Thanks for this illustration! Very clear and vivid. I wonder if it might not also be helpful to show some other interesting cases. One would be two "clouds" of data, one in the lower-left quadrant, the other in the upper-right. Others would be two parallel lines, y=x and y=x+1 and two non-parallel lines, y=x and y=1-x.
