Regarding your questions[edit]

Question No.1: I need a clarification about copyright. If I scan an image myself (for example a character or a comic book cover) and upload it, which copyright tag do I use and how do I state the source formally? Question No.2: Is it allowed to use images from the official Marvel.com website (especially comic book covers for adding them to incomplete lists) and how do I source these images? Question No. 3: Is there an infobox available for comic books?

  1. For an actual physical comic book cover, use {{Comiccover}}. If it is one of the promotional digital images Marvel and DC release, with no logo or text on, use {{Promocomic}}. For interior art use either {{Comicpanel}} or {{Comicscene}} depending on whether it's a single panel or a sequence of panels. To state the source formally there's some guidance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/copyright:
    • Physical source of the scan, i.e. if sourced from a web-site the actual paper source, Awesome Super Duper Comixxxxxx #874 (June, 1942), on page 39.
      • Note: Not all comics have numbered pages, therefore please count only the story pages - i.e. exclude the covers, any ad pages, letter pages etc.
    • The source of the scan - if scanned in by uploader, say so; otherwise give link to the website.
    • The resolution of the image.
    • Copyright information of the owner.
    • The artists (and writers for interior sourced images) of the image in question.
    • A fair use rationale.
  2. You can add images from Marvel.com as long as you attribute as above, but we don't allow images purely for decoration, it needs to be illustrating a point critically discussed within the article. There's no consensus on how that works with lists at the moment, I think. See3 Wikipedia:Fair use/Fair use images in lists.
  3. We have the {{Supercbbox}}, I believe that's for comic book titles, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/templates for more details. Hope that all helps. Steve block Talk 20:39, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, this was very helpful, thank you for adding the most important tags and links. Don't worry, before doing some major edits, I will study the Comcis project guidelines and the current discussions to get an overview. I just needed some information to begin with - and you supplied me with these information by answering my three most urgent questions :) Thanks again, Incredible Nightcrawler 22:08, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
