industry in Central Asia. Thank you for your recommendations—I'm genuinely disappointed that my version of the article was declined. I hope I can find some supportive editors in the community who can assist me in getting this article published. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:05, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is what you need to do, in a nutshell:
  1. Find a few (3-5) sources that meet the WP:GNG standard, namely are secondary sources (newspapers, magazines, TV and radio programmes, etc.) that are reliable and entirely independent of the subject and of each other, and have provided significant coverage of the subject.
  2. Summarise (in your own words, but without putting any 'spin' or embellishment on things) what they have said.
  3. Cite each source against the information it has provided.
This gives you the appropriate content, required referencing, and evidence of notability all in one go.
You may then supplement this content with information from primary sources such as the event's website, but this must purely factual, non-contentious information, and in any case must be kept to a minimum.
HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:18, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the recommendations, DoubleGrazing. Yes, I used materials from government Information Agencies as sources in my article, as they are accredited and reliable. I will explore the possibility of adding quotes from published articles, as this might help me achieve the necessary outcome. Thank you for your guidance and support. May I start making edits to the draft again?
Best regards, Ilya Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:29, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Government sources are usually primary, and cannot therefore be used to establish notability.
You may continue editing after you have made the COI disclosure as instructed in the thread below. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:35, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll try to find additional sources that meet European standards. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:48, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
DoubleGrazing, thank you for your advice. However, there is a slight shortage of English-language sources, as other languages like Russian and Kyrgyz are also used in Central Asia. Can I use sources in other languages for an English article, or will that cause any issues? Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:59, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sources don't have to be in English, non-English sources are perfectly okay, as long as they otherwise meet the requirements in terms of reliability etc. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:03, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, then I can add better sources and cite them. Thank you! Ilia Anufriev (talk) 09:23, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Ilia Anufriev. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the recommendations. This event has no conflicts or competitors in the region. I am publishing the article without any financial compensation, and I appreciate your advice. However, I am unsure how I can provide the necessary information to confirm the absence of any vested interests in publishing this event page. My goal is to document the chronology and importance of this event, and there is no financial gain involved for me personally. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:34, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have a conflict of interest because you have an external ('real-life') relationship with the subject. Whether you stand to gain financially or not doesn't matter. If I were to write about my mother, I wouldn't expect to be paid for that, but I would still have a clear conflict of interest. Please make the disclosure now, to avoid getting blocked. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:38, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please excuse me, yes, I am directly involved with the CAGS project as I am its organizer. This event is also personally funded by me, and I am mentioned in the article as the founder of this event. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 08:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. You need to formally disclose that using a template placed on your user page (and/or on the talk page of the draft/article to which your COI relates). See instructions above, in the third bullet point beginning with 'disclose'. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:05, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear DoubleGrazing, may I ask for your help in handling the COI process? I'm not an experienced Wikipedia user or editor, and I would greatly appreciate your assistance. I'll be updating the sources for CAGS tomorrow. I'm concerned that I might have made critical mistakes due to my lack of understanding of some of the more complex aspects of article formatting. I would be very grateful for your help. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 09:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the COI disclosure for you on your user page User:Ilia Anufriev (assuming that'w what you were asking me to do? If not, then it can be reverted.) HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:27, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear DoubleGrazing,
If I understand correctly, since I am involved with the CAGS project, my profile should have the COI (Conflict of Interest) tag for publishing this article. Therefore, I think we should keep it. Can I then proceed to edit the article and resubmit it for review? Ilia Anufriev (talk) 09:33, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear DoubleGrazing,
I would also appreciate any recommendations you might have for publishing the article about CAGS. I would be happy to have this article published under another name. Since I am merely the primary source of the event as its organizer, I can provide the canonical information as the primary source. I have no objections to having the article edited and supplemented based on open data. The primary importance of the article is to verify the event and its chronology to avoid misinformation or inaccuracies about the event. Given that the main mission of the conference is to advance the GameDev industry in Central Asia, I am not pursuing self-promotion here. My goal is to ensure accurate information about the event and its significance for the region and the GameDev industry. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 09:37, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A fundamental requirement for any article to be published in Wikipedia is that the subject must be notable. This means that other sources have previously published coverage of the subject; Wikipedia's job is merely to summarise such coverage in an encyclopaedic format. This coverage must include multiple sources that are secondary and independent of the subject, as described in the WP:GNG notability guideline. If your article is to come about, the process must start by identifying sufficient sources which can be thus summarised. This principle applies regardless of who is to write the article, there is no magic workaround to get over that. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DoubleGrazing, Thank you for your recommendations. I've added more sources to present different perspectives on the event. I would appreciate your feedback on the work I've done and any new suggestions you might have. Thanks for your help. Ilia Anufriev (talk) 01:29, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
